Hmm... I wish there are other alternatives to SBSettings. Did some Google-ing, and most list SBSettings as a battery eater due to its nature - running in the background.

edit: Didn't want to jailbreak and install SBSettings, so I did the easiest thing: call up Maxis and disable 3G/EDGE/GPRS for my line. Hoping for the best, in two hours' time.

am not sure how battery can last w/o JB as mine is a locked set hence i'll need to JB out of the box in order to unlock. but been using my i3G for a year now and i don't actually think having SBSettings actually decrease your standby time.

normal usage can actually last me up to 2 days max. (minimal gaming + browsing + iPod, more on SMS/calls)

battery life has been slighly worse lately only due to the reason that i have ProSwitcher installed.

telling this from my point of view/experience.

Happy New Year, buddy! Well, I had a horrible experience last week when I JB'ed and installed SBSettings to disable EDGE. Idling at 9x% at about 2am and woke up at 9am to see only 7x% left. Rebooted the phone after JB + SBSettings, switched off WiFi, SSH, EDGE, 3G, Email fetch, Location settings, etc. before I left it idle. And for some reason, True North option on Compass doesn't work after JB.

Perhaps it only happened to me, glad to hear that yours is doing better. smile.gif

IMO, background processes actually consumes more battery rather than SBSettings itself. since 3GS is reported to have higher battery capacity i assume it should able to perform better in terms of battery life than i3G.

well in my case, i did switched off SSH (a must, main culprit for weak battery life), WiFi, 3G, EDGE, Push, Location services in order to achieve optimum battery life on my phone.

anyway, our discussions seem to be a lil off-topic since it's a data usage thread. biggrin.gif

oh ya happy new year to you and the rest of the iPhone community too! smile.gif

i already installed the disable-egde-3g but still doesn't work.
It was working few days ago??? can anyone help me??

happy new year..... smile.gif

All we've heard is that Maxis does not require cprrect APN settings to connect to EDGE/GPRS, DiGi and Celcom still requires correct APN settings to work. So yes, switching to DiGi prepaid will work.

If maxis is capable in doing this, dont think this will b a barrier to the other SP in doing this as well, the only reason others SP is not applying this might becoz iphone is maxis official device tongue.gif

hey guys, don't know if u all know this already
just wanted to add this here just incase!
lol even with SBsettings and the iphone settings, i notice GPRS is still active
what i did was i went to iphonenodata.com and installed a profile which messes up ure APN if im not mistaken... and i've tried it with safari and weather. 2.0kb sent. 0 received. if u wanna use back ure 3G, u gotta just uninstall the profile

if people already know this, lol sorry for the double info
just wanna help out smile.gif

the 3G icon will be there but it does not mean it is enabled. biggrin.gif

im on digi 3G now and all i need to do is change the APN to blank, and no data will be transferred.

I'm on 3.1.2 as well. But when I disable 3G and also change the APN, all 3G/Edge/GPRS connections will be disabled (no way for me to get online).

But mine could be okay because I'm on Digi.

IIANM, like what people said earlier, the Maxis APN settings are hard-coded into Maxis iPhones? The newer ones at least...

lol good question mate. i didnt check b4 this. i just sent an mms to my sis phone.
it works smile.gif
so yea, mms works while GPRS 3G EDGE semua tarak
if u wanna use 3G, all u gotta do is go to settings>general> profile (new)
currently u wont have "profile", once u install iphonenodata.com then u will have one smile.gif
