The best option so far is combination of fake apn + JBed install SBSettings then disabled both 3G and EDGE using that.


Like you my fake apn not working and i have to resort to jail break. 100% confirmed block.

I've JBed, blocked 3G/EDGE with SBSETTINGS, used FakeAPN just to be sure, now monitoring like crazy.

So how does Version 5.0 Maxis differ from 4.0? Where do you get your info?

3G data usage unblockable issue only happrns on maxis? Will switching to Digi solves this stupid 3G data charges issue?

could be when you use wifi and the wifi signal is weak, it use cellular data ?

i myself not so sure about the version thingy but if you read the pinned thread, the fake APN only works with maxis 4.0, not 5.0 (setting>general>abt) and in 3.0 firmware. since some has upgraded to 3.1.2 and version no longer 4.0, so APN stuff not working d is not a surprise , as for differences, no diea, haha

Did you guys tried to re-install Fake APN? My thinking is since maxis upgrade from 4.0 to 5.0, it might overwrite the Fake APN setting.

I dont think this is the case, as i was alr on maxis 5.0 when i got my iphone, installed it n works previously, just that currently it stops working, just like everybody does

I already installed those fake APN thingy when i got my iphone and it works all the while until the month of OCT.

But i already put a full stop for all 3G, GPRS and edge by calling maxis.

Wow, after finished read most of the comments here, I've started to scare and doubt about whether I should get a iPhone or not?

I'm planing to sign the RM50 iData plan, and I think I won't heavy use in internet. Maybe just facebook and download some apps.

Because I saw a lot of complains about the data usage exceeded problems. And the iPhone will auto connect to Internet by using 3G even you're not online-ing?? Even connect to internet by using WiFi will get charge too??

So anyone can please give me some suggestions? I should get it or not? or I should just go and get a iPod Touch which does not has 3G connection >.<....

if u planned to get an iData plan, then u do not have to worry anything of the mentioned issue, 500MB is way enug for ur usage as stated.

Reporting in from Sabah again. My fakeAPN settings re still working to block data. Maybe Sabah is slower in implementation? I might be going back to JB next week. Will report back again if the fakeAPN is working in JB or not.

i am on the iValue1 plan, which gives me 500mb of data which in my experience previously with another provider is MORE THAN ENOUGH.

However, reading this thread gives me the idea that with Maxis, they are able to continuously leech your data on GPRS, EDGE and 3G...

im on 250MB idata 1 olso enuf for FB n web surfin...

it means they not yet block your 3G ?

if they charge you on data means you are still accesing their data services

im using maxis prepaid and yesterday found out all my credit gone!!!
i already installed the disable-egde-3g but still doesn't work.

fakeAPN doesn't work for me. I still can get a data IP, but luckily SB Settings allows me to block 3G/EDGE until I want to use them.

If you're using prepaid, just get any other prepaid pack. I tested the u Mobile RM 20 300mb prepaid plan, after 2 weeks i only used 25mb. No need to block any EDGE or 3G settings. Plus you can check your usage by *118#

Hmm... as mentioned on the other thread, fakeAPN doesn't seem to work for me; will test it more when I get back to KL. Am in SG right now
