last time when i first buy iphone3gs without contract, after 2 day i feel tak betul, iphone simply data roaming this n that, ppl simply press my phone then charge again then i check at my data usage around 10mb for 2 day ready then i straight away call 123 to close my internet connection. in that call she promised. after 1month my bill come n charge me rm250 for internet connection i was like f... then call 123 again n argue with them.
me: hey. i already cut the internet connection how come u still charge me rm250?
cs:hmm...about this cases did u still using ur iphone to browse web or dl anything?
me: of course, but all the while i was using wifi connection.
cs: maybe the wifi drop then start using 3g connection.
me: huh i not going to pay even single cent of that, did ur system show that i already call up for cut or close my internet connection? cause i already know the problem is there.
cs: ya, we recei ur call at XXdate that time u only request us to close 3g connection.
me: huh, just explain me what is 3g connection?
cs: 3g connection is just a faster way to get into ur browser. u only request us to cut 3g connection.
me: i can't endure anymore, n i talk loud to them. please listen back to the call since there is recorder, i already said i want cut all the internet connection to avoid maxis charge me kao kao n i double or triple confirm is it i cannot connect to the internet since u cut me?
cs: yes. alright. (that time)
cs: about this ok. i will send report to my manager n will give u feedback in 7 working days.
me: okay.

after 2week not even maxis customer service call me.
n that time i call 123 again n ask them how how how?
there tell me still processing. i say ok since u like to take so long time to process then pls dont cut my line due to u need so many to process n i dont know how to make payment n i also need to process to make payment. the cs: only diam awhile. then ask me to hold for while.
i hold the phone around 5min, then the cs said. Mr. my manager promise will deduct the rm250 from ur phone bill. so u just need to make payment without the rm250. n i wanna inform u 2more days we will cut ur line if u didnt make payment. after that i make payment without the rm250 but then i check at *100*7*1*1# but still havent deduct. after 2 weeks time i call n f kao kao then finally there deduct from system.

i only can advise u guys just f them kao kao if u think u r right.
because we r the consumer. ^ ^
sorry for my poor english.

I've mentioned this before but no one paid attention. Actually, a lot of people mentioned it. All my friends experienced it. We all changed to DiGi. No problems thus far..except lousy coverage. My prior experience with Maxis before I switched to DiGi in 2008 are as below:

1. Maxis charge even though you use WiFi and did not turn of cellular data. That time, there is no way to turn off cellular data easily like changing APN or Switching on/off button on iOS 4.x. You have to download a crack operator system to unlock APN. Seems like this is still happening.

2. Maxis charge even though you did not meet your monthly quota because the quota is only for 3G data, but when the connections drop to Edge or GPRS, they would charge. This has probably been rectified after Maxis officially brought in iPhone. My iPhone 3G was from Australia and this was my experience prior to changing to DiGi. Not sure if it still happens.

My last conversation with Maxis Customer Support in 2008 ended like this:

CS: Sorry, there is no way to fix the Wifi or Edge issue at the moment.
Me: Why is that? You are charging me for options that I did not asked for, and I cannot turn off. It's as if you guys are r*ping me.
CS: Sorry, it is beyond my scope and there are no options for us to help out as well.
Me: So, the only way to fix this is to switch to another operator?
CS: (silence)
Me: (hang up)

I agree on this! I think as long as the mobile data is turned on, Maxis will start counting the mobile data usage. They don care whether u r using WIFI or 3g. shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

to make it simple...
10kb = RM0.05
1mb = 1024kb/10kb x rm0.05 =rm5.12 just for 1mb data
if you over 300mb data = 300 x RM5.12 = RM1536....
if they not limit u @ RM250 ..u die more fast...
u wan anywhere also run msn ..even on road ....
24hour update ur fb ...this is what u have to pay ..unless u switch to unlimited lol..

The problem is more to the unfair practice of Maxis. It's simple to make a calculation but how do you make 1 without an input?

Do you dare to fill up the petrol with your eye closed and if you over what you pay for than you will be charged 100 times than original price.

Maxis should provide a tools for user to keep track data usage. Digi did this even there don't charges for additional usage.

OR Maxis should stop the data access after finish the bundled quota unless user wanna continue (request trough SMS or USSD). But I don't think they will allow this..

As for me, if I ever got the bill shock I will report to Mahkamah Pengguna and ask them to cancel my contract with Maxis (because of the unfair practice) and I gladly paid back the original RRP price of the phone and move to DIGI or Celcom or even UMobile.

no, you as a customer should stop using Maxis. it was in your contract. why did you sign it? I've known about this practice since March last year, when Maxis first introduced iPhone 3G.
I advised *all* my customers to either use data sparingly, or sign up an 3GB plan.

YOU are the one with the problem, you can't afford Maxis' rates. change your usage or change provider. don't expect Maxis to change, cos they got at least 10 customers who pay gladly, compared to 1 cheap fella who wants data n dun want to pay and signs contract blindly.

@boblp which rate are you referring to? the phone price? yeah, Apple controls that pretty well. IINM, Apple even has a say as to the iPhone plans by each carrier ... Digi n & Maxis for now.

I'm not sure why Maxis decided to have overage charges... but even after lots of complaining n yelling from customers, they are keeping it.

Digi took a big chance and allows its iPhone customers 700kbps until the quota (1gb / 2gb / 3gb) and throttles to 128kbps after that.

Celcom... to be honest, since Celcom isn't an iPhone partner... no idea what they'll do.

I signup because I'M OK with the rate. Show me in the contract or advertisement that said user WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FIND OUT their current usage.

That's why I said it's unfair practice.

You have known about this practice BUT NOT ME.

All other carrier don't charge their customer for over quota except for pay per use.

Even Maxis don't charge extra for their broadband package. The only package they did is smartphone plan.

are you saying the meter in the iPhone disagrees with the Maxis meter? does Maxis even have a meter? if they don't have a meter, how did you agree to pay more?
didn't you ask all this questions when you sign the contract?
unfair practice, then leave la! break the contract, pay the termination n port your number. complaining here or even to MCMC will not make a difference
you signed a contract with a telco that's been doing this for many many years. saya tak tahu mereka akan buat begitu is not really a good response in this case smile.gif

guys, internal information
Maxis changing the data charging block from 1KB to 10KB (which is well publish)
they say they now change to so call industries standard (by just compare to digi)
Australia still using 1KB/block charging nationwide for all the telco

with that simple changes, maxis revenue on gprs pay per use and over usage charges shoot-up (increase) 40% month over monthby revenue count.

due to this changes any iphone user will notice the different data amount charge by maxis is significant higher then previous month (even u not using more)

i believe this is another case MCMC is blink, or been paid by Maxis to shut up about this issue

with the data block change with push technology enable, dont be surprise if u see iphone data usage is 700MB, Maxis bill come is over 1GB,

They not only increase in profit, also reduce the demand on upgrade their charging server

Really hope MCMC can protect us rather then keep quiet

Sorry for the late reply. This is a SS on the "View Usage" screen on my Maxis BB account:

However I am not sure if this is real time or updated every hour or daily basis.

@iveswoon where have you been? our govt n industry have always been ripping off the public.
don't like the rates, change carrier. that's the only thing that affects Maxis. everything else, they don't care, cos their only KPI is the bottom line i.e. profit.

@JasonSky is there anything like that for iPhone users?

Wait, the data counter in the Iphone is not the same as my actual usage with Maxis now?? I've only used about 10.3 MB of data since I use wifi whenever possible, surely it's not more than that?? Can I call CS and check what my current usage is??
