I wanna sound out my frustration!! (still half way thru reading the thread. I have signed up for an iphone 155 plan on 22/5/10, saturday, and due to my billing cycle starts on 28th everymonth, they mentioned that instead of the full 1Gb entitlement, they would pro-rate it... fine, today when the bill comes, I got a shock!! coz for the 1 week usage i need to pay an extra RM230!!

I have called maxis, but their staff said, they can't get the details of my usage! (crap, the bill is out, but the details are not out yet? are they plucking the figure from sky??!!) arrghhh

The bill shows that i have used 256,736KB during the 1 week!!

Anyone can help?

Hi fiseel...

did you immediately start surfing on the Iphone and downloaded any apps from App Store? or tether with your SIM after u got it? because from what i got from this forum and those Maxis guys ,
the IValue plan might take from anywhere from 5-24 hours for it to be activated, If you did then i guess your data charges was on a pay-as-you use basis and hence why the charges. infact the Maxis agents told me the same thing that it'll be prorated and to be careful with the data usage till the next billing cycle

What i did was i called the Maxis Center to confirm that they have activated the plan before i started using my Iphone. which was the following day, only used it to confgure it in ITunes and get it synced up properly. Got mine on the 28th May and my billing cycle ends every 16th infact im still using my old phone not till my next billing cycle im gonna use it for calls and the usual stuff. using it via Wifi at home and downloaded a heck load of stuff. Its a very expensive Ipod Touch for the moment and my data counter is still 0 Kbytes all without the Sim inside laugh.gif

Nope i didn't immediately use the phone for surfing n stuff on the iphone. I got it around 7++ and i did call up maxis around 10+pm at nite to confirm that they have switched my plan b4 i started using the phone. And then i didn't use it to download itunes or stuff, basically i just use the phone, go to the app store and download a handful of free apps! I only configure the iTunes on Monday, (got the phone on sat) when i am in office with the WIFI service available. As I was worried about the pro-rated entitlement, i did use it with care, i normally download those apps when i have WIFI connection, in office n at home. I only use the mail for a few days and then delete off the a/c, didn't on facebook nor messenger. even safari also just browse maxis n some blog just to test it out. didn't use it heavily on youtube but only watched once or twice only .....

Anyway I have asked them to give me a breakdown of usage.... which till now no feedback from them yet (coz they say have to wait for the detailed usage report to be out....bla bla bla) and yet i receive an sms saying that my case has been resolved and ask me to rate their service! when i call to complaint that the case was not resolved, they mention, the case is consider resolved as later the CS staff would open a new case once the detailed report is out!! I just think that they want to close the case so that it satisfied their SLA!!

whats your Wifi signal strength? coz its been reported that at times when your wifi signal is low, the iPhone will engage the 3G services to ensure there is a stable connection and that eats up the usable data, youtube also? hmm probably could be that also since we dont really know what is the video size that we are watching...im saying definitely it is but my suggestion...

The WIFI strenght are normally very good, full 3 line. But am just wondering, for certain location (with no WIFI), i couldn't get 3G connection, and it was connected to EDGE (coz i can see from the E sign) will this affect the charges? I thought with Edge u will only get slower speed, is this the case?

Anyway, i dunno how to trace the video size.... lenght of video is 6:29 this is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRxvNhlS4V4 (something to talk about the space saving furniture) maybe someone could enlighten me on this?

Thanks

the video you watch is 23.8mb which works out to be rm238, based on 1mb = rm10
for rm238 you could have 400+ lanun dvd titles rclxms.gif

EDGE is slower than 3G but you are charge on data not speed.

i should have around 200MB for the 7 days usage ler.... i have been trying to recall and this is the most possible culprit for taking up the data. coz other than that, i just use it to download some free apps

i am still waiting for maxis to revert to me what actually went wrong, coz most of the time, i am using the phone for calling only

I would highly suspect the possible culprit to be the apps itself among others with the youtube taking your prorated quota. Let me just show you few example here based on what I have in my apps.
Awesome Note Lite (free): 8.4 MB
Awesome Note (paid): 10.3 MB

Angry Birds Lite (free): 10.2 MB
Angry Birds (paid): 13.3 MB

Twitter: 4.5MB
Tweetdeck: 2.4MB

As you can see, paid or free doesn't matter anyway since if paid it will go to the iTunes but what matters would be between you and telco in this case if mostly are downloaded using cell line. I can understand that after getting the iPhone you will start downloading stuff from iTunes. Well iPhone have this magnet that can have everyone go nuts as soon as they get their hands on it with all those apps.

Fiseel,

It is most likely you exceeded the data cap. This is the downside of Maxis 500MB cap. They should introduce the throttling after the 500 MB, not a staggering charges of 10sen/10kb.

Well, for what it's worth, be more careful with your data usage next time.

i had the same problem as u. i think most of us do. problem is no one really bothers to fight for their consumer rights.. mine was over by 175 bucks.. cause of the pro-rated thing. i called 3 different customer service who i ask to escalate to their top management. i told thm its really pushing it over, cause the representative that sold me the phone did not inform me..

i got the case resolved and got the 175 over bucks rebate. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

and yes. thy will close the case so that thy can hit their KPI. their objective is to solve the case best either on phone.. or within a day..

get their name.. and call thm back up (same person) and reopen the case.. or tell thm u'd go public with this nonsense..

Don't you think this is part of Maxis unfair trade practices?

It's very simple for them - out of 10 people who got this problem, 5 will complain, 5 will pay.

Out of 5 who complains, 3 will give up due to many layers of referral to waive charges. Only 2 will be persistent and got their rebate back. So maxis still profit from this unfair practice.

I got a friend who has been overcharged by maxis monthly for the last 1 year (family line, but somehow maxis does not give him the family call charges rebate ). He didn't bother to go to Maxis center to sort it out due to lack of time and pay maxis extra RM20-30 monthly dutifully.

This is just an example , for I believe there would be many less-educated aunties/uncles out there who would just pay Maxis for the bill... even if they are overcharged a few tens of ringgit a month...

yup, certainly. maxis is having us consumers at a disadvantage. we need to be persistent. what more calling 123 luckily is free..

for prepaid hotlink. i still remembered it was free, until thy lifted that privilege.. so whn i hv to call the consumer service, ill jus use a land-line, rather thn frm my mobile which the price to call any local line is exorbitant

so to fiseel.. jus ring thm up and tell thm the your unfair tale.. unless thy did give u a headsup and you decided not to heed their warning. sweat.gif

just to add, if you cannot get the rebate, just forward your bill and your sign up receipt to MCMC.

This will definitely get their attention.

You need to be jailbroken to be able to turn off data from your iPhone.
