I am avoiding htkaki as far as possible...tongue.gif

last night I took off my speaker grills and listen to Norah Jones "Come Away With Me" SACD.....and demn, I should get rid of those grills for a long long time ago....

but with kids running around in the house, still would be safer for me to put on those grills, else, many drivers would have poking holes on it sweat.gif

As many audiophiles have said speakers without grills tend to sound better than with them on. Maybe is more applicable to those warmer sounding speakers.

I used to have them wear-on when my system is in living hall as I have experienced my old speakers tweeters being poked by my kids. Now, all my spkrs are naked in my av room & look sexy too. tongue.gif

I too love the look of a naked speaker but i normally keep them on for cleanliness. However dust do, no matter wat, find their way on the tweeter and driver.

How do you guys clean your speaker and AV room?

For me i have those small micro fibre duster which i dust the driver with and extremely careful on the tweeter. Sometime use the lens blower gently on the tweeter.

The difference might be small fraction or even negligible as far as Mezzo is concern. You know why? Remember the Mezzzo tweeter is basically sitting on top of the Spkr cabinet. Even, with the grills on the tweeter is still "naked" so you are hearing the same tweeter sound...On top of that, using receiver to play thru cannot detect minor flaw. Hifi using cd is more obvious. Just my 2 cents. nod.gif

yup thats what i thought also... i read in other forums that a grille/cloth is effective in making a speaker sound warmer... since mezzo tweeters are exposed already then the highest freqs are not effected... smile.gif

ill get a proper CD player soon enough smile.gif
gotta get back all my CDs from overseas first tho...

Yes. A dedicated cdp is a must if you wanna listen pure music. Think hifi bugs are hitting me tongue.gif . Even it spreads to some sifus like anfiledude, htkaki already......haha. Ah Tan has said along the road of AV there will come a time we go for hifi for the purest sound.

Actually, I was in to hi-fi for the past 20years...I only recently came into HT about 3 years ago. For me, music is priority...I have run thru my series of amps and speakers from university days, from my very 1st amp the Luxman (that my friend still uses till this very day - almost 25 yrs old (hand me down.)

~ditto~ my first amp was a Akai integrated with analog VU meters, a turntable and a cassette deck, way back in 1979.
The pinnacle was my counterpoint mosfet hybrid pre and power combo, high end sony cdp, little bit dac and a pair of MA 1200 Gold.

Sold everything when my kids came along.
Now that they are rather grown up, dabbling into HT.

Have you heard a properly set up Planar speaker like those Electrostatic or Magnaplanar speaker? Depending on type of music, they sounded very differently from box speaker and can be additive to some people.

Since we're travelling down nostalgia street, all of us old timers grew up with hi-fi la .... that time mana ada HT, HD, blu-ray and all that jazz. hahaha. tongue.gif

My humble first set-up in the late 70's was a JVC integrated amp, Rotel turntable and Quad floorstanders. Before vinyls, it was 8-track catridges but those were pretty crappy lol. My first CD player was a Sharp in 1984, coupled with the venerable NAD 3020 amp. I still have my very first CD that i bought in 1984.

Back then, I think the UK influence was much more apparent as most people used to read What Hi-Fi (before they went overly commercial) and were bittten by the British brands bug.

haha it does serve an extra purpose. I just have an extra sub so decided to pair it with the 3311. Of coz still lose to svs but the 2 subs does give more feel during low frequency. Just watched war of the worlds and the low bass tremble can be felt.

Looks like I will be upgrading my amp first coz someone offered to buy it so Im thinking 4311 or A100 from Denon since it can calibrate 2 subs seperately.
