What size screen would sifu's here recommend for a 8.5' x 16' room?
Thinking of renovating my kids' drum cum store room into a dedicated HT room.
I was thinking of a 90" diagonal screen.
Would this be too big? Would 80" be better?
Thanks in advance.

About 12' to 13' away.

Do screens come in fixed sizes or can they be customized?

How high up from the floor must the lower edge of the screen be?

My tallest speaker is the SVS cyclinder which stands at ~38" (incl Subdude)
The Epos 303 is about 36" tall incl the stand/plinth.

If using a 90" screen, the width is 6.5', leaving about 1' on each side. Just nice I think as the Epos are narrow speakers.

guess I will have to settle for a smaller screen to accommodate the front speakers and the sub.
What is the next smaller size available?

For 2 channel stereo music playback, I think this layout is more form than function.

Agree as I am not into stereo music at all.
But for HT movie, it rocks rclxm9.gif

Not a taukeh at all.
I have a small rather quiet medical practise with 3 staff.

That's why I can spent so much time on this forum. shakehead.gif

Yes, it struggles to keep up with the mighty SVS.
It's 4 ohm and bi-amped but after the room treatment with the bass trap, it does sound better.
The overpowering bass really drowns it out sometimes #*waiting for the incoming poison@#*.

It's a matter of setting and loudness whether your sub will overpower the mains.

If you run the sub hotter than the mains then it might drown out the mains. Another possibility is if you listen very loud and your speakers cannot pump out as much volume as the sub.

This was before with the old sofa and no bass traps.
I needed to run 3dB hot to feel the bass, and the boom was apparent. This affected the mains.
Now with the new sofa and the single bass trap behind the sub, it is better.
I am running the sub at neutral 75dB.
Now trying to get REW going before I make and install another 3 traps.

~ditto~ my first amp was a Akai integrated with analog VU meters, a turntable and a cassette deck, way back in 1979.
The pinnacle was my counterpoint mosfet hybrid pre and power combo, high end sony cdp, little bit dac and a pair of MA 1200 Gold.

Sold everything when my kids came along.
Now that they are rather grown up, dabbling into HT.

It would be above RM10K for a midrange avr, 5 speakers and a sub.

It all about sharing ...unker here also share tho' it is a very entry level only, Every component from the avr to the HD ready plasma are entry level stuff.
The thrill and enjoyment it imparts is what counts...it is not about how big or how long....
I see the elite set-up and I know what to aspire for but, with age comes the wisdom of being satisfied with my current level.
However, I know what I should upgrade next!

It is being done by a pro installer.I have neither the time nor the skill to do it.
I have now wall mounted my Plasma TV with a custom made bracket which cost RM 230.
The screen is also on a wall bracket, a 92" manual pull down, and it will cover the wall mounted TV when in use.
Now have to reposition my dual subs and speakers, run Audyssey and watch a movie late tonight.
My curtains need changing !!

The pj is mounted about 12' away (screen to lens)
The height about 90" off the ground ( ground to base of pj).
This is slightly higher than the recommended 88.8", but no choice as can't find a pole short enough. So need to keystone -1
Screen size is 92' and viewing distance ~10' away.
Bottom edge of screen is 30" from the floor.

Added on August 21, 2011, 1:04 amThe cables are showing and the mess needs to be cleared in due time.
Will be making a 'wall to hide the bass traps and the screen casing.
A custom made longer cabinet is also planned to match the screen width and hide the unsightly cabling and power bank.
