For 2 channel stereo music playback, I think this layout is more form than function.

Agree as I am not into stereo music at all.
But for HT movie, it rocks rclxm9.gif
99% movies, the 1 % being concerts.

not big actually... the "listening area" is only 14 x 10.5 feet...

it is flanked by a walkway in the front portion that leads into the bedroom and outdoors...

honestly... i think the audible differences are still negligible... perhaps the ceiling needs to be treated also...

but the "clap" trick (where one would just clap the hands and listen for any echos) is improved

of course the clap trick doesn't cover an entire freq range...

Yes, it struggles to keep up with the mighty SVS.
It's 4 ohm and bi-amped but after the room treatment with the bass trap, it does sound better.
The overpowering bass really drowns it out sometimes #*waiting for the incoming poison@#*.

have always wondered if these sort of treatment requires professional help or would a DIY suffice. i could never trust myself to do it, knowing how little i know about these things. seems a pity spending all that $ on hardware without yielding the desired results ....

yonggoh,

Its important to use a good stereo CD to evaluate the differences. The differences for a movie are difficult to discern. The lfe improvement shd ur room have a problem is easy to make out, the others are more difficult and really more apparent when u do not have all 7 speakers blasting...

Of course, if ur room was already good to begin with, the differences are negligible.

It's a matter of setting and loudness whether your sub will overpower the mains.

If you run the sub hotter than the mains then it might drown out the mains. Another possibility is if you listen very loud and your speakers cannot pump out as much volume as the sub.

This was before with the old sofa and no bass traps.
I needed to run 3dB hot to feel the bass, and the boom was apparent. This affected the mains.
Now with the new sofa and the single bass trap behind the sub, it is better.
I am running the sub at neutral 75dB.
Now trying to get REW going before I make and install another 3 traps.
