I guess it's just so people will keep using the iPhone *grins* I don't know what i'm going to do when I'm going to have to move from iPhone to another kind of phone cause.... cause i have so many contacts it's just going to be almost impossible!

actually the main reason (my own personal speculation) is because most modern phones or PDA nowadays come with full integration with both PC/MAC (more towards PC) and from there you can easily import and export using its own proprietary software (for example outlook).
my point is also further reinforced with the overwhelming success of google and its contacts synchronisation.
hence @ tinkerbel, if you are planning to switch to another manufacturer (provided it is not nokia 3100), you are in safe hands.
heads up; blackberry has recently launched its own MAC compatible synchronisation software after numerous years.
Added on October 14, 2009, 1:25 pmbesides, the technology employed to copy data from and to the SIM card is so blinking ancient.
only limited to telephone numbers (when e-mails, IMs now play equivalent vital roles) and a restricted amount of characters for contact names.
