indeed SSD is way more expensive than RAM, but 4gb->8gb makes not much different if you don't open big file or super multi tasking. SSD will improve your daily experience, even when you start up your mac. So you decide. My advice 8gb not necessary (might be waste of money), save more for SSD, or don't upgrade at all.

QUOTE(freezadwar @ Aug 15 2011, 09:57 PM) depends on the SSD though, i saw the OWC 115 GB SSD is $197.99 the max mentioned on apple tech spec is 8GB. but some ram manufacturer claims it's possible. that would be pretty awesome but the 2 X 8GB DDR3 1333 would burn a huge hole in your account. btw guys, i would like to know i've read at some places, that we can upgrade our MBP ram up to 16GB, izzit true? QUOTE(x-199Tx @ Aug 16 2011, 09:12 PM) guys got a question . which is better on your opinion for macbook pro 13' i5 ram upgrade ? in my opinion, go for kingston. it's cheaper. Kingston Macbook Compatible Laptop DDR3 1066 4GB KTA-MB1066/4GB VS corsair CMSA4GX3M1A1066C7 DDR3, 1066MHz 4GB 1x204 SODIMM, Apple Qualified, Unbuffered if you're keen on getting only the best for your macbook, have a look at hynix. i think apple uses hynix rams in their macbooks by default. i'm not sure if you can get it easily here, though. and it definitely won't be cheap. i spent hours today looking for corsair sticks @ computer shops. most only carry kingston. so, i ended up buying kingston KVR sticks for my mbp. RM69 a stick at thundermatch digital mall. |

Since we talk a lot about RAM upgrades here. I was just wondering who actually does the certification for so-called "Apple Certified Ram". Certainly it's not Apple, since they don't have a ram certification program.
Just a marketing ploy? When I sell the ram from my MBP, can I sell it off as Apple-Certified since I've been running it constantly on my MBP with no probs for x no of months. I also have 4 sticks of 1GB DIMMs which are "Hackintosh certified". I'll even print a Certificate for you. This post has been edited by soonwai: Aug 18 2011, 02:22 AM |

yeah i dont think apple tested the rams. i just think kingston etc tested the ram on macs (not all of them of course) n that's it. quick way to make extra money
soonwai i dont think u should use the term apple-certified, maybe just mentioned u used it in ur mac n hackintosh w/o problems. juz make sure to give a full refund if for some reason it doesnt work on the buyer's mac/hackintosh |

since i saw this forum regarding upgrading of ram from 2GBx2 to 4GBx2 at only less than RM200, i also would like to upgrade mine. My MBP is mid 2009, do u think i can upgrade to 8GB? so following this thread, getting Kingston KTA is good? My current RAM is DDR3 1067mhz, so getting 1066 would be confirmed suitable?

^ yeah 8gb sure no problem for yours
kingston KTA = good, expensive kingston KVR = equally good, less than half the price of KTA 1067mhz is actually 1066.66666... some brands prefer to name it 1066 and some prefer 1067...same thing lah actually. |
