Noob question here. I've been doing some reading on the forum but I'm still unsure.

I just purchased a MacBook Pro 13" i7 2.7GHz and it comes with 2 X 2GB DDR3 1333MHz. I wanna upgrade to 2 X 4GB DDR3 1333MHz.

The usual question i would ask a RAM seller is, "Is all DDR3 1333MHz RAM compatible with my macbook pro?"

- quite a few answers "yes, as long as it's DDR3 1333. kingston or corsair or mushkin no problem."
- and some said "no, you have to buy apple certified ram" - they're more expensive
- some said "kingston can use regular ram. if corsair have to use apple certified ram" huh? rclxub.gif

so. you can imagine my confusion. i've been reading through the forum but i'm still not convinced. can someone please clarify? i'm looking to upgrade with a regular corsair 4GB DDR3 1333 (RM97). next choice is kingston 4GB DR3 1333 (RM85).

thanks in advance, everyone.

btw guys, i would like to know i've read at some places, that we can upgrade our MBP ram up to 16GB, izzit true?

the max mentioned on apple tech spec is 8GB. but some ram manufacturer claims it's possible. that would be pretty awesome but the 2 X 8GB DDR3 1333 would burn a huge hole in your account. tongue.gif

guys got a question . which is better on your opinion for macbook pro 13' i5 ram upgrade ?

Kingston Macbook Compatible Laptop DDR3 1066 4GB KTA-MB1066/4GB
        VS
corsair CMSA4GX3M1A1066C7 DDR3, 1066MHz 4GB 1x204 SODIMM, Apple Qualified, Unbuffered

in my opinion, go for kingston. it's cheaper. smile.gif

if you're keen on getting only the best for your macbook, have a look at hynix. i think apple uses hynix rams in their macbooks by default. i'm not sure if you can get it easily here, though. and it definitely won't be cheap.

i spent hours today looking for corsair sticks @ computer shops. most only carry kingston. so, i ended up buying kingston KVR sticks for my mbp. RM69 a stick at thundermatch digital mall. tongue.gif

any PC shop should have the ram u need. corsair, kingston, mushkin brands should be okay. for 2x4gb the price shud be rm150 tops. if possible, bring ur mac together and ask them to install for u. this way if it doesnt work, can easily swap another one
i believe hynix only produces the chips, not the RAM module itself. some kingston module uses hynix rams. apple does not only use hynix though, some use micron. i THINK some using samsung chips too
cannot answer that ques bro. it depends on what application u using. if u never need more than 4gb, then even if u upgrade to 8gb u wont feel any improvement. this is true for any operating system.

thanks for correcting me on the hynix stuff. i can confirm that apple uses samsung chip. i just replaced mine with the 4GB kingston KVR and the factory 2GB sticks are samsung. smile.gif
