hi all.

this is amanda.

i would like to install parallel d. to my macbook pro, but my machine is bought for about three years, never upgrade, nothing, version 10.5.8.
original spec:
processor 2.4GHZ intel core 2 duo, memory 2GB 667mhz ddr2 SDRAM .. etc.

1. so, should i upgrade it and what should i upgrade before install parallel d.?

2. the main reason is to run Autocad window on it, although there is a new launch for Autocad Mac and i actually installed autocad mac (student version- from lecturer); still i get used to autocad window as mac version is slightly different. basically i use the desktop (non mac but customized pc from IT agent) at home for autocad, 3d max; but it is more convenient if i could do autocad work with a mobile laptop.

kindly pm me if you could advise me in detail. (eg. how to get parallel d. besides buying online and where should i go to upgrade the macbook)

appreciate your reply. thank you. biggrin.gif

1. not upgrading will be fine, but if u can, upgrade ur RAM to 2x2gb. u can feel the performance improvement. u can buy RAMs at normal pc shops n normally they can help u install, so bring ur mbp along

2. most apple resellers do sell the parallel desktop dvd. dont forget u need a copy of windows too, most PC shops should have them. a 32-bit one should be enough.

help : what would be the best option to dual boot if i'm using a new 2011 Macbook air 11" 1.4ghz/2gb ram - Parallels desktop or Bootcamp ?

Previously i was using a 15" mbp/4gb ram and the choice was simpler in using PD6. but with this lower powered machine, i'm afraid running PD6 wud b laggy... please shed some light.

My Experience

1. Bootcamp run faster windows than PD (I'm using PD6)
2. PD6 better file management to transfer window->mac->window, in a way it save HDD spaces. Since you are using MBA 11" do you have enough storage 64 ssd or 128ssd?
3. Gaming definitely u need bootcamp.

Initially i was using bootcamp but after upgrade to SSD storage space drop from 500gb to 240gb. With PD i only keep one copy of song and movie files, while working with window and can also access mac.

Why boot camp? Use Parallels Desktop la... can run Windows inside MacOSX.

I'm using this software to run Ubuntu, XP, 7 and soon, Vista.

U need lots of RAM for this...

just run bootcamp from spotlight 1st.

and check your balance hdd storage.. if its defragmented or more than half being used.. its hard to partition.

do a backup with time machine 1st.

heres a complete guide to bootcamp. its not tht hard.. just need to explore.

http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/01/15/using...te-walkthrough/

make sure u backup ur data using time machine 1st just in case anything goes wrong.
