Hi,
I've gone thru few pages of this thread but somehow still kinda blur.
So which is actually better for Gaming?

Say if I run bootcamp, can I boot windows from an ext hdd cos my current is only 500GB. I dont think it's enough for me...

for gaming, or any programs that need a lot of computing power, boot camp is the solution. simple as that

parallels or fusion is for convenience. the performance of the latest versions are much better compared to the older ones, but can never ever beat performance of boot camp. just remember like that

but i imagine running windows from ext hdd would be really slow, so no point gaming like that. why dont u just upgrade ur hdd?

@neko alister88, you can't run/install/boot windows [using bootcamp] on an external HDD. rite dvlz?

imo, 500gb is more than enough to have a bootcamp partition in your mac. what i'd do is transfer some data to your external and allocate a generous amount of space for your windows bootcamp; as you can't change the directory/size after you've created the bootcamp partition; if i remember correctly.

yeah i dont think boot camp allows windows to be stored on an external drive. im sure there's a workaround somehow, just that i think it's pretty stupid to do that ;p

from what i've read, changing the size is possible but need 3rd party software like gparted. never tried it myself

i wonder how much you want to allocate your hard disk space for windows partition since 500GB is not enough for you? hmm.gif

Hey guys,

Thanks for yer feedbacks! biggrin.gif
Well Im actually new to Mac and Im using iMac.
About upgrading my HDD i dont know how to do so unless it's windows tongue.gif or else i need to fork out some amount to get it done?

If 500 can handle both Windows and Mac then it would be great! wink.gif
so what are the suggested partitions? 50-50 or does Mac need more?

Thanks again for the feedbacks! Appreciate it! biggrin.gif

* then i can save few bucks from buying the software hehe...*

The current 2011 MBP 13" support only 32-bit or 64-bit editions of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate, and do not support Windows Vista or Windows XP.

Source

Get one of those mentioned above to be save. Else if u wanna run Windows 7 (other versions) or even WinXp, you got to run in virtual machines (Parallels or VMWare Fusion).

Hi guys,

I am going to study in india soon. Using a Macbook for 1 year plus.

I plan to install windows XP in my mb.
1) My main purpose is to access some password protect file(lecture notes, tutorials) in Microsoft words, excel..etc.. Only windows can open(read only) but not mac office.
2) Watching PPStream
3) Light gaming (need for speed)

So bootcamp or parallel do you guys think i should use?

***another problem. In mac, I dont need to worry virus attack my machine. But, when i install windows, will it work the same way?! Or i have to install antivirus to secure my machine?!

Thanks biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

it really depends on your personal usage.

there's a thread for ppstream discussion HERE

i myself would definitely go bootcamp with your needs.

any infections in windows side will be contained in its particular partition. it won't 'jump' to your mac os x partition afaik. you still need antivirus whenever you're booting in windows though.

good luck with ur studies icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi there,

Just bought a Macbook pro 13-inch 2011, I have installed the PD 6 with windows 7, it works well.
But there is some problem with the kmplayer that I installed on it, the kmplayer can play MKV file nice and smooth, but when comes to RMVB file the speed is double up. Is anyone did installed kmplayer on a PD? and do you have similar problem? Or some setting on the PD or Kmplayer will be able to solve this problem?

Thanks!!!
