Bootcamp works as a dual boot system where you choose which OS to boot during startup.

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of getting Parallel Desktop for my Mac as I have to do my website design on mac and coding on the Windows side.
I'm now using bootcamp, I feel troublesome when I have to reboot my mac to do the design and reboot for coding.
I'll have to reboot more than 5 times just do a single page.
But what is the disadvantage of virtualisation for the hardware, software and performance? (compare to bootcamp)

Hi. I was just wondering whether anyone is having any problems with connecting to the Internet via windows partition of Bootcamp.

I successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate with Bootcamp 3.1 but I have a persisting problem with my Internet. I am connected to the network but it states that :
IPv4 Connectivity : No Internet access
IPv6 Connectivity : no Network access
Media State : Enabled

Also, my computer can't even find ANY networks if I don't put in a USB dongle. The dongle is a 54Mbps WL-U356L 802.11g Wireless Adapter from Planet.

I need to get the Internet connectivity problem fixed ASAP as I need to register my Windows since I have to go to Australia and this copy of Windows can only be registered in Asia. Any help, anyone? Thank you.

Try going to
Start > Control Panel > Device Manager
If there's an exclamation mark (!) on the Network driver, right-click and Uninstall it. Then follow up by right-clicking on the parent (your machine name at the very top of the tree) and Detect Hardware Changes

does the bootcamp works like VM? does it required to load MacOS first then only can boot into windows?

Bootcamp isn't a Virtual Machine, like VMware or Parallel Desktop. It's just an "add-on" that allows you to boot into Windows using a Mac machine (without even entering OSX proper) while maintaing some OSX functionality, e.g. trackpad gestures.

Now my turn to ask:
I've done my fair share of Googling and knowledge base scouring, but I have yet to find a definitive solution to my dilemma. I've installed Windows 7 Home Premium in Bootcamp and am now running Parallel 6 through my Bootcamp partition. This then prompted Windows to throw a hissy fit and demand activation, despite having gone through their dumb Genuine Advantage BS. To put it simply, the Activation Wizard isn't recognising my (valid) Product Key.

Is there anyway for me to activate Windows in Parallel while still being able to Bootcamp into Windows?

Finally managed to activate it (I think).
Launched my Bootcamp partition in Parallels, ran Activate Windows (Start > Search > "Activate") and went through the automated phone activation process.

When asked if it's "Windows Vista, XP, or Family Pack"
Answer NO ("2")

When asked if you're reinstalling Windows on the same PC
Answer YES ("1")

When asked if you have uninstalled Windows on the other PC
Answer YES ("1")

So far haven't had any problems when booting into Bootcamp or running Parallels.

I really getting pissed with bootcamp. First, I could not wake up my Windows XP from standby, each time I open back the lid the whole screen is just dark and nothing happens.

Not sure why the volumn for Windows XP is much softer than SL, this problem existed for a long long time but Apple yet to fix it with software update.

Anyone facing the same problem as me ? I am using MBP mid 2010

First of all, restarting from Hibernation, Sleep or Standby with Windows XP is asking for trouble.

I'm also not surprised that such problems persists. Microsoft has officially abandoned Windows XP, and Apple has never been a company who cares about legacy support.

Best solution? Upgrade to Windows 7 (retail)

well parallels desktop is not a microsoft product, so yes u need to separately get windows

PD is a software to install another OS on ur mac.. not necessarily windows

I would go for vmware or pd. Works fine from what i know if you want to run MS software. Didn't try that since I'm using it to boot into linux etc.
No idea much on virtual box but i heard it's a bit pain to get it to work. If you want something that simply works easily I would suggest PD or vmware
