Get ready for a 6 months wait. Once Pre shows up on the European side, then you will see the Asian model coming in. Pre, as pointed out by Frozzbyte, is CDMA only.
Less than 10% of the original 150,000 units. The crowd are probably heeding the advice of not getting it there and then because of the new G[S] model, we may see a spike in uptake of the 90,000 units of the G[S] shipment. But I would foresee units to be widely available, it will be shocking if Malaysians swarm Maxis for the G[S]. Tech acceptance here is fairly low.

haha, i highly doubt people in Malaysia will be camping outside stores to wait for the iphone 3GS like in overseas (like what bro stringfellow encountered last year)... but less than 10% is a pretty poor statistic, i wonder what went wrong there hmm.gif

I've said it before and I'll say it again:- Maxis came in too late. By the time they are launching, Malaysians have already used, fondled, and utilised their 3G units for up to 8 months already.

I hope they learn their lessons and not repeat the same mistake as they did with the 3G launch. If they delay this any further, they will fall further down the cycle, and will never recoup their losses. I do feel sorry for the initial 3G takers, but if I am Maxis, I cannot afford to lose more mind- or marketshare to foreign purchases of what should have been my product offering (3G[S]) and stuck being the dumping ground later. They (MAxis) need to catch up to leverage on the initial surge for the latest products. Early adopters are always the more reliable market to rely on than casual- or on-the-fence buyers.

I wouldn't put it as "impossible" as of yet. I may say NO now, but who knows what I would feel when I'm holding it in my hands when I'm there. tongue.gif The price would definitely be the main concern, unlockability the second most important thing.

Otherwise, I'll see you on Malaysian launch day, bro! rclxms.gif

surely....we go i3gS shopping sama sama...we get few more ppl from here n we can mass purchase...tongue.gif

T-Mobile still have the injuction against them(sued by Vodafone) held back, IIANM, for selling unlocked iPhones, in countries where they are operating at, including the Netherlands. I'm not sure on whether they are still doing that, or the price for that matter, but we'll see.

We have yet to know. That's why is not in the pinned thread. Any updates/news on it, it will be posted on the pinned threads. There will be a list of countries with unlock iPhone up when we do get more information. We do reckon that it will be officially unlock but yet to be confirm.

Cheers

I'm more anticipated with the coming OS 3.0 next week than the 3GS to be honest, but reviews of the 3GS might change my mind.

What Maxis would probably do to avoid angry early subscibers of their iPhone 3G is drop the monthly subscription rate and increase the usage cap for them. Then the new 3G[S] will come in with it's own rates and cap as well. It will not make the early subscribers "feel foolish" as said by Valentineday but at least it'll ease the pain tongue.gif.

Next time, look at the big picture. Keep up with the scene or risk being left behind, or worse, buying into the hype and then "feeling foolish" later when your spanking new unit get superseded.

Yes, Maxis came in too late. However, we can't forgo consideration that Maxis has been in negotiations with Apple for a long time now. When Maxis have received the acceptance, the iPhone 3G is well ready for a replacement. So what would you do? Delay? Well there're more telcos waiting to grab that kind of relationship Apple. The exclusivity.

I think Maxis knows full well of its stakes. Everyone knows that the iPhone has a lifespan of 1 year+.

Why would Maxis want to do that? The iPhone customers should know that Apple constantly updates its line. They chose to dive into it at a certain point, while others chose to wait. It's a fair and square thing you know.

I actually think Maxis should follow suit AT&T - a much lower price for 3G 8GB, and maintain the price for 16GB & 32GB 3GS.

Which is why there's a thing call contract - to lock you down. This is something like futures. To lock down a certain price which you have to buy when the time comes in due time. This is to counter all the uncertainties like the case of iPhone 3G[S]. When you're on a contract, you have to honor it. So this works in Maxis's favor obviously. So yes, why would they want to terminate an agreement which favors them. Do we get angry? No. Why should we? We enter into an agreement in free will. Try remembering the day you sign this with Maxis. You wanted the iPhone 3G and you agreed to their terms. In other words, we knew this was coming. We're not surprised. A lot of warnings given by forumers here. What about regular consumers? Guess why the adoption rate into Maxis's iPhone is so low? Probably it has something to do with the eventual release of a new iPhone. Does it ring a bell?

This kind of case is nothing new. Articles over the internet has been discussing AT&T's terms of accepting 'qualified users' into its iPhone 3G[S] contract. Only qualified (ones who have completed most of its remaining months in contract) and new users only accepted for the new plan. AT&T knows about the people wanting to upgrade. Why would AT&T terminate agreement, trade-in and loose potential revenue on the contract so that users are allowed to upgrade? At what cost?

Hey I was just trying feebly to placate the "feeling foolish" early subscribers! More often than not, I took the role you two are doing now, putting down the hard truth nobody wanna listen to, which gained me my notorious reputation. What a role reversal! laugh.gif

hear, hear davidmak! LOL.

One thing that makes me very unsatisfied with Maxis' contract offering is the pricing of the packages.
In US, AT&T asks for $199 (about... RM700?) for the phone with 2 year contract ($69.99/month for unlimited data + 450 mins)
In SG, Singtel asks for S$59.99/month for 2 yr contract (1GB data + 200 mins + 500sms)
In MY, Maxis asks for MYR1510 for the phone with 2 yr contract (RM100/month for MYR50 airtime + MYR50 data EXCLUDING sms charges).

OMG Maxis seriously needs to revise its offers.... T_T

I feel the pain too. But if we dig deep enough (probably hard because we don't live there), the cost of overall service is the same. Remember that our per minutes charges are cheap, but the same thing on other countries' network could be less competitive. The taxes, etc. All of this has to be taken into consideration rather a mere look at the published price.
