QUOTE(baretta @ Jun 11 2009, 03:50 PM) Remember not only tomtom offer Gps navigation, Navigon also will launch mobilenavigator... Wonder if some pal would release a cheap software that will pull all those components together (including turn by turn) at a price of USD5.99 or 9.99. Of course with Google and Apple's blessings.

QUOTE(auhckw @ Jun 11 2009, 07:59 AM) Friend working in Maxis saying iPhone 3GS will be launched July. Test unit coming in already. I hope I get to touch it before market release. I can counter-confirm on this. From the Product Development team in Maxis, test units are already in. Testing vendor for Maxis's iPhone 3G[S] is Wipro, is assisting them in configuring the test units. For the numbers, Maxis has topped up another 90,000 units of iPhone 3G[S], making it 240,000 units, including the 150,000 units from the previous iPhone 3G shipment. I would not worry about units running out of stock, they are having trouble pushing 10% of that number for sale.

Now the question is whether maxis will allow trade-ins. Well this may be totally out of topic but i just came back from collecting my new iphone. It was a 1 to 1 exchange so I asked quite a few questions regarding the new 3GS and lol the staff just told be to be announced soon. His advise was for me to wait another year for the next upcoming iphone unless u enjoy speed.
Besides that, he even told me something interesting that the next iphone(not 3GS) will have a 5 megapixel for the camera, and 2 megapixel for front face camera. Maybe he spilled out a little cause i was complaining bout no front-face camera in iphones). Not sure how true this is but he also added that platinum is used for the bezel (cant rmb if it really is the bezel but this is what i can recall). This matches the news where Apple secured a deal with a china company manufacturing 5mpxel lens.
Anyhow this is just verbal. Im not sure how accurate this can be but this was what a staff told me. He owns an iphone as well and told me that he was gonna keep the 3G and not upgrading to 3GS first. Really nice guy and he helped me claim for a crack in my iphone.Don't fire me yea

Unless he is someone from Team Kiwi, I wouldn't hold much credence on what they say.He may be an enthusiast himself, and thought of lending credence to himself because of his affiliation with Maxis.
That camera/bezel news, IMO, are most probably be for Apple's "Tablet" that is slated for next year. Macrumors has that piece of info in a few weeks before all the iPhone 3G[S] news pours in.

Hope maxis does a trade-in Get ready for a 6 months wait. Once Pre shows up on the European side, then you will see the Asian model coming in. Pre, as pointed out by Frozzbyte, is CDMA only. QUOTE(shinchan^^ @ Jun 11 2009, 05:31 PM) 240,000 units... what is the sales statistic so far? Less than 10% of the original 150,000 units. The crowd are probably heeding the advice of not getting it there and then because of the new G[S] model, we may see a spike in uptake of the 90,000 units of the G[S] shipment. But I would foresee units to be widely available, it will be shocking if Malaysians swarm Maxis for the G[S]. Tech acceptance here is fairly low. Always get something because you see it beneficial to your day-to-day life. Never base your purchases on what others perceive it to be or how much it is priced at.
My 16GB 3G is constantly running out of space, my scaling back/juggling on the things I can put into it has come to being ridiculous already. The video recording capability would supplement my work trips and excursions, especially for trips to NY and the likes. I'd be more inclined to whip out my iPhone and record than a camcorder and immediately identify myself as a tourist.

It still is my life target to get a Iphone by my own $$ since few years ago. It will be my 1st step to enter Apple world and start learning iphone programming.

I may say NO now, but who knows what I would feel when I'm holding it in my hands when I'm there. The price would definitely be the main concern, unlockability the second most important thing. Otherwise, I'll see you on Malaysian launch day, bro!

Unless you're very serious about having clear quality videos, the S would be good enough. VGA recording hardware, the size of a name card? Quite a good package in one. I truly am getting it for my needs. And I'm glad it'll be here in July.
