I'm inspired by one of the posts above, about the best 11 for Man Utd. Since we've got no popular topic to talk about right now, I'll start with my best Man Utd line-up. You could start yours if you want to, or when you have ample time to waste
I only started watching football since 1994, so, Schmeichel P.Neville Ferdinand Vidic Irwin Beckham Scholes Keane Giggs Cantona Solksjaer Some of them are pretty obvious and I won't dwell much on them. Schmeichel, Irwin, Becks-Keano-Scholes-Giggs ( the best midfield lineup the world has ever seen), Cantona are pretty obvious choices. P.Neville is my fav MU RB. Yes, even better than Gary. The only problem that Phil faced was that he was too good, too versatile and there wasn't a fixed position for him to play week in week out, unlike Gary, who could only play CB and RB. Given a choice, I would have started Phil every week in RB. Rio and Vida - the best defensive partnership we've seen in MU. It was tough choosing the other striker pairing with The King, but my vote goes to Solksjaer. He was the best finisher in the world and you can pair him with anyone, he'll still deliver for you. Great character, great footballer, deserves my first 11 spot. |

QUOTE(raito takahashi @ Apr 1 2009, 10:48 PM) Haha, no bad. But the best 11 of you put is no suitable for current EPL football tempo. I don't think the "oldies" played in a slower tempo in the 90's. I would say that now we're playing more tactical football, unlike the free flowing style back in the 90's. But in any case, I'm sure that the team above could excel in any style.Currently all the EPL football teams which like to play fast tempo.. Added on April 1, 2009, 11:54 pm QUOTE(madmoz @ Apr 1 2009, 11:21 PM) no steve bruce? no gary pallister? no kapitan marvel robson either? Well, like I said i started watching since 94. Robbo already retired, Keano was the Capt. Marvel for me. Bruce-Pallister was alright but if you recall in the 90's, we were letting in alot of goals. It was only compensated by the goals we scored, which we did in abundance. Rio-Vida is the best we've ever got. The most balanced pair.also methinks hughes was the better finisher? no? Hughes was alright, good finisher and a natural goalscorer but Solksjaer was in a league of his own. He might not even come into mind when an MU fan is asked to pick his Best 11, but he's almost the perfect striker for me. His finishing skills are amazing, a two feeter, knows exactly where to place the ball, great in air, fast and most of all, a great professional. He seldom starts but he never complains, and he shows his mettle on the pitch, by scoring goals. I've never seen a better finisher in the world than Solksjaer. P.Neville as RB? hmm, sad to say but Manchester United havent had any good RB up till now. Maybe we'll have to wait for Rafeal to mature, could be the RB version of Evra. I'd rather put Wes Brown there atm, not bad performance so far and have been scoring a few goals.
Other than that the whole lineup is just perfect since I've just started worshipping during 1996. |

QUOTE(Hevrn @ Apr 1 2009, 10:21 AM) Its true actually. Was doing a lil research for my assignment few days back and lo and behold, Angola actually posted about a 15% real GDP growth, about the third best in the globe, well above the world average. Praise be to the United marketing dept. Which is the 1st and the 2nd best then? 15% growth is mighty big... QUOTE(creap @ Apr 2 2009, 12:42 AM) Not really. If you can recall, Phil started in RB, whenever Gary is unavailable and boy he was something. Gary is Gary, you don't expect much from him and sometimes you dread that he'll make mistakes. With Phil, you don't know what you'll get, he's a tad unpredictable. He's faster, more aggresive, just the RB we need right now. You don't remember Phil playing a RB because he plays everywhere in the pitch, LB, midfield left right center, but for me he'll always be the best RB we've had. |

For me, Gary is the best right back. Remember the time when he was playing behind David Beckham? They complement each other very well.
Rio was subbed off last night. Hope he is not injured. |

Rio I mean. But I think just as a precaution to take him out of the game. And yes I agree that GNev-Becks was a very good pairing down the right, back in the days.Rio was subbed off last night. Hope he is not injured. |

it's just like Evra & CR or Irwin & Giggs at the left
I think it's just a matter of getting an established RM & RB, coz we've seen so many combo down the right recently |

To me best 11 means nothing if these players cannot work together as a unit. Case in hand the England team for the past 4-5 tournaments.
My take on United best 11. Schmeichel Gary Stam Vidic Irwin Beckham Scholes Keano Giggsy Cole Yorke I have to take out some big names like Ronaldo, Rio & Ruud for isntance. The midfield is the best to me by far, Beckham supplying the crosses and Giggs with his trickery and runs on the other end. All these players would die for each other. Ruud has to go out since to me the Yorke and Cole partnership is one of the best. These 2 fella are best friends and even had a 3some together Irwin instead of Evra because he regularly gets the goals and also our penalty taker. Gary because of his partnership with Beckham on the right wing. Stam before Rio because I have more faith in him and Rio scores more OG than him |
