if you dont want to jailbreak your iphone and wanted to disable the data services, it is possible... just that it is a bit troublesome...

taught by someone is this forum also...

1) start up your iphone with non maxis SIM (digi, umobile, celcom)

2) once started, you should be able to go to the (General -> Network -> Celular Data Network). There is where u can key in 'disable' to disable the 3G/EDGE. But wait, don't key in yet with ur non-maxis card still inside.

3) Back to the page where u can still see Celular Data Network, right now, eject your SIM card and swap it with your Maxis SIM now. Once swap it in back, only tap the Celular Data Network.

4) If you previously have updated the Carrier Settings, now you will still be able to put in disable or some other words other than unet, maxis or wap. Once everything is key in, go back to your home screen. Time for testing. Test the Weather channel, Safari etc.. You will received the error, you are not subscribe to the celular data network service etc....

thanks to cool_alvin83 for teaching me this method, if not i sure will be crazy paying the data charges...

Hi everyone,

1st case:
I got a IP3G white, there are some question I would like to ask:

When I close Safari, or any other application which using data network, does it mean the data connection is stopped too? Cause I don want to bear any unnecessary data usage charges while in non-wifi network... (disabled 3G, wi-fi and roaming in Settings tab)

2nd case:
I discovered that I can only input the photos and videos from my PC to my IP3G but cant do the other way round... Is there a non-jailbreak application to enable files transfer from IP3G to PC?

Thank you.

Just receive email from my ever trusty source about in-house Maxis employee purchase program, a.k.a Maxis staff internal iPhone purchase.

1. 2 iPhones per employee.

2. For the first iPhone purchase, if opt to use salary deduction:-
- for 8GB iPhone 24 months salary deduction = RM75 , 12 months salary deduction = RM150, with both options totalling up to RM1800. Outright purchase is also available for RM1800.
- for 16GB iPhone 24 months salary deduction = RM92.50, 12 months salary deduction = RM185, with both options totalling up to RM2220. Outright purchase is also available for RM2220.

3. For the second iPhone purchase(remember, staff can buy 2 per person), purchase totals for both the 8GB and the 16GB iPhone increases to RM2300 and RM2700 respectively. For these second purchases, they are only available as upfront/outright purchase only, no monthly deductions.

4. Interestingly, Maxis marks the retail price of the 8GB and the 16GB iPhone as RM2540 and RM2960, respectively.

5. All iPhones purchased, even by their staff, are bonded with 1 year contract. Boo hiss! However, plans are not as per the currently available iValue Plans, they are as per the employee plan.

6. There are penalties imposed even for their employees if they leave Maxis before contract ends.

Payment Method: Outright Purchase
Penalty: if you leave Maxis before 12 months, the difference between staff price and *retail price will be recovered

Payment Method: Salary Deduction (12 mths contract)
Penalty: if you leave Maxis before 12 months, the balance cost at *retail price will be recovered

Payment Method: Salary Deduction (24 mths contract)
Penalty: if you leave Maxis before 12 months, the balance cost at *retail price will be recovered.
• If you leave after 12 months but before completion of salary deduction, actual balance will be recovered

Example 1:
• Outright Purchase of 8GB, leaves after 5th month before contract ends
Penalty = RM2540 – RM1800 = RM740

Example 2:
• Purchase 8GB for own use, opt for salary deduction (12 mths ) and leave after the 10th mth before contract ends
Penalty = RM2540 – RM1500 = RM1040

Example 3:
• Purchase 16GB for own use, opt for salary deduction (24 mths) and leave on the 20th mth after contract ends
Penalty = RM2220 – RM1850 = RM370

7. Details on how to sign up contains sensitive material, so I cannot include here.

Of course, all this is rendered uninteresting as we count down the days left till the announcement of the new iPhone next month.

new iPhone? You must be kidding, I just bought a new iphone white from maxis officially, Maxis just announce it on March, do you really think Maxis/other telco will be released iPhone '4G' after just released IP3G within 3 months?

IMO IP OS 3.0 is just a plain software upgrade(or a whole system upgrade) instead of hardware.

I bet the price of IP 4G(if it does come out) is a rip off despite its hardware upgrade(if got la)

Read here. Maxis is the slowpoke. Apple set their own release date and product roadmap. Maxis has nothing to do with producing the next iPhone, they are just the vendor. So if they are late in signing up with Apple as the approved telco, it is not Apple's fault that they are late in the product cycle, when everyone else else is already dumping the iPhone 3G en masse, and Maxis treating it like it is the next best thing since sliced bread.

Or maybe perhaps you are the slowpoke? The whole fiasco about Apple closing in on the new iPhone has already subsided, with general consensus already taken in the fact the new iPhone is impending, announcement next month, and launch probably in July.

Next time, read up, especially on Apple's product cycle on roadmap. Macrumor.com buyer's Guide is a good start. Dont come back crying here when the new iPhone launches less than 3 months after you have just bought yours. No point crying over spilt milk, or ripped wallets.

And oh, the price being a ripoff? Only in this forum. Sellers here take all the opportunities they can slaughtering the willing lambs around here. I slap them aside and take my own route. A lot others do the same as well, buying them AT RETAIL PRICE, NOT RIPOFF PRICES from Singapore and HK as well. There are ways to get these at reasonable price, in fact , much more reasonable than the Maxis' price.

Before the likes of stringfellow or nokia2003 come down on you like 10 ton bricks, let me just say this. Not that they are not right, mind you in doing so. In most instances they are.

I have been eyeing your posts and they have been somewhat tickling the nerves a little. But with this latest statement of yours, it just fortifies what was in my mind and that is you have not taken enough time to read the relevant threads even though you appear to be quite into the iPhone.

Your comments have been addressed, debated and even quarelled over, many folds, right here.

Anyway, if you don't bother, regrets later won't matter (new phrase I just coined for you and those who do not either).

But, enjoy your new toy, it's a great one. Cheers.

I did read about Apple's product cycle every year and hell yeah Maxis is the slowpoke(very slow given its position into Malaysia Telco industry). That is why all those hardware/software unlock thingy(quite problematic) comes in for those who cant get it on its early release.

I buy iphone for its quality, its application support instead of "the newest and the latest upgrade hype" as rumor indicated. For its price I paid for this phone, I expect I can use at least 3 years without a phone change. We all know Apple price is hefty, but it comes with quality. Why should I crying for not getting the latest although the next release is just 3-4 months from Maxis IP3G initial release? I like its color and design, but more importantly, I been attracted by its functions.

Yea you are right there are ways to get these at reasonable price, and you are damn right about Maxis IP3G supa expensive price that comes along with 1 or 2 year bond for its ivalues service. But there are something good about Maxis officially unlock IP3G, which is a "hassle free" alternatives (problem with after non-official unlocking, buying it from scammer etc) and this alternatives comes with a "price".

We both love iPhone, just only that the way we getting it is different.

@PeeEl

All posts I made, are meant for further confirm my purchase of iPhone for long term usage. No other meaning, sorry and no offense if it getting on your nerves though...

For "latest gadgets" chaser, they will be disappoint for certain point about Maxis's offer...

For ppl who buy it for quality and usefulness for long term usage, like me, will not regret with the cash spent.

FYI, I don't chase my gadgets. In retrospect, this iPhone has been the longest phone I've held onto in my history of using a cellphone, since last year July.

The fact is, there are a majority of us here that has gone through and make full use of our iPhones, and are more than ready for the next transition. The gripe I personally have are the whines and complaints from late adopters that either disbelief, refuse to believe, or even ridicule the notion of an impending new iPhone launch, just because they just got their Maxis iPhones recently. These are the annoyance. I sincerely hope you are not part of these annoyance, and seeing your reasonings, I know it is not the case.

Reward goes to the enlightened and the hardworking. Lust and wantings almost always leads to remorse and regrets later.

nah PeeEl, i will not bombard anyone in respect to this issue. because i believe, at the end of the day, speculations are still speculations. nothing is certain until apple releases a final statement. hence if it is true that there will not be a new release model in the next month, i'll open myself to humiliation and accept any criticism

however having said that, i would still like to mislead myself into believing that a new release is imminent

im lucky i got iphone arnd apple's initial release n wud be strictly following da product cycle n grab on the chance to upgrade when i can...
i agree thr are ppl who buy a phone and plan 2 stick with it for few years b4 the next change...tat is totally cool n understandable... but those who buy the iphone following the maxis launch n argue tat how can apple launch a new iphone when u just bought one, well u need 2 wake up n start reading n researching....

Im happy with my 16G SG set.
Dont really matter if Maxis were to bring in the "4G" sets and offer them at a slightly premium price or not, coz with the coming implementation of OS 3.0, I'm happy. Dont really need any hardware updates on my phone.. love it as it is.. Apps Store is the best.

Couldn't agree more. IP3G settled my heart for looking new phone every year... One of the strongest point of IP3G: Apple Store.

There's no contract tied to phone but if the employee leaves he/she has to pay some 'punitive' charges. Reminded me of the early years when I had to sign an agreement to stay with the organization for a certain period of time when they sent me overseas for a course which means if offered a more lucrative position, I could not move unless I was willing to cough up some 'compensation'.

but they said it's only for employee own usage. They will track them for this. If found they sell or let other ppl use then it's breach of contract.

Read. Why are they offering TWO units for staff purchase? Put both iPhones on each ears?

Maxis is in full panic mode. They want to sell off that 150,000 units they're allocated by Apple(to qualify as an Apple approved telco, initial shipment accepted MUST be at least 150,000). What would you do if you have 150,000 packets of maggi mee rotting in storage when the latest flavours is about to launch?
