This is not a about the myth. It's about their policy when they sell first unit to staffs.

They said specifically 1st unit purchased by staff must be used by staff. I am sure it's not easy for them to track such a thing but since it's in their terms and conditions, I do not want my friend to get into trouble if they really have a method to trace whether the staff is using the phone or not.

I think i'll go for idata plan. Seems more reasonable cause I don't have to change my plans. Hmm..diff between 24month contract and 12 months contract is RM300. Which one should I take??

Hey jind86..the 3G iPhone has the same spec, no diff. The only differences is the either the iPhone is lock or officially unlock.
*
besides spec wise, any other diff? like there's difference in terms of warranty also right? like if i get an iPhone from sg i wont be able to claim warranty here isnt it?

Correct. Warranty claim from the country you buy the iPhone from. Sadly, there's no Applecare for iPhone available here.

Apparently, the hype is high but the sales are low. They need to sell it much cheaper. RM2540 still is not appealing even it's no contract price.

I've heard from someone in Maxis that they've only sold 11,000 pcs, this is not up to the target they set about 100,000. Seems the `buzz` about the Iphone have died down with their truly ridiculous priced packages. And they will be revising their packages soon... to overcome the slow sales.. but this is yet to be confirmed

to honor their agreement with Apple and qualify as an Apple approved telco, Maxis are allocated with 150,000 units.

and the new iData & Prepaid Plans are announced few days back. smile.gif

i'm planning to subscribe for maxis ivalue and buy iphone from maxis, but before that i've got few questions that i'm not sure should i proceed to buy it, hope u guys can give some advices, btw i know little about iphone tongue.gif

1. maxis iphone works with celcom(my current telco) too, then why do i have to subscribe for maxis ivalue instead of subscribing celcom 3g plan and use with iphone? is it other telco 3g plans would make iphone less functional than with ivalue?

2. what is the difference between ivalue and idata?

3. i might be going to work in singapore after 6 months, so it is not worthy to sign for a 12-months contract. i could just buy iphone from local market and unlock it but i heard the unlocked iphone is bound to crash sooner than officially unlocked one. is it real?

i still cant make up my mind whether go for a maxis iphone or wait for other telco iphone or just buy one from local market...anyone has any suggestion?

1. If you wanna purchase an Maxis iPhone (which comes with warranty under Maxis), you'll have to sign up a plan with Maxis.

2.
iValue plans:
*please refer to first post of this thread or Maxis iPhone website

- Specific calls/SMS rates
- Specific free data usage
- Free calls (minutes)
- CANNOT be paired with any current Maxis plans (exist as a plan of its own)

iData plans:

- Ability to pair any current Maxis plans (Value Plus 50, 80, 150 etc.) with iData plan and purchase iPhone 3G at discounted price. (contract based, pay additional RM99 per month for 3GB data usage)

eg. let's say currently you're on Value Plus 50, so you will be paying RM50 + RM99 per month (for 12 or 24 months) and able to get 8GB/16GB iPhone 3G @ listed discounted prices.

3. There's no such thing as grey market iPhones (non-Maxis units) are bound to crash sooner.

Conclusion: This question has been discussed over & over again.

and i quote from nokia2003's post:

QUOTE(nokia2003 @ May 2 2009, 06:52 PM)
IMHO, there isn't much alternatives to ponder upon here actually; either get it from maxis or a parallel import unit (unless you are in a country where there is more than one exclusive network provider)

you don't have to be a genius to decide actually:

1. if your monthly average consumption is almost equivalent to one advertised, then go for the maxis bound unit.

2. if you are loathe the idea of having an iPhone without any warranty, then go for the maxis bound unit.

As mentioned, please keep to the topic of this thread and do not post anything regarding Singtel/Singtel plan as this thread is cater to Maxis 3G iPhone upcoming buyers and owners to provide valuable information. If you want to suggest anything else, do it via PM.

Anymore offtopic post from forumers will be deleted.

Thank you

Cheers

I am sure they are desperate to get rid of the 150,000 units that they have commited to apple. Since new iphone 4G is around the corner. However, I am sure they have a limit that they must maintain in terms of pricing. I am sure apple will not allow them to simply throw pricing to spoil the image of iphone's target on highend market.

I doubt there will be anymore "significant" price difference. Maybe slightly better plans offered with the phone. If you intend to get, the latest iplan seems to be quite reasonable. At least for people already using value plan 50 like me.

I believe the respective telcos in the countries where iPhones are available are left to their own devices to package them with their plans to meet their commitments to Apple. Just look at Japan....they resorted to giving away free iPhones as it was not popular or in demand there. Who knows, if you want to chance it and do not mind waiting, Maxis may, when the new version is lauched, just do likewise. Otherwise the likes of DiGi or Celcom may be appointed as well or in replacement, by Apple for the Malaysian market. Needless to say, Maxis does not want that to happen.

incorrect. the price of iPhones over here in Australia has been fluctuating (downwards trend of course).

with the rumours of a new model coming up, spreading like wild fire and coupled with a fierce competition between 3 (or rather 4) network providers, you can be sure that they are tentatively "simply throwing prices" as i quote your statement above.

sure, as i have a (bad) habit to call everyone whom i meet from forums, by their forum names despite knowing their real name.

OT a little, but this part is pretty relevant, in case, some maxis customers are tempted to do something like this in the future biggrin.gif

When I got my iPhone at Gardens Mid Valley Maxis center, I was directed to a corner where the service desk activation counter was. They will also help you to copy/sync contacts from your old WinMo or Symbian fone if you want to.

I am sure Maxis will not jailbreak for you, especially at it's center.
