That's taken and cropped from the software update page on Apple. Those New Yorkers are a lucky bunch eh. They even have departure times for public transport. I wonder if the information is updated real-time by the transport operators. Like you know, "The Train is here!" tongue.gif

Added on November 21, 2008, 5:44 pmBlackberry's new phone called Blackberry Storm is not an iPhone killer but it has an interesting feature that i wouldn't mind seeing in the next gen of iPhones:
I'm guessing some sort of flex-display like what was mentioned in a recent Apple iPod Stick rumor.

Imagine the cost of replacing such screen due to out of physical tolerance issue. Taps for trackpad clicking I can tolerate, but physically stressing the screen everytime I want to type an email, is not something I'm looking forward to.

Hi Guys,

Need some help!

iPhone Generation : 2G
Current Firmware : 2.1
iTunes Version : 8.0.1
Computer Platform : Vista
Jailbreaking software : QuickPWN
Problem Encountered : No Service

Steps Had Taken (list down) : It's my friend's iPhone which he bought from U.S. The Problem of No Service of this 2G iPhone first started after the iPhone fall from the chair while it was in his pocket. At that time the Firmware was 1.02. After that fall, the iPhone had very bad reception of signal (only 1 bar), then after a few days it only says No Service. I thought by updating the firmware to 2.1 (Update button in iTunes) would help but after updating to 2.1 (then Unlock & Jailbreak using iClarified method), the No Service is still there. I have tried 2 sim cards and I still get the same problem. For now, I guess its not the sim card as when I insert that same sim card to another phone, the signal strengh is full and I can make and receive calls. I can only assume that probably it's hardware related but thinking it was just a small fall, it shouldn't of have damage the iPhone.

Steps taken:
1. Turn on the airplane mode and turn it back off after a few seconds - result: I still get No Service
2. Restart iPhone - result: Maxis signal about 1/2 bar then after a few seconds, I get No Service.

There is this site [http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/archive/index.php/t-449182.html] that recommeds to use iBrickr but I am not sure if it's for firmware 2.1 based on the steps described there.

Anyone out there.. knows how to resolve this????

iPhone 2G but with firmware 1.02? Is that even possible?

@ravin d
I think u meant iPhone 1st gen right? U can't straight upgrade from 1.0.2 to 2.1. Need to virginized first then only upgrade.

Trust me its not hardware related. I've already open the phone and the antenna won't easily come off or koyak or brick just from a fall. I've dropped my phone before any the signal is strong as last time.

Maybe u didn't do the unlocking part correctly (presumably its the 1st gen iPhone ... which is still unlockable via software).

Sorry if any of my answer here didn't point into any solution for u to follow ... I'm just lazy today to think.

yep....2.1+cydia better than 2.2 alone. You know what i mean. There's more important apps in cydia than street view.

since you are new here, i will try to assist as much as i can.

to sum up everything, 2G (first generation) iphones need to be unlocked artificially using a software as they are tied to authorised networks respectively. therefore updating it to 2.1 using your itunes will lock it back again.

to unlock your 2.1 iphone, please read this thread created by davidgary73

also please close the thread created initially. thank you
