Hi all,

Is there any methods / programs to permanent set my fan speed to 100% all the time?

Short of taking the wire out and plugging into the PSU. (I can't do this because the fan connector is different from the usual one)

Also, if I use the normal Nvidia control panel, the fan speed seems to revert back to 40% everytime I restart my PC.

*Please note that I am using the Nvidia Geforce GTX285.

Thank you.

U can use EVGA precision tool or rivatuner as stated and set the settings to apply during windows startup....

well not to sure maybe driver but hmm from previous experience with hd4870, 3870 etc etc
every ati fanboy always says this driver driver driver.. sishh.

but testing on latest games last remnant, hawx, cod 5,

4890 1gb crossfire at 950/2000 1920x1200 8X AA DX10.1/DX10 everything maxed out
average is 74fps max 210fps
gtx285 sli 720/1650/1390 1920x1200 8x AA DX10 everything maxed out
average is 95-100fps ( it changes for some reason) max 350..

the problem with hd4890 it is..
to my opinion to compare with gtx285 is like comparing a very fast dual core with a quad core..
thanks to its gddr5

driver still buggy like vsync cannot work yet.

one thing thats interesting..
previous hd4000 core overclocking not much benefit as mem overclocking
but hd4890 core overclocking gives a lot of benefit .. more than mem..
wonder what changed.

but looking at where gtaiv is heading..
we need 2gb of gc mem.. for max view distance.

all tested on a i7 4.2ghz 2000mhz CL7 Games on Veloci Raid 0, OS on M-X25

also i find a lot of review of hd4890 is still based on past games or unreal engine..

y nobody dares to try lost planet : extreme condition??
tom hardware uses only
assasin creed ( not that intensive)
crysis ( not even warhead)
cod 4
unreal 3

new hardware my opinion should be based on

hawx,
cod 5,
crysis warhead
lost planet: colonies
last remnant
gtaiv
far cry 2

also weird is this
usually by now i will be able to by the gtx275
but until now no vendor, distro etc even has it

well, but i see ure using the only ac extreme gpu cooler in malaysia right? laugh.gif well this is just my 2 cents, i never really seen a real ac extreme yet.
but i would guess the fan on it must be pwn fan, unless it has on board pwn control, then that would make things more easier.

for pwn fan, there should be 4 wires, black, yellow (or red), green, blue.

black = ground
yellow = 12v, red = 5v; (but i guess its 12v for all fans lah)
green = sense (rpm reading)
blue = control (pwm control)

so if u want constant speed i guess you;ll just have to connect only the yellow and the black to the 12v and ground of your psu cable. well. i only tried that out on normal pwm fan. im not sure how ac extreme fans are like.

(btw from my knowledge of pwm control, i think there should be a value on the control voltage so that the modulation could produce maximum duty cycle. but after googling around it seems like direct connection of the 12V and the Ground to the fan would make it run full speed)

on the other hand, if the fan is controlled by the on board pwm control, then there should be just 2 wires on the fan only. either it should be black or red/yellow.
the black wire should always be ground, then the other one (red or yellow) should be the vcc of the fan, either 5v or 12v, but i think it should be 12v.

but its just theory of mine (regarding the onboard pwm control). you can go google if you want to be sure.

plus, there are molex converters for fan pins/connectors. im not sure where to get it but you can try asking allngp if he has those kind of converters or not.

hope it helps, gluck.

pps; i could be wrong altogether, again, i never knew the schemetics of the fan of an ac extreme cooler.

will a PSU 550 be enough for a gtx 285 (Zotac)?

Considering I have:
1 creative sound card,
2 DVD roms,
4 gig mem,
1 HDD, (portable HDD, 1 USB used as memory boost) is connected to my monitor, and monitor has its on PSU i suppose since it's connected straight to the electrical output
some fans and of course mobo and CPU.

Thanks for offering this advice.

I doubt I can do this without endangering my cooler because I am not familiar with it as well. Plus I won't have that much time to do this during the weekends.

I will use the Rivatuner once I am at home which would be around 9 to 9:30 pm.

I have tried running 100% fanspeed earlier this morning and it was still silent enough plus the idle temperature was about 34-36 celsius compared to 38 celsuis running @ 40% fanspeed.

I believe it is more than enuf just for movies.... Anyway, u dun actually require a hdmi output video card... U can buy a DVI-HDMI cable which directly plugs from ur video card to ur LCD TV since DVI and HDMI is the same anyway.... The onli difference is HDMI carries sound and DVI doesn't....

sorry for troubling you again, is there any extra things i need to download in order to play 1080p movies ?
in nvidia's website i read about Nvidia purevideo HD.

is the 7600GS that i have within the list of HDCP cards ? i tried to get a list but i cannot find any as my model is outdated. is there a driver or a software that i need to install in order to run my 7600GS smoothly to play 1080p videos ?
