wow, seems like my last post in the old thread regarding 55nm ociblility provoked a debate and discussion that results a new thread and its in page 5 already! tongue.gif jk

back to topic, well, technically thinking i thought 55nm would be more efficient than the 65nm, but after reading from here seems like most 65nm (for nvidia case) seems to oc better than the 55nm.

and as for the heatsink/heatpipe/backplate thing with the 260, is it just with 260 only or the same reduce of heatsink/heatpipe/backplate issue with the 280 and 285?

thanks!

btw there's no way we could control the gpu fan speed in bios right? in the end i'll have to rely on software to do that right? so currently which is the best / stable software to control my gpu fan speed? kinda feel that my card is hot! (still not used to temp more than 70 to 80C for a card, even my mobo and cpu temp rise when gaming. all exhaust fan are pushing out hot air, casing is so hot i feel like sitting beside a radiator or something. tongue.gif )

btw AC accelero extream is out already right? brows.gif

redownload??hmm..will do.right away!!

owh sry bout that.typo plak. =.="

btw bro,ur using palit gtx285 also? didnt have any trouble installing the driver is it? how bout OC? care to share a bit?  sweat.gif thx..
*

haha, i havent even really used the card for a week, im currently in kampar, my rig is in johore. but i dont think i'll oc it yet, the card runs hot for me, i mean, i know 80C is normal for these kinda gpu but its still too hot for me tongue.gif btw my driver works fine for me. (previously i was using 8600gt, which was using the same driver as my gtx285, well i decided to uninstall and reinstall it anyway when i got my 285; what i did was, i uninstall nvidia physx, uninstall nvidia drivers, restart, go safe mode, delete the remaining nvidia folder, uninstall display drivers (in device manager), restart, install the latest drivers, restart)
ah, and oh ya, i didnt even install the bundled software that came with the box, i think its some palit software or something, never really bothered what's inside that cd. biggrin.gif

No one knows why my card is making an awful lot of noise?
*
lol, i didnt know ferrite chokes could make screeching sound, when i go back i'll try to listen if my mobo would make screech sounds too or not since my mobo has a few of them. btw, could it be your fan spinning up when u stress/game on it?

added: at first i thought my card was noisy too but turns out its my cpu pull-fan which spins up cuz its connected to my mobo pwm connector. (nb is very near to gpu so its affected by the gpu temp too!)

3rd party coolers look promising but i've read that some still claim stock reference is better since it exhaust hot air out of the case instead. btw im refering to the dual slot nvidia reference cooler. can anyone share their experience on this? let's say, like gtx285 reference cooler compared to the AC accelero extreme 280? thankyou thankyou!

back to the topic..
anyone know how to remove reference cooler from my gtx260+?
i tried to remove all the screw..but cannot take it up lor  rclxub.gif
*

well i think u'll have to apply some force cuz sometimes the thermal paste kinda hardens and stick together.

QUOTE(AceCombat @ Mar 27 2009, 06:25 PM)
Bro,dont set like that, put ur sound card to last line of the PCI,cause the PCB and the back memory chip of 285 generate a lot of heat, better dont put on top of it.

It's not even on sales yet,now bro kianweic is the only user in Malaysia smile.gif
*

wow. no wonder. so that makes u the first person in malaysia to own it. somehow u got it from overseas or someone sent it to u to do review or?

btw ya, gtx285 generate a hell lot of heat. my northbridge temp is very affected by it.

btw, out of topic; acecombat is a gal?

Any other GTX 285 user here without any issue?
*

well, mine is fine so far. i game more than 10 hours everyday. so far no prob except its hot cuz i never set any fanspeed or whatsoever, auto fan speed at idle 40%, during load i dont think it even reaches 90%, maybe that's why its hot.

QUOTE(kianweic @ Apr 2 2009, 08:19 AM)
Hi all,

Is there any methods / programs to permanent set my fan speed to 100% all the time?

Short of taking the wire out and plugging into the PSU. (I can't do this because the fan connector is different from the usual one)

Also, if I use the normal Nvidia control panel, the fan speed seems to revert back to 40% everytime I restart my PC.

*Please note that I am using the Nvidia Geforce GTX285.

Thank you.
*

well, but i see ure using the only ac extreme gpu cooler in malaysia right? laugh.gif well this is just my 2 cents, i never really seen a real ac extreme yet.
but i would guess the fan on it must be pwn fan, unless it has on board pwn control, then that would make things more easier.

for pwn fan, there should be 4 wires, black, yellow (or red), green, blue.

black = ground
yellow = 12v, red = 5v; (but i guess its 12v for all fans lah)
green = sense (rpm reading)
blue = control (pwm control)

so if u want constant speed i guess you;ll just have to connect only the yellow and the black to the 12v and ground of your psu cable. well. i only tried that out on normal pwm fan. im not sure how ac extreme fans are like.

(btw from my knowledge of pwm control, i think there should be a value on the control voltage so that the modulation could produce maximum duty cycle. but after googling around it seems like direct connection of the 12V and the Ground to the fan would make it run full speed)

on the other hand, if the fan is controlled by the on board pwm control, then there should be just 2 wires on the fan only. either it should be black or red/yellow.
the black wire should always be ground, then the other one (red or yellow) should be the vcc of the fan, either 5v or 12v, but i think it should be 12v.

but its just theory of mine (regarding the onboard pwm control). you can go google if you want to be sure.

plus, there are molex converters for fan pins/connectors. im not sure where to get it but you can try asking allngp if he has those kind of converters or not.

hope it helps, gluck.

pps; i could be wrong altogether, again, i never knew the schemetics of the fan of an ac extreme cooler.

I have tried running the fan 100% all the time for my Geforce GTX285 with Artic Cooling Accelero Extreme.

While playing GTA4, the temperature was like 45c-46c during load.

When idle, the temperature was about 34-36c.

Even at full speed, the sound of my air purifier exceeds this .

Definitely a highly recommended cooler.
*

but i dont think we could get it anywhere yet here in malaysia, since ure the only one with it. unless im too outdated to notice any threads selling them (my wifi driver died on me last week and im cutoff from the internet world T_T)

well, i notice for some of my games, i couldnt even set AA when im running at 1920x1080.

Hey all, according to Physics, hot air rise up to the top right?

So is it normal if my casing's top can evaporate water?

I found out my PSU is emitting a lot of heat.
*
well, wet tissues and wet cloths (kain kasar) do dried up and become "crispy" on top of my casing. but i've got a top 120mm blowhole.

guys im tyring out the 185.66 beta driver. im using gtx285 on a vista 64bit with samsung 2233sw native resolution of 1920x1080.

the problem is there will be for black bars around my screen if i run at native resolution. i tried setting other resolutions and everything appears fullscreen, but just the 1920x1080 resolution where my screen will become smaller with 4 black bars around. what could be the problem? or maybe i should just change back to stable driver... cry.gif

thanks to everyone, yup i do know my lcd supports 16:9 resolution, in fact, its native is in 16:9 ratio and i've been running at 1920x1080 fine all these time till now.

about updating drivers, i do know what to do when updating drivers. i do know about the scaling too. but no matter what i try, either it be nvidia scalling, or my lcd scalling, or scalling off, or whatever settings i tried, my screen will always be scalled down with 4 black bars on the side whenever i run at 1920x1080. only this reso where my screen will be scaled down; wherelse all other reso my screen would run fullscreen back fine.

i do not face this prob for any beta or whql drivers before this, i guess the new beta driver still have profile prob with my lcd then. if i couldnt solve this then maybe i should revert back to the the 182 whql drivers. just wanna try out 185 beta drivers to see how the ambient occlusion feature works. hopefully nvidia would release the 185 whql soon.

anyway thanks to all again.

im using this driver on 2233sw as well.after i update it i got black bars around also.here's how to solve it

go into nvidia control panel,at side panel, choose resize HDTV desktop, select resize my desktop, then click it.drag the bars until ure satisfied and then ur done.after tht jz leave it as it be or u can select bck do not resize my desktop.

btw i find nvidia system tools vry nice for oc-ing the gc as well.after u set ur desired clock got message come out asking u wheter wanna load the saved setting at windows startup.whats makes it better thn rivatuner (IMO) is evrytime windows start up and load no UAC message to click unlike rivatuner  tongue.gif
*

aiya.. the only thing i didnt go try is go drag the black bar... i now change back to 182.50 already. nvmlar. i'll wait till a whql driver is out aledi lar. lazy to change driver again.

i know what u meant, i played with it last time. but i never even think about it when i had the problem just now. it'll have horizontal and vertical scroll bar for us to adjust the width and the height of the screen right? biggrin.gif

if i set my fan to auto, during gaming it always hit 80c and above. so evertime i game i'll have to manually go to ntune and set it to 100%. so is there any programmable flash where i could set the fan to run 100% whenever it reach a threshold temp and back to normal when its below that temp? (oh wait. i found nvidia bios editor, will try out first) thanks.

added: but wait. would flashing bios void my warranty right? and i should be able to flash back to original bios right incase things go wrong? and flashing bios should be an easy process like flashing handphone bios right? right? sweat.gif
