i didnt unplug my the other seagate hdd and the hdd i updated is on esata connection...when update..make sure u choose the correct disk then it will tell u the other hdd is not seagate product and update the model u choose.

then the update will roughly take 1-2 mins and then it will power off ur pc...just wait a while (make sure u unplug all the power source to ur pc) and then on back ur pc...u will see windows detecting new drive and dang dang dang...ur hdd now is with new firmware!..

u are not supposed to copy that way
the iso file is an image file, u are supposed to burn the image (not just copy the file) to your CD, or in some other ways, to ur floppy or USB to make them bootable

and no, it won't reformat the HDD, the data will remain intact

He is using external hdd, so need to unplug power cable, or just switch off and on the external hdd. If use internal hdd, the pc will turn off after update completed, just turn on pc again afterward.

The BIOS will probably detect the USB controller and not the HDD. I'm not sure which the firmware will detect, but come on, is it really that hard to open the casing and plugging some cables?

Just to remind, the correct procedure to flash:

(1) Burn ISO to a disc.
(2) Unplug non-related HDD drives from ur system and leave only the target drive and the CD/DVD drive which needs to boot up the CD.
(3) Set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD
(4) CD boots up, read the text, press F10.
(5) Press A,B,C depends on which model.
(6) Press any key to shutdown the PC.
(7) Now, this step i see most people didn't do. The 'CYCLE POWER' thingy.
- switch off ur main power switch.
- unplug the PC power.
- Press and HOLD the power button for 10 seconds.
(8) Plug in ur power supply.
(9) Power on main switch.

I believe the reason for step (7) is to clear off some static electric still remains in the mobo/hdd or something like that. Better safe than sorry.

is it possible for me to save/burn it into a thumbdrive n use it instead of disc? sweat.gif
