Seagate has promised to issue a fix for the latest Barracuda bricking fault within 24 hours.

This will be firmware to fix the firmware (SD1A) that was issued to fix the firmware (SD15) that caused some 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 drives and others to stop working. The SD1A firmware caused 500GB Barracuda 7200.11s to stop working.

In all cases Seagate assures its customers that none of their data on the drive should be lost as the firmware faults render the drives inaccessible but doesn't cause corrupted data on the drive.

Seagate says that: "This firmware upgrade will be available on the Seagate website within 24 hours"

It adds that: "Seagate is working with customers to expedite a remedy."

interesting blog...by maxtorman (seagate insider I guess)

"*ONLY* if the drive is powered down having just written the 320th log file. After Log file #320, it rolls back around and overwrites log file #1. So, on Log files 1-319, you're okay. only in the case that it has just written Log #320 AND is power cycled, will it lock up. If it is on #319 or rolled around to #1, then it's fine. one in a million chance. "

hmm.. so it's a time bomb then..

-Hmm, any drive owner with -568 Product Code and/or SD35 firmware have any problem(s) with the HDD? Mind to share?

-Also, anyone who bought from AllnGap and faced a problem & RMA'ed the HDD already, please share too. Not try to ruin his sale, only want to know.
If there's no case (beside mine  sad.gif  ), then maybe his batch could be safe.

-FYI, my HDD is ST31000340AS with 9BX158-568 Product Code and SD35 firmware.
Regards.

I'm also buying from AllnGap 1TB ST31000340AS, SD15... So far no problem since December... But, still hope for the new firmware from Seagate to prevent my hard disk failure also... sad.gif

Wow new tactics for counting the power cycle... this is well known on notebook battery but i never know it will implement in the hdd as well... i think this is the only way they can kill the hdd so that business is keep coming in!!! damn cheater!...

By the way.... i already flashed mine to the SD1A! will the counter still running? damn scary.... but for performance wise... the SD1A really feel a lot better, it acts like a normal fast hdd again not like the damn SD15 that getting worse and worse the performance.... curse seagate!!!!
