bro, my HDD was returned b'coz the sata cable was burnt, not bcoz of this firmware issue.
right now, it has been working succesfully for the first 6 hours. biggrin.gif
however, still dunno what my HDD's fate will be tomorrow, day after tomorow, next month.... mad.gif

will keep you guys updated.

anyway, how to check the firmware version?
what should i do now? only back-up all the data? update the firmware?
pls advise, thanks!

I always believe in WD for their reliable HDD. This is always the smarter choice for me. Many of my friends' Seagate HDD will spoiled after few months. Besides, Seagate sounds not so high tech. That was my first impression when buying my first HDD when I was a noob.

I'm also buying from AllnGap 1TB ST31000340AS, SD15... So far no problem since December... But, still hope for the new firmware from Seagate to prevent my hard disk failure also... sad.gif

QUOTE
New Seagate Firmware Turns Sour, Dangerous
You might want to think again before flashing your Seagate hard drive with whatever firmware the company provides as a 'fix' to pending firmware issues with some of its Barracuda 7200.11 series hard drives. The latest firmware by the company, version SD1A turned many hard drives to paperweights. After flashing the drives with the new firmware, users reported receiving disk failure messages, and systems not being able to access - let alone boot from - the drives. Users claimed to have lost data and backups stored on the hard drive, since the drive is rendered inaccessible from any machine.
Supposedly issuing firmware updates that just masked obvious bugs and problems (to avoid publicity),
and now this from Seagate whistling.gif

so every body just stay away from this...user posted image

I jz bought the 500gb one last 2 weeks ago sad.gif So far bios still detecting it BUT there are some problems which I'm not sure whether its caused by my HDD.

1. My CM Elite 334 Casing the HDD LIGHT won't light up,no blink or anything,I thought its the casing's problem but now...im not sure.. (Checked mobo manual all the wiring are correct..)

2. Sometimes (20%) that when I power up my PC reach the XP WELCOME screen, jammed there. Mouse can move but I have to press the Reset button and let it boot up again..Thought it was not enough power from my PSU but now...

My Rig is:
Intel Core2Quad Extreme QX6800
2x2gb DDR-800 RAM
Sapphire HD4850 512MB
500GB Seagate
LG DVD-rw
Core Contact Freezer
Cooler Master Extreme 550w

enought power anot?

Other than that x ada problems... please please people enlighten me! Just spend almost all my saving on getting this new rig =(

-Hmm, that problem could be caused by other factors (e.g. conflicting software); I've experienced it before - in my case it's WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) service hangs when attempting to start.

-To investigate, review your Event Viewer: right-click My Computer, select Manage; after Computer Management appears, go to System Tools>Event Viewer>System. Find any event(s) with warning or error (yellow exclamation mark or red "X" mark).
