so far Seagate has not came up with any solution doh.gif
anyway, if something goes wrong, it wouldn't be your fault right? it's like, you set up properly for them and all, but it's the hardware problem, not because of your negligence

RAID 10. so these things happen on random ? or do they have a "timer"?

the bricking feature happen during your power on state. you can test that feature if you want.

No guarantee. It could die the next time u plug it back in.

My advise...don't do anything or flash anything until there's further notice of new firmware and sees what happens...

It'll be ironic if we are trying to avoid a brick, but in the quest to prevent the brick, we actually bricked it. doh.gif

Stay cool....

-Hmm, any drive owner with -568 Product Code and/or SD35 firmware have any problem(s) with the HDD? Mind to share?

-Also, anyone who bought from AllnGap and faced a problem & RMA'ed the HDD already, please share too. Not try to ruin his sale, only want to know.
If there's no case (beside mine sad.gif ), then maybe his batch could be safe.

-FYI, my HDD is ST31000340AS with 9BX158-568 Product Code and SD35 firmware.

Regards.

@dokidoki,

-Yes, my firmware isn't listed, but my model is. I already contacted them (through Submit a Case) last Saturday, but still no reply yet.

-And I'm skeptical that the article actually states incomplete list of affected firmware. On MSFN forum, there's a HDD with -568 & SD81 failed already.

So far I have tested 2 of my 4 harddisk. They all have the same model number and same firmware revision. However, when querying by serial number it shows that 1 out of 2 is affected. Well, just wait and see I suppose, even though more information, transparency and hopefully a Weibull plot from Seagate would have let a lot of us sleep better.

The important thing is critical data should be backed up on another hard disk, or better yet, add an offline optical storage to the mix

before anything happens, just back up everything, it doesn't matter in a newly bought HDD, blank DVDs or whatsoever as data are more precious than the HDD itself. For me, I would rather buy a new HDD and do backup than to go to a data recovery center to do it >_<

Imagine the cost off a new HDD compared to the data recovery center
