It really depends on you, whether you're really committed or not coz a fast track degree is sort of like an intensive course, which in your case they cram everything into a two-years course. If you're the kind that don't fool around all the time, then u could try it out. But do bear in mind that your holidays will be compromised as well, meaning u might have to study even during the holidays.

I'm currently doing a 3.5years one and based on what I'm learning right now, rushing to finish my degree would not be a good idea. There's a lot to learn and if there's no holidays, i'll die lol..

Besides, y would you want to do a fast track degree? It might help financially, but i dont think it'll do any good to your uni life. You might have less time to spend with your friends since you'll be studying and doing assignments most of the time(i think u would?).

You will be overwhelmed. Besides, if it is allowed, you will be having a lot of trouble adjusting the timetables for both classes and exam.

Yeah i dont think its advisable.. tell you a comment my boss made.. i worked in bio related industry..

once when we had an interview to recruit people, there was an applicant who got masters from diploma in 4 years... my boss straight away give negative comments about the applicant.. the applicant jump from diploma to degree in3 yrs and added an extra year then got a masters through some private uni arangement.. he said that how can u trust a 1 yr master.. ppl take at least 2 yrs for masters... research field requires experience and nobody gonna trust a shallow experience masters or phd

But i thought most of the MAsters in UK are only one year programme. Even University of Cambridge offers 1 year Masters program

IMHO, if u r doing science (any field). u must be aware of the latest trend in the scientific world. Like what is hot and new (green technologies, patent agent). It is a hot thing in US and I think sooner or later it will hit Malaysia too mb except for the patent agent. Going into this area might be a good idea now.

The reason why we all ended up unemployed or under paid is because we didnt know what might happen 4years after we enrolled. Living in denial for the past 2 years, now only I realized the importance of keeping oneself up dated and down to earth. Haiz....

yes, i agree with you... in future anything will happen. Bacteria and viruses always mutate. So does diseases and everything. But those shouldn't stop us from upgrading. Science is alwas changing... so does mankind.

So i dont see unemployment as a reason not to pursue this field.. unemployed here? go overseas.. they are waiting for in with arm wide open!

n_n have you graduated?

Yeah singapore is hiring biomed ppl, otherwise can always go into biotech sales, the pay can be high. Even higher if u go into Pharmaceutical sales rep.

If u r into research, get your master from Monash Sunway and then apply for scholarship for PhD in Australia Unis.

However, all in all.. it was fun in a way coz you get to learn new things such as how to draw blood in sem 2.. and the port dickson trip on sem 1. This course is very practical based. So be ready to type a lot of reports...What i mean ALOT is ALOT.. lol..

Feel free to find me anytime...!

For ALL biomedical students here, I highly recommend a book that will deliver you from your confusion during your studies:

Medical Laboratory Science: Theory & Practice

Authors: Ochei J , Kolhatkar A

user posted image

- It contains all the subjects for MLT. Detailed explanation on the laboratory procedures.
- It covers : Hematology, Blood banking Biochemistry, Microbiology, Virology, Parasitology, Histology, Histopathology, etc
- Its very useful as a guide/reference for laboratory reports and assignment.
- Its a MUST for any biomedical science student.

I Quote:
QUOTE
Written in simple language, this book reflects the tremendous developments in the field of medical laboratory sciences in recent years.

The book is divided into six sections. Each section is further comprehensively divided into chapters covering introduction to the section, basic principles and procedures of various scientific experiments and diagnostic tests, clinical significance of tests and the reporting and interpretation of test results. Balanced presentation of mathematical and physical aspects;

Details the various new versions of reagent packaging; Each experiment ends with a sound clinical interpretation of test results - unique to the book ;

Emphasises the theoretical aspects of various tests ; Profusely illustrated with figures [515 figures including over 60 photographs] and tables to simplify and further render the topics discussed easily comprehensible ; Includes a chapter on 'Small Laboratory Animals' - unique to the book.

I have been using this book since 2004 and I highly recommend it, I am still using it now for my MBBS studies.

You can get it from MPH.

You should read this thread from the beginning if you wanted to know, someone argued that Biomedical student could not study MBBS/MD after graduation.... suffice to say... I proved her wrong.... brows.gif

by the way, I got my BSc.Biomedicine (Hons) from MSU, and continuing my MBBS in India:

http://ims.msu.edu.my/
http://www.msrmc.ac.in/

... I, once again recommend that book for all biomedical students. Get it ~!!
