This topic was started by me... but some serious conflicts causes alot of people to neglect it. However, I am restarting another similar topic so that people taking or interested in taking this course regardles of whatever uni, public or private is free to hang out here..

Please.. for private "flaming" PM me instead. I want to keep this site clean and free so that people feel comfortable in disgussing stuff over here.

Final note... enjoy yourself here...

ANd happy fellowshiping~

I'm also one of Biomedical Science students. Anyone who wish to discuss anything, feel free to do so but please refrain from hurling abuses. We don't like that.  smile.gif

graduates are welcome too....

The sake of this thread is to get biomed people together regardless of uni to form a mini community where we can exchange experience and all.

Medicine has.. why not us?

me myself, i am a biomed student from imu. proceeding to 2nd semester soon.. *Now personal flaming please PM me*

my module covers from histology, physiology, toxicology and many more.

Types of modules varies from uni to uni

Yes, I agree what some graduates does in future does not have connection with this course at all... However, i strongly believe that this is due to individual.. What the individual think and what local community think. Hence, this thread was set up so that us, the biomed students will clear these doubts of the recent local community.

What I want to do after this degree is to get a master oversea and work hard and does research on cancer.. oversea

I agree this is not a sought after course locally, but i believe someday a change is gonna happen. If we work hard enough.

i think the point about future biomed future goes to all bio students as i have heard a lot of people working in a different field other than that of what they study.
individual thinking is the main reason as there are many jobs out there for us bio students but maybe the "job" isn't what they think it would be and the pay offered isn't high enough.
me i personally think that going into this field is not about how much you earn but what you are doing for a living. I personally enjoy biology so working with anything to do with bio is just great for me.
Lets hope the US company that is said to open a company in Penang year 2011 accepts as many bio students as possible~
*
yes i agree with you.. y i pursue tis field is due to personal interest not the greed for high pay. If you love your job..it can take you anywhere you wan.. rclxm9.gif

Hi. I just finished my SPM. I am seriously interested in this course. Can you please tell me more what this course is about? What are the future careers this course will lead to?
*
Yea...biomed is more to research base and lab work.. However make sure that you love bio and lab to pursue it.

But in order to get good career, you need to further it. Getting the degree itself only secure you as a lab assistant.

You can branch out to research, forensic, lecturer and many more actually.

People might tell you you wont get high pay and all...

BUt, if you really love bio...that shouldnt be a problem

like i say for private flaming please PM me instead... For your info... Biotech and biomed work hand in hand in a way. In future research, we might need each other. So what for calling each other course useless?

I am much also as enthusiastic talking about biotech as biomed... why..

For the love for Biology and research

kind of agree but because of ppl like us who leaves to other countries looking for a better future and facilities that the bio field in Malaysia is kind of low in standards.

I my self plan to stay in Malaysia to gain some experience 1st than move to other countries. wanted to go to singapore but its too close to Malaysia already so I also plan to go to Australia maybe after 2-3 years of working experience and maybe after i got my masters in some local uni.
*
Yes, too close to Malaysia..especially me staying in Johor Bahru...

im not saying biomed useless.. but all bio-course useless in my last post..but juz jokig..hehe.. but definitely u will not make alot of money in this field unless u go into business with it...so think wat kind of life u want...
*
I dont plan to earn alot of money. just want to do some stuff i love to do..

sorry to have misunderstood....

QUOTE(EvanSoon @ Jan 5 2009, 07:26 PM)
actually from my understanding after studying bio, no matter its biomed, biotech, bioinfo, pure bio and so on, you could work in the same field as each other and if you work in a different field, the things would be just slightly different.

intro you guys to a new bio field in Malaysia that i'm studying..
Medical Information Technology
*
wow... what is it about? what are you studying about and where?

i'm studying in MMU melaka..
seems that some doctors got bored of being a doctor and went for IT..
they than combined this 2 fields and brought in this subject that is also known in other countries like japan and germany.
we study everything about bio like biochem, pathology, microbiology, genetics, anatomy, and pharmacology inclusive of computer programming, data structure, database, digital image processing and so on..
but the things that we learn are not that deep like what biomed, biochem or biotech is studying..
the range of future work is pretty wide but as we study a lot of basics the position for a the job wont be high..
*
cool~ so you graduated already?

QUOTE(f4tE @ Jan 5 2009, 07:35 PM)
now usually ppl will say 1 2 do for the love and stuff like dat..but when u really get out into the world, the only thing that matters is money...just curoius, what is it about the field that interests u so much?
*
haha.... you did say usually but not all right.. there are ppl who does things they love....

I wanted to be a doctor.. had been my childhood dream.. however.. my results aint good.. so i decided to take biomed first and see how it goes. I grow to love it... and the opportunity it has given me... thats all

this kind of thing what's important is strategy and planning. you cannot go up to your boss with only a degree and say. hey i want high pay...~ what about all those with PhD... the company bankrupt wor!
