Juz an advice....If u think u will read the book then it will prove its worth but If u got no time to read those, then it might be a waste of money....
Any u go for few lectures and see whether u really need them...
For me, I don't think we need it for 1st sem...but marieb would be useful in the future....
PS: shoot....I still haven't really read thru those books properly...
Added on May 3, 2009, 3:02 pmP/S: would be useful when u write ur practical reports...hehe

QUOTE(Kurogane88 @ May 2 2009, 10:43 PM) Well....I am studying Biomedical Science in IMU, and I am one of the 1st batch biomedical science students .... I juz finished semester 2 and I am studying for my end of sem exam as I am speaking now...(so many to study....GRR ). Wow..medicine as ur 1st choice! cool! which uni u choose for medicine in ur 1st choice? Well,hope u can get what u want... Well, the requirement for biomedical science in IMU is CCC ( I got B B B- to get in ) and as u can see, based on my cgpa, I won't stand a chance AT ALL getting my this course in public U but thank God I am studying this course in IMU. I admit that I am not a smart or good student but I am still trying my best to work hard to go through my three year course in IMU and hope that I can be successful someday in my life in the future. But anyway, I believe u got confidence in urself since u put medicine as 1st choice in IPTA...so let's just see what happend next....anyway nice to meet u and may u get what u want... Oh, I put UKM, UPM, UNIMAS and UMS as my choices for medicine.. Best chance I see is I get into one of the east Malaysia unis la.. U know how hard to competition is around here.. I also applied USM, the interview results will be out on tuesday, super nervous, dunno i'll get or not.. Oh, IMU.. Yea, heard that they opened up a few new courses in that area.. Oh well, if I were to choose biomedicine guess I'll take up the NUS offer.. Thx for ur help again..

QUOTE(XtasyM @ May 3 2009, 02:04 PM) Am i late for the thread? =.= Somehow i missed it long time ago i guess. Im going 3rd year in biomedical sciences. If you are late, then a Biomedical graduate like me is considered what then? Anyway, for reference book, I quote my previous post, For ALL biomedical students here, I highly recommend a book that will deliver you from your confusion during your studies: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE Medical Laboratory Science: Theory & Practice Authors: Ochei J , Kolhatkar A - It contains all the subjects for MLT. Detailed explanation on the laboratory procedures. - It covers : Hematology, Blood banking Biochemistry, Microbiology, Virology, Parasitology, Histology, Histopathology, etc - Its very useful as a guide/reference for laboratory reports and assignment. - Its a MUST for any biomedical science student.
I Quote: QUOTE Written in simple language, this book reflects the tremendous developments in the field of medical laboratory sciences in recent years.
The book is divided into six sections. Each section is further comprehensively divided into chapters covering introduction to the section, basic principles and procedures of various scientific experiments and diagnostic tests, clinical significance of tests and the reporting and interpretation of test results. Balanced presentation of mathematical and physical aspects;
Details the various new versions of reagent packaging; Each experiment ends with a sound clinical interpretation of test results - unique to the book ;
Emphasises the theoretical aspects of various tests ; Profusely illustrated with figures [515 figures including over 60 photographs] and tables to simplify and further render the topics discussed easily comprehensible ; Includes a chapter on 'Small Laboratory Animals' - unique to the book. I have been using this book since 2004 and I highly recommend it, I am still using it now for my MBBS studies. You can get it from MPH.http://www.mph.com.my/search/nsearch.cfm?d...code=007463223XHeed my advice O'biomedical students.... Get it~!

It is like the intercourse between East and West, which can produce new thing~~ Can implement the theory of west in east and vice versa Can use both advantage to replace both weakness~

QUOTE(Kurogane88 @ May 3 2009, 05:42 PM) Can tell me something bout the life in MSU?? MSU is in Section 13,Shah Alam. Near the Shah Alam Stadium. As of now, the main campus is being relocated to a new site within the same section (see below). Currently the main campus is sharing with PTPL Shah Alam. http://www.msu.edu.my/v6/campus_progress_photos.phpLife in MSU...? I'm not sure where to start... hmm... lets see.. here are some bits and pieces of what I did/experienced there: - The BSc.Biomedicine program started since 2003.
- Shah Alam is somewhat a family-oriented city. Its a calm and nice city to settle down. There is absolutely no pubs/bars/disco there. 24-hours Mamak restaurants/Bistro are abundant though, especially in areas dominated by students (section 13, section 7, section 8 etc).
- There are many residential houses and apartments within walking distance to the campus. Giant supermarket is also within walking distance. The Shah Alam stadium and Shah Alam Skatepark is just around the corner (Burger King and Pizza Hut restaurant is located in the Skatepark) - see below:
http://www.skatemalaysia.com/ShahAlamXPark.html
- The current campus is rather small (pending the completion of the new campus). Some theory classes were conducted through out section 13 (I was beginning to think that MSU and PTPL is going to dominate the section). Food outlets and printing/photocopy/binding services are available within the campus grounds.
- There are times when it was so hectic and stressful with studies, assignments and lab reports that I felt like abandoning all the given tasks and go fool around somewhere. Fortunately, there are a lot of 24-hours Mamak restaurants to cool-off, hell, there are even times when I brought my assignments along with me to the restaurant.
- This was especially the case in my final year, I would bring my research project/thesis material to the Mamak restaurant @ around 2 O'clock in the morning, find a quiet little corner, order strong coffee and a nasi lemak, and stayed there for a couple of hours trying to finish the research project - and waiting for some "divine intervention / miracles/ Ideas from above" that might be useful (this was during the research proposal phase).
- Our clinical microbiology lecturer from India as I recalled it, is the most fierce lecturer in the whole of Health and Science faculty. She kicks people out of her class and make them stand outside for chit-chatting, smiling/grinning unnecessarily, day-dreaming, loosing-focus and even if your HP makes any sound whatsoever during her class. She will humiliate the student if the student failed to answer questions from her previous classes. I was kicked out of her class just because my phone made some sms noise.
- The timetables~, this varies according to each semester, the timetables are somewhat forgiving, sometimes there are days with only one class for the entire day. I had a semester where I have to go to class in only 4 days/week, however the days with classes are very packed .
- During the final year, there will be even less classes, eg; 2-3 classes for the entire week. However, don't be deceived by the lack of classes, during this time, I was heavily-burdened with research project which consumed a very large fraction of my time. Not to mention, going back and forth to the faculty in order to have my research project scrutinized by my supervisors.
- Now that I've graduated, I decided to further my studies in MBBS. Some of my friends are now working in UKM, UPM and USM as tutors while pursuing their specialization Masters. A brilliant Chinese friend of mine is currently studying for his PhD (Pharmacology) in USM, he was offered a direct PhD program bypassing Masters degree due to his excellent BSc. result. Others in my batch went directly to work mainly in the private diagnostics laboratories (eg; Gribbles, Pathlab), private hospitals (eg; Pantai Med.Centre, Tawakal Hosp), Insurance companies (as medical underwriters), Medical products companies... some went to Singapore and I knew a few who went totally out of the biomedical field and worked for Maxis. (Infact, our best biomedical student with a 4.00 CGPA is working for Maxis earning RM3K++/month. Me and my coursemates are really surprised by this. He even rejected MSU's offer to sponsor for his PhD.~ LOL )
That is it for now, I dont know what else I should elaborate... perhaps I will try to answer specific questions~ QUOTE(Kurogane88 @ May 3 2009, 05:42 PM) Anyway Cybersetan... CyberISETAN...LOL... which uni are u in in india?? I'm under the MSU-IMS with collaboration with MS Ramaiah Medical College, click below for additional information (I did put some details regarding this in the first and second page of this Biomedical thread): http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/889461cheers~ Added on May 3, 2009, 7:45 pmQUOTE(fen88 @ May 3 2009, 05:51 PM) yeah,thanks for the advice~ ya,i went to MPH to find the book recomment by u (cybersetan )already,but there is no more that book in store.version 2003.medical laboratory ,right... You should begin preparing your research proposal as early as possible. Find a suitable research topic from now. Seek guidance on preparing a research proposal from your lecturers. 2. Start reading other peoples' research papers/journals and get familiarize with the format, content and latest findings. Here you can find some examples (abstracts): http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/327/7423/10783. Learn how to use SPSS software from now, seriously I'm telling you, learn it from now. Get a tuition if you have to.
