fauzul: i wasn't referring to you. however, good to hear that we have similar tastes. i honestly don't know much about watches, and i don't get too uptight about details; but that DS1 i posted earlier looks classic, and i think will still look good as time passes.

and don't worry, more than half the time, i have no idea what the rest in here are on about.

when i do see a watch that i do like, i will spend the time doing my individual research. my advise is that you should try that. you already have a budget, and now, you've been equipped with brand names - try looking these names up and move on from there.

--

edit: as a sidenote, the picture of the certina i posted - i believe malaysian retail is about myr2.5k before discount.

anyway, i bet u started your collection with the seiko?
i have a lot of friends studying overseas, in europe, aussie. would brands that are european based be cheaper in europe or is it just the same?

yup, im in my early 20s, just started my career recently, havent finished study yet tho.. i have been wanting to own a true mechanical swiss watch for so long, and since my bday coming up soon, looking to give myself a nice bday present.. been studying the pages of this forum to get more knowledge, and it seems the more i read the less i know what u guys are talking about.. haha. u seem to be one of the most knowledgeable here, mind giving me some tutorials on watches, movements, design, and all.. i really dont know where to start..
with 2-3k budget u have to throw in a bit more to get a used speedmaster (~us$1100).

besides asking for a day date watch, with chrono. a raw 7750 movement cost us$440 already, add cost of case, leather or steel bracelet, dial etc.. and man hours assembling it, regulating it. thats another few hundred us$) + marketing cost, operating cost another couple of hundred + middleman cost, warranty cost another few hundred.

a good read 7750. most auto swiss day/date chrono watch will contain this engine.
http://www.chronomaddox.com/valjoux_7750_engine.html

others will contain base cal ETA 2824-2 with Dubois-Depraz module 2020
eg
http://www.watchseller.com/danjeanchron3.html

do read this, ppl are looking for the cheapest day/date chrono watches.
http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=117588

without chrono, these days.. the in thing is diver/aviation watches. I do agree with r3kahsttub, just go look at the brands u are interested and go from there.

a fun read on diver watches.
http://www.watchbizz.com/archive/wt_2007_0...2007_05_066.pdf

if twom can get u a deal thru his suppliers on factory prices (prices lower than grey market) u can afford really nice watch.

a louis erard should fit your budget nicely if u can the right shop. some how the discount is steep.
http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/Louis-Erard-XL-Swis...=item35a5b0068f

there are a few links posted to where to start reading up on watches. check them out. magazine is fun place to start.

watches in swizerland are in fact more expensive than asia.
ppl in uk, often shop in asias for watch. (AD I meant)
grey market, usa is the largest market.. u do find a lot of ppl trading/buying on timezone, watchuseek.

if u're looking for a decent mechanical watch, u might wanna have a look out on Oris. The designs will definitely fit ur liking considering ur age. it's js a little more than 3k. Hit the shops while u still can as it's still within the megasales period. I personally recommend going to duty free shops eg. those at Bukit Kayu Hitam or JB and u'll be surprised with the prices they could offer wink.gif

Added on December 22, 2009, 9:17 ambtw, Seiko Springdrive and Grand Seiko can be found in malaysia with price not less than 15k each tongue.gif saw it at Moments Sunway Pyramid yesterday. Dun mind me, i might a little outdated but im aw inspired by its movements biggrin.gif

hello! i just started my career and have been thinking to join the big boys club of owning a luxury watch for quite some time now. Although a car and a house is my foremost priority now, i think i can squeeze some quids into my "timepice tabung" ( i have tabungs for every major buys i plan to make, hehe). anyway, to start off my collection, i have a budget of around 2k. i like automatic watches with the small round mini watches in the watch face that tells the date, day, and a stopwatch ( i think i mean chronographs here, correct me if im wrong), as well as watches that u can see the mechanism in the face as well as in the back of the watch. I have snooped around in malls and such, and have came across a watch brand called ingersoll. the designs suit my taste and the price is within my budget too. can anyone advise me on this brand? or should i go for used timepieces instead? i saw this shop once in bangsar village and i think they sell some used rolex and the likes. would be great if anyone could suggest me other watch makes that is within my budget. i dont want oris as my brother in law owns one and dont want to be called a copy cat  tongue.gif
thanks in advance!

retail ~rm$12k for a co-axial cosc, Omega discount very much control not much diff so long u are getting thru AD.
by entry level... quartz model.. ~6.8k, btw this is not the 1st time u had been asking about how cheap an omega can get. the longer u wait price would only get higher no lower. since u like Ball, its cheaper than most omega. discount on ball also higher than omega

I guess u are looking for diver watch.

I've gotten my watch last night from The Hour Glass. A Glycine combat with a 2824-2 movement. Through their website and all, I thought this was just another 2824 movement as its stated even in their specs pdf file. I was suprised when the salesman started winding my watch MANUALLY with the crown. So I asked isn't this an automatic movement as it has a rotor at the back (lol).
Turns out this 25 jewel movement is manually windable as well as being an automatic. Cool. Will upload some photos when I get hold of my camera.
