means you're not a Malaysian. it's still possible to obtain the phone via Maxis in Malaysia, however you will need to pay extra deposits. please refer to :

You'll have to make a RM1000 refundable deposit/top up in addition to the normal fees/charges.

You can get them from iPhone sellers in http://forum.lowyat.net/MobilePhonesandRelatedAccessories

Search for iPhone and you should get a list of sellers.

Current price may vary from Rm 2450-2850 as different sellers have diff quotations.

If you're looking for shops, you can head to Low Yat, Digital Mall in Sect 14 PJ but they may markup the price higher than the iPhone sellers.

Be warn: Some shops may even sell you hardware/yellowsnow unlock units and brand them as unlock iPhones. Check the first post for more infos.

Cheers

hi,

If i get the iphone from the maxis plan, will i be able to use it with other service providers when my maxis contract expires?

Also, if i migrate to another country, will i be able to use the iphone from maxis with a foreign sim card? or is it locked to maxis sim?

errr... if you wish to retain your old celcom number to the maxis network, i can only assume that you are keen on the MNP.

having said that, if you have already ported over to maxis, of course you are using their network.

this whirlpool thread will be helpful to those whom are interested to purchase a telstra locked iPhone units and unlock it subsequently i.e. MB489X/A, MB496X/A, MB500X/A

and the statement below summarises an important bit:

"The restoring in iTunes completes the unlock process.
So, even if the iPhone has been flagged as unlocked (in the itunes database) it will always say that foreign sims are unsuported. Until you have restored it, and let itunes install the unlocked version of the operating syste,"

hi, it is to my understanding that in order to check if the iphone 3g is genuinely unlocked [refer to section D (3)],

"To check if your iPhone 3G is legit and is not a fake factory unlock look up on the iPhone under (Settings). The items list you should have there is Airplane Mode, WiFi, Carrier and Fetch New Data. As for the fake unlock iPhone 3G units, the 'Carrier' item is missing. If it is missing, you have been conned and if for some reason you already paid for it and there is no turning back, do not proceed to upgrade your iPhone firmware to FW2.2 as it will render your phone useless. A bit more info on this here: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/959711/+820"

How can this be done when the iphone3G needs to be activated first with itunes? How do i test it and go to settings and all that?

you can request from some sellers for your phone to be activated first. most Singtel sets are activated nowadays, unless you request for sealed sets. that's what i've found out.

or alternatively you check on the box itself (though i do admit that it is not hard to swap boxes)
