just came back from HK ... a lot of shops that sell without contract.. no problem at all ... HK$5400 for 8GB and HK$6200 for 16GB ... and the person has confirmed that all store will be selling the same price as these stocks comes directly from APPLE therefore price are very well "controlled" ..

i has double confirmed with another shop and that shop also quote the exact same price.
*
so how much does both models cost after converted to RM?

Do any of you guys or gals know whether it is possible to get a Maxis plan when you are living in Malaysia on a working permit? I am considering buying the iphone in Malaysia, but do not know whether this is possible..?
*
means you're not a Malaysian. it's still possible to obtain the phone via Maxis in Malaysia, however you will need to pay extra deposits. please refer to :

QUOTE(c28 @ Mar 24 2009, 03:22 AM)
hi, it is to my understanding that in order to check if the iphone 3g is genuinely unlocked [refer to section D (3)],

"To check if your iPhone 3G is legit and is not a fake factory unlock look up on the iPhone under (Settings). The items list you should have there is Airplane Mode, WiFi, Carrier and Fetch New Data. As for the fake unlock iPhone 3G units, the 'Carrier' item is missing. If it is missing, you have been conned and if for some reason you already paid for it and there is no turning back, do not proceed to upgrade your iPhone firmware to FW2.2 as it will render your phone useless. A bit more info on this here: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/959711/+820"

How can this be done when the iphone3G needs to be activated first with itunes? How do i test it and go to settings and all that?
*
you can request from some sellers for your phone to be activated first. most Singtel sets are activated nowadays, unless you request for sealed sets. that's what i've found out.

all locked sets with 2.2.1 (baseband 2.30.03) can only be hardware-unlocked eg. using Rebel Sim.

@varickgoh:
for the looks, no. but for the performance and specs-bump, yes. 500 bucks more for a faster processor, double the RAM, higher MP camera with AF, voice control etc. that's definitely a good deal. smile.gif

as of now, there's hardly any news of forummers purchasing from Thailand.

why not from Malaysia? Maxis is the official distributor.

i've read em. i've tried searching in trade zone but most of them is secondhand and some the price is unreasonable. so any recommendations on where can i get it?
*
i don't think there are any leftovers from Maxis/Singtel (if you're looking for new & officially unlocked 3G 16GB)

Any slightest idea when will they restock again? xD
*
3G 16GB is considered obsolete. i don't think there are any brand new sets available anymore, anywhere. (except refurbished ones, for warranty exchanges)

cause i wanna use prepaid. Rm100 is way more than my monthly prepaid usage. i've been repeating the question again and again. i just wanna know, anyone know where can i get officially unlocked singtel units here in msia or in singapore?
*
QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Aug 16 2009, 04:27 PM)
that's because you are not reading despite being told all over again?

if you read that link provided by teikwing, maxis is actually selling outright, unlocked iPhone 3G 8GB for RM1990.

hence if you opt for that, no one will give a tiny rat arse if you are on using more than RM100 per month or prepaid.

Added on August 16, 2009, 4:30 pmSingTel units are only obtainable via contracts and hence it will technically be a second hand unit (as you have demanded above) and by the time, the contract starts running, so has the warranty period.

only maxis and NOT SingTel that sells outright units.
*
if you bother to read properly (and not complaining the why others don't get it) and again from what nokia has mentioned, it's as simple as:

in order to obtain NEW Maxis iPhone 3G/3GS:
-> subscribe to contracted plans or
-> purchase outright (without contracts) via prepaid

in order to obtain NEW Singtel iPhone 3G/3GS:
-> subscribe to contracted plans ONLY

iPhone 3G/3GS from both Maxis and Singtel are officially unlocked.

Haha, I'm talking about the i3Gs xD Anyway, I dunno whether anyone has asked this before or not and I'm quite lazy to visit Maxis Website to look for it. Say now my postpaid is a subline from my brother's postpaid, can I signed up for the 1 year contract for the i3Gs 16gb while sustaining my current subline?
*
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1091499

yes. do note that you'll need your brother to tag along for registration and collection, or bring along an authorization letter.
