hello all! I am not sure whether I suppose to post the question to this thread.  Anyway, just wanted to give it a shot.  Yesterday I went to a phone shop at PJ.  The sales lady told me that all Iphone 3G will not function for maxis / Digi / Celcom, so no point buying an Iphone 3G phone.  Is this true?  Instead she recommends me to buy the Iphone 2G.
*
There's no problem using the 3G iPhone with our local telcos. As long as you purchase the units that's recommended on the first post of this thread.

i would like to know a place to buy an unlocked iphone 3g 8gb/16gb . n whats the pricing like?
*
You can get them from iPhone sellers in http://forum.lowyat.net/MobilePhonesandRelatedAccessories

Search for iPhone and you should get a list of sellers.

Current price may vary from Rm 2450-2850 as different sellers have diff quotations.

If you're looking for shops, you can head to Low Yat, Digital Mall in Sect 14 PJ but they may markup the price higher than the iPhone sellers.

Be warn: Some shops may even sell you hardware/yellowsnow unlock units and brand them as unlock iPhones. Check the first post for more infos.

hey folks,

i just wanted to know is there such thing called as an officially unlocked UK iPhone. i searched o2 there are no such things but i called Maxis today and they told me that if you buy from the apple retail shop in UK it can be used here. Help?
*
All UK, US iPhones are locked to carrier. As for Maxis customer service, they don't have the slightest idea of what they are saying. Please read the first post for more info.

Please do a search before openinga new thread.

Thank you.

I would suggest also that you ask for the 'iPhone 3G Part Numbers'. Cross reference the number with the link below.

For more info, read Section 'D' : Required Testing When Purchasing on the first post.

Buy.com is offering an unlocked 16gb iPhone 3G for $799 with full Apple warranty.

The Never Locked iPhone!!
Apple iPhones have typically been locked to only use on the AT&T network, so they are not capable of being used on other GSM carriers such as T-Mobile or for overseas travel.

Hackers were able to break the software to use the iPhone on carriers other than AT&T, but any connection to iTunes or any software updates provided by Apple lock the iPhone and render it useless.

Now the iPhone is available without any locks or restrictions to any GSM carrier.

Also, the Apple guarantee is valid for all never-locked iPhones.

You are now able to:
- Connect the iPhone to iTunes
- Update the iPhone software when the updates are available from Apple
- Purchase apps from the iTunes library or the Apps store on the iPhone
- Use AT&T or T-Mobile in the USA Or one of the 30 different GSM carriers all over the US.
- Use with any GSM carriers globally Introducing iPhone 3G. With fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store, iPhone 3G puts even more features at your fingertips. And like the original iPhone, it combines three products in one a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod, and a breakthrough Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. iPhone 3G. It redefines what a mobile phone can do again.

First post updated with a downloadable pdf file on Part/Model Number for reference on the origins of the iPhone.

Way to many buyers got tricked by sellers in buying the iPhone which are not unlock unit.

Hope this helps to curb it from happening further.
