Right, ok let's just leave behind the company's history. Could we agree that the sony a200 isn't a slouch either compared to d60/1000d?

just put this way, there are very little differences between these 3, entry level that is. doesn't make much heck of a differences going either one

That is essentially the message I've been trying to send out all this while.
Their differences are subtle at best. smile.gif

I want to work for your company. Family day can get new DigiCam! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Only ones I know at that range are Casio, Kodak and Sony (all around RM399 or thereabouts). There's also Vivitar which I think can go less than that ...

Agreed. But - there are some letdowns that prove the Sony un-worth despite its awesome price.

The few differences that segregate the Sony from Canon/Nikon are quite obvious and it can affect your choices. Hmm, just as Sony doesn't have their high quality lens range like Canon's L lineup, lens-wise you'll be having a big problem later on when you want to upgrade. That itself is a big factor to choosing your DSLR.

Ok, let's cut this out. Every time people ask for an entry-level recommendation this brews...

Does D60 offer more feature than A200 ? Whats the main different between this 2 model ? Can u let me know the exact price of this 2 model ?  smile.gif

Look like D60 > A200  , might go for it .

my opinion, if you want to use your camera for long and enjoy upgrading/playing with accesories, then for Sony it'll be very expensive.
I tried Sony's entry level dslrs before, and the build quality just doesnt suit my taste..

I think rm2700 can get you 450D with kit lens and 50mm f1.8 lens.

Ya...
450D with kit lens retails at around RM2500, and the 50mm f1.8 is about RM350. But I'm sure if you get a good deal, the price of the 450D kit might drop to around RM2350 perhaps? Sony's kit lens is 18-70mm of course, a litle bit adcvantage over Canon's 18-55mm, but when buying a dslr, look further. Sony's lenses are expensive! LOL... It's up to u.

Kit lens 18-55 only RM150+? Where to find? With or without IS? If below RM200 for a IS version I will go for it.

Regarding your statement above, i don't recall seeing a major price difference between Sony lenses of the same specs over the other brands. One might argue that there are less sony lenses available at this point of time but with the Alphas selling like hot cakes, i suppose we'll see more accessories and lenses being added to the fleet soon.

From my last check on Yamiya, the sony lenses are pretty well priced and the 3rd party lenses are priced similiarly to the Nikon mount and Canon mounts.

Again, be it an A200, a D60 or a 1000D, there's no clear winner who is better than the other. The differences in quality is subjective and what matters most would be which allows you better control over the camera, the way the buttons are place, the way the grip is shaped. Having a comfortable feel on your camera will be one of the most important thing when it comes to choosing an entry level DSLR.

Ya quite true also. Grip important. I'm still trying hard to get a good grip on my Canon. Sony's grip is good.
