these info can only be obtained through years of scraping turtle ponds haha
i) Natural habitat of Pseudemys (aka cooter/Florida turtle) is around southeastern US while Trachemys (slider) are found much further south. ii) Pseudemys generally gets bigger (to around 40cm) than Trachemys (around 30cm) iii) Adult Pseudemys are highly herbivorous while Trachemys are highly carnivorous. iv) Most adult male Trachemys tend to develop melanism while the occurence of melanism in adult male Pseudemys is lesser. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « v) Trachemys is more aggressive than Pseudemys vi) Head Markings: Most Trachemys have a line behind the eyes which is notably wider and most of the time, red or reddish. The markings of Pseudemys are not that prominent. vii) I'd say the pattern on the carapace of hatchling Pseudemys is more ornate than hatchling Trachemys (although not as beautiful as Graptemys in general). » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « viii) Most sellers will sell Pseudemys at prices much higher than RES. your are really lucky to have them @ RM5! p/s: kasei bro, when your Pseudemys gets too big, my Pseudemys colony can always welcome new family members This post has been edited by camillenoir: Dec 28 2008, 10:47 PM |

my last Malayemys subtrijuga returned to God yesterday, ending my love affairs with shellrots, pus and golden apples. see ya in heaven!
and of course, my far-fetched wish for this new year is for Him to paint some of my newborns off-white pink (weatherbond only) and grant them rubies for eyes |

A bit too far-fetched ? But its possible rite ! As many of your animals are WC and thus genes unproven ? and of course, my far-fetched wish for this new year is for Him to paint some of my newborns off-white pink (weatherbond only) and grant them rubies for eyes For me I just wish my co-own soccer ball Tortoise will give me some Ping pong size soccer ball !! - So I can train them in time for 2010 FIFA world cup !! Apparently my friend has consulted our wildlife (PERHILITAN) on keeping of Star Tortoise and other CITES appendix I and II torts and was told that no licence is needed to keep or rear them unless trading/selling in big numbers or involved in import and exportation of these buggers
So to date, people can't come into your house and confiscate the torts as PERHILITAN claims no need to apply for licence. When asked where is the source, just say CB or given by a friend. That is the standing rule at the moment. Just be a bit more careful if planning to sell and buy new ones... Before this, we were always told that if authorities find out you have some ST or the like, they might barge in and confiscate them...well not the case in real life but nevertheless, keeping a low profile is always the way to go. And please beware of tortoise farms from Cameroon. They are 90% fraud/scams and offer you torts at ridiculously cheap price. When a deal seems too good to be true, then it probably is Cheers!! |
