the one in ikano is A. horsfeldii. Not a sulcata variant but a completely different species.

and i wouldn't buy any leopard from ikano, they keep on giving fruits (usually papaya) even though i've been telling them not to for years.

QUOTE
reccomended here...I happen to read a tortoise book in MV MPH that rabbit pellets are quite good as bedding as the torts enjoy digging a bit..

jon is right... it is not recommended actually.

i think beardiekid's just ticked off by someone's reaction to the 888 price, his statement is just to emphasize how expensive/unimaginable animal's price can be.. leslie digressed the thread towards gay-ko discussion pulak wink.gif

I think it was called "four footed tortoise" as they wrote there...

not so much from this season.. i shifted all of them res to new enclosures and they took some time acclimating. some are agitated and some big ones gone aggressive. got few offspring but next season should be better.

some stupid worker also managed to burn big specimen (40cm+) to death while clearing up land. (which is pretty f#cked up since i never authorize the use of fire).

the good news is some CB land bound res already seems interested in the opposite sex, and some hill-dwelling res are back in the oil palm plantation after been missing since the flood early last year.

of coz....how to beat that kind of collection. needs time and $$$ to beat that amount.

time and money and large isolated land. smile.gif doing that kind of stuff in kl is plain suicide. which means we should marry some wealthy sino-kadazan to kickstart big-scale projects smile.gif

QUOTE
Spiny , how up in production also not many as they max also only 2 -3 eggs per clutch and rarely double clutch per season !! Of which he do breed as well ( But none for sale and some here do know why !!)

yup, business wise, doing spiny is non-viable... unless doing morph smile.gif

Anyone can tell me what happen to "Malaysia Fauna Forum" ?

malaysia fauna? interesting story...

the more reason for us to keep away from risky discussions (like how to smuggle animals on plane, where to get cheap star tortoise etc.) on this thread!!!

QUOTE
I though jabatan pehilitan will give cites licence for CB ... maybe the constrain is the F2 kot ..

F18 also cannot get license if parent got no cites.

Wah like that also can arh ? Emys , Impressed and spiny is local right . They should'nt prohibit us from CB.
I thought Jabatan pehilitan is encouraging people to CB this breed.
Please look at Arowana , they already have license for CITES,  why tortoise cannot ?
*
LOL...why don't you try to visit the nearest perhilitan office and ask them that same question? and don't forget to tell us the result of that, i really wanted to know their reaction

naa... in our climate, the presence of suitable egg-laying site should solve the problem. which says much about the giant res that had laid eggs on the floor. in the pantry. of my office.

i won't reply to the second question simply because i never experienced any egg-bound animals and nor do i want to google for obvious answer.

p/s: i'd blame Count Dooku. he (too) makes funny noises while taking a piss.

other forumers might have answers from experience, while i could only give no-brainer answers from google on this matter.

one of the best ways to provoke ally snappers into aggression is failure to provide enough water. intentional?

SPCA display or public participation?

not funny! you are forgiven for not knowing, but SPCA (animal welfare movement no?) should know basic stuff about their exhibit.

water level should be higher than the highest point of the carapace to allow the snapper to fully submerge, otherwise they'd be stressed and moody.

QUOTE(hfi @ Nov 4 2008, 12:54 PM)
All animals get stressed to some degree in any kind of exhibitions. Ive been to some cat's competitions and even those domesticated creatures get stressed. Just coz they seem placid or docile does not mean they arent stressed. Being in captivity itself is already stressful. Anyways, im sure SPCA has the best interest at heart when it comes to animal.
*
there's a difference between stressing out for being in captivity and stressing out for being constantly provoked. that mistake was no big deal actually once it is corrected, but think of the wrong message that SPCA had sent to the public.

if i had not raised the issue here, many people would still think that the husbandry provided was valid.

QUOTE
we've changed from 'discouraging' to 'being responsible towards your exotic pets'...and yes...whenever there's an event being held...those members who have pets will usually bring along their pets to the events for 'some purposes'...but that's what we are practising in SPCA Northern Malaysia...I don't know what my counterparts in Shah Alam doing for their events...

how is SPCA gonna educate the public on being responsible pet owners if they know nuts about exotic pets? having the best interest of heart is not gonna help if they are stuck on knowledge only on mainstream pets.

my advice to spca if they seriously want to initiate a reptile sanctuary; get more knowledge, recruit more reptile keepers, whatever you can on the know-how side. having land, funds etc won't mean anything if basic husbandry stuff remains ignored. it would only end up like sam poh tong or kek lok si.

duhknight, i'm glad that someone from SPCA is here. at least we could convey messages directly.

money stuff i think you can get from sponsors.

sponsor is harder to get than you might think... smile.gif

even the chelonian section of the perhilitan-governed malacca zoo had tough luck finding annual sponsorship of only RM5k.

(i won't advise on sponsoring them, for that matter. no, not unless they stop feeding their emys ikan kembung for a start)

p/s: off-topic - speaking of penang and butterworth, is it true that leslie got caught in a raid on some butterworth gay party last sunday?
