Pelodiscus sinensis - Chinese Softshell Turtle

As I was thinking local species !!

But the reddish plastron says it all !! Unless it was feed coloured fish pellets before !!

Where about are you in Kuching ?? As I know there are a few farms breeding this sp for sale in Kuching !!

As if there is only one sp of "Sui yu" in the world !!

Google softshell turtle and you will know !!

By the way if it is indeed a Pelodiscus sinensis - Chinese Softshell Turtle The underside will turn white as it grow up !!!

When i mean sui yu, i mean the ones they cook for soup dude.

Would you like to cook a fly river turtle for dinner? smile.gif And i don't think anyone calls soft shells "sui yu" other than the ones people use for boiling soup.

Up to you to think that there is only one paticular sp that all call "Sui yu " !! But hey which sp is that then ??

And that paticular sp with a coloured underside is originaly from north asia - China , Taiwan , Hong Kong ....etc So should be the original "SuiYu" even before Malaysia has any Chinese ( You Malaysian Chinese rite ) !!

And your supposed " Suiyu" deemed for soup has white underside ( why ? you might ask , because all those you have tasted / seen are local sp ) !! LOL

And yes I dont mind cooking / having fly river turtle for dinner and have tasted them before in PNG and North Australia !! And I bet the natives there call them " SuiYu " in their own language !!! Thats what they are for - tucker before they reach the pet trade !! !

Go out more and read up more before leaving comments !!

Good for you you have tasted, now i know what to try smile.gif

Yeah, i am malaysian chinese, and also, im also sure that lots of people here including me, (besides you) have only seen the ones they serve in chinese restaurants, and usually have white undersides smile.gif .

I also think that soft shell turtles they serve in shops, also are called sui yu, and like you said, to the locals, in north aussie or what other places you stated, might be called sui yu, but to us? blink.gif

I don't want to cause a racket here. Just stating out what i think.
