if you need a firmware 2.2.1 with a preserved 2.28.00 baseband, you will need PwnageTool to create that custom ipsw. then update via iTunes using that custom ipsw. (restore your iPhone with your custom firmware bundle by holding the “Alt/Option” button and clicking “restore”)

Quickpwn is unable to create a custom ipsw.

a direct update via iTunes will give u a 2.2.1 with 2.30.03 baseband which disables yellowsn0w.

however, do take note that there has been issues with Windows users facing errors while trying to restore their iPhones with that custom ipsw. therefore, it's safer to restore via iTunes on Mac OS X.

The final DFU thingy, doesnt work, it just hangs on the first title, never goes to second.

Now all gone... Phone asking to plug in to ITUNES screen.

Just restore your iPhone with the iTunes and make sure you choose the correct "IPSW" file for iPHONE 2G and quickpawn again, once you finish you can restore the backup and your iPhone will restore your data. Don't panic and follow the instruction carefully, cheers.

Hey guys, my cousin sister got her iPhone 2G from Taiwan. It came directly from US, and the shopkeeper jailbroke it for her. She's been using it with a Maxis sim card for a while in Malaysia already. Yesterday, a problem occurred where the "Ants on screen" effect malfunctioned. It started making the iPhone display tonnes of ants all over the screen, and the main menu (spring board) could not be accessed. The iPhone would just have the Apple boot logo in the background with ants all over, looking extremely messed up. She was clueless on what to do, so she got it to recovery mode and restored her unit to firmware 2.2

It wasn't a good thing either as the phone booted fine, but the springboard could not be accessed once again due to the absence of a valid sim card. (Only emergency calls etc).

I then tried jailbreaking it using Pwnage Tool and it abruptly failed. The custom firmware creation (ipsw file) worked really nicely, but an error popped up upon restoration. It read something like 21 (6000). Apparently, i was restoring it using recovery mode instead of the recommended DFU mode (I made a mistake with the buttons). When i restored it using the DFU method, the 21 error disappeared but the 6000 error remained.

I'm clueless on what to do. I've jailbroken many iPod Touches, but never an iPhone. Thanks.

Did you follow the DFU on screen guie or you did DFU on your own? Anyway, if Pwnagetool is not working out for you, use Quickpwn instead since it is a 2G iPhone.

DFU'd both using the on-screen prompt as well as my own. Both produced the same result.

Yea, i told my cousin sister to give Quickpwn a shot, as it was late, and i couldn't try it on my Mac.

Hurray finally version 2.2 on my 2g...

i just plugged out the usb and plug it into another one when it was trying to get into recovery mode, it worked... hurray

oh my... after successfully updating my fw to 2.2 on my 2g 8gb,

my contacts seems like haywired.

I already restore my phonebook contact which i backed up. All ok.
But when someone sms or call me, the number is already stored, but it wont show.

Yes, and if you check the first page, you can identify what both the GUI's specifically perform.

Any update i unlocking OS 3.0?

O.S3 will be launch by 17 june, so hold your horses there.... it may take couple of months (?) by the last time the dev team unlock the 2.2fw using yellowsn0w....

Guys, i think i've read somewhere in this thread, someone advice that iPhone 2.2.1 FW is not recommended to do update on their iTunes to the latest version(8.2).

May i know why?

I'm using 3G unlock FW2.2.1 JB, have updated to the latest iTunes, and everything seems operating normally.

Users are advised not to do so, because jailbreak GUI's like QuickPwn and Pwnage Tool doesn't not work with iTunes 8.2. If your iPhone is already jailbroken, it should work flawlessly though.

It's been a while since i MELAWAT LYN... hehehe... no issue with my previous 2G phone... sold it after getting 3G 16G (Maxis. No issue with DATA since i'm on unlimited (been reading the other thread).

My fren is using 3G 16G UK phone. Her turbosim rosak and she didn't want to replace it. So, she jadi warrior updated her 2.0 fw to 2.2.1 and try to unlock it. She paid £14.99 for software at iphoneunlockuk but failed to unlock it. I managed to downgrade her FW to 2.2 but her baseband is still 2.30. Since i dont have time to do it, she gave it to another guy, who tried to fuzzyband, but failed as well.

She gave to phone to me hoping i can find a way to do it. Only then i realized that her bootloader is 5.9. I've been googling since 530pm trying to find a solution to this, the only solution i found is REBELSIM (or sumthing that sounds like that). Finally, now at 11.30pm, i gave up.

Any solutions guys? I have done my homework before i think it's time to ask SIFU davidgary73 for help...!
