GTX280 and 4870 both has 1GB which means they are meant to spent on higher reso.
i dont said that they cant be spent on lower reso, but for me its overkill.
coz i have experiences using flagship cards on my crt, like 2 years already.
if i were u, i'll just go with 4870. that card is enuff for me at 1280x1024 reso.

king99, what's your budget?

1k then go for 4870 1GB, if 1.5k+ GTX280 or fork a little bit more for the 4870x2.

He wanted either 4870 1GB or GTX280, I'll go for 4870 1GB anytime though, better price/performance ratio.

Since he wants a card now, then answer him instead of waiting for the next gen cards. Then when the next gen cards arrive, then you're gonna say wait for the 30nm DX12 card then? dry.gif

nope... I am quite sure the next generation card will consume less power... (40nm)
no need to wait further.. since it is direct X 11.0.

Chill dudes. As for me, I would suggest try to avoid any 1k++ GC, get a normal 4870 or 4850 will do. Most probably you'll do an upgrade in 1 or 2 years time which made the GC worthless.

Unless you really sure want to use the GC for the coming years, then spending more on it is alright.

Regarding to dx11, IIRC the current dx10 card will support dx11 too.

A few days ago, we received news that ATI will release a new GPU Radeon HD4830 (Code: RV770LE). To our surprise, this card is now on sale in Taiwan retail market.

That card is made by Powercolor. Model name is AX4830 512MD3-H! Powercolor AX4830 512MD3-H comes with a DVI, a VGA and a HDMI output.
It is priced at NTD4300 (Around USD132)! Other than a lesser number of shader processor, it shares a similar architecture to the HD 4850.

So... 4850 is the only one... without the HDMI port on the card itself. Need to use converter.. dry.gif.

DX11 hardware support software/games backward compatibility, which means u can use DX9/DX10/X10.1 games on DX11 hardware.
but,
DX11 software/games need DX11 hardware to accelerate the DX11 engine.

hope i am doing it rite..

Well i'm not sure about this honestly tongue.gif
But unless they can make something really different from dx11, there's no point to get dx11 also. DX10 is overrated or maybe still haven't utilized properly yet , hope they can come out with something wow for dx11.
