Why izit that the 8.10 cat allow the idle gpu temperature up to 78 izit safe i use to use the previous drivers where i had to mod the profile settings to gain control of the fan n i know the new drivers allow to manually control the fan i thought that the new drivers will control the idle temp even better i mean idle at 56-60degrees i still feel my 4870 is runnin hot.

yesterday i monitored the temp found out that the my 4870 idle temp does not reach 80, 8.10 drivers allows max temp at idle 78,my problem solved i custom a few profiles for my fan speed using the overdrive function works fine and even better.

just tried crysis warhead with my 4870 on the new 8.10 drivers i can run the game at enthusiast settings @1400x900 but not so fluid maybe i need a newer and faster cpu like c2d e8400,sifus out here does cpu speed really impact performance for crysis? Currently my cpu is a x2 5000+ BE cranked up the clock speed and saw some improvements.

QUOTE(OmniAtlas @ Oct 25 2008, 12:12 PM)
hey guys, I have a 4850, running catalyst 8.10 with the fan at manual ~55 %. My idle temps still hover around 74 degrees, is this normal?

When I first got the card and did the speed hack, I got it down to around 60 degrees, I don't know why its suddenly so hot.

Perhaps its the Malaysian weather.

I have the sapphire 4850.
*
i also have a 4870 standard idle at 70-74 degrees,u dont need to do the speed hack now as the new drivers 8.10 can control the fan directly from the ATI overdrive control panel.I set my fan speed at 30% and my 4870 idles at 55degrees now but when i do gaming i push it up from 40%-75%(noisy but great in overclocking mode).

my bios is flash to ASUS TOP. so default already 815/925
anyway, overclocking 4870 GPU pays more den OC memory coz 4870 already hav blazing fast ddr5, just the GPU clock bottleneck.

u can try ATI tools, Ati Tray Tools or edit the bios using RBE.
i do suggest people 2 use the ASUS TOP bios since it is OC @ 812/925 & @ the same time cooler & uses less power.

wana mod bios i x berani la,riva tuner doesnt support ATI?

i tested my crysis warhead also just now.
i loaded my previous save game. 2 my surprise, the graphic looks ugly, looks like setting has & resolution has been tune down 2 minimum level & also frame rate is chocking.
but i cut go 2 the setting option, reset all the graphic setting, go bck in2 the game & everything is ok bck wit smooth frame rate.......... rclxms.gif
*
meaning ur using the standard settings the games select for ur pc hardware performance,i had to oc my x2 from 2.6ghz all the way to 3.2ghz and my 4870 core clock to 795mhz and 1195mhz for the ram, then only can get around 35fps-40fps avg at enthusiast settings n my resolution at 1400x900 and of course no AA la n why izit when i play farcry2 using DX10 i fell the frame rate not so smooth?
