You mean overheat? If you use vista and adjust the power to power saver....you wont feel any heat on the keyboard. Heat is a common problem for all notebook. Which notebook does not have a slightest heat?

I was wondering, while charging and using, do you guys remove the battery and solely depend on the power supply? Does this help prolong the battery life in long run?

Cause my mom's v3000's battery died. Without power supply, max. battery capacity is 10 minutes only. -___-

Btw, thought of buying this laptop despite the short battery life and the heat. Budget >__<

Yes I think the proper way to prolong battery life is to remove the battery when u'r using AC adapter on it.. Only use u'r battery when u'r on the go.. change the battery when the laptop has been turn off... that's how i'm operating it.. My compaq notebook from 3 years back still in a good shape smile.gif ... bcos most of the time i'm using AC power hehehe..

just finish uninstalling crappy HP & 3rd party software from my laptop... now still thinking of how i'm going to repartition the HDD to split it up to 2/3 drive.. by default it's create 2 partition 1 for operation (1 drive 2++Gb).. & another for recovery (10GB)..

ermmm.... Partition Magic / QTparted ???

any suggestions? hmm.gif - Don't want to loose all the original OS.. just want to redistribute the capacity of free HDD..

The keyboard is ok.. but if u put it on u'r lap for quite sometimes that might not be comfortable sweat.gif

lol..heat is already an issue and you're thinking of suitability for the lap? you can feel how hot the surface of the table is when a laptop runs at 60 degrees...i head this laptop runs hotter...put on your lap and look down to find your breakfast tomorrow morning lor bro...

Thanks all for the great review from your own personal experiences. I'm gonna get this laptop for my wife.

The price at Mines IT Centre - Challenger Shop

Compaq Presario CQ40-126AX

RM2099 + RM200 (Vista Home Premium)
Standard nylon bag
Free external USB hard disk kit + 160GB
Free optical mouse
Free cooling pad

Discount on MS Office Home and Student 2007 (RM209 for 3 license) for every notebook purchase

----------

Latest news... already purchased yesterday. My wife love it!

Ask about the 3 year optional coverage plan for RM200. The salesperson over there told me that HP does not give this option to Presario models sad.gif

Setting up now... installing KIS2009, MS Office, Firefox + plugins, Sidebar gadgets.

My first observation... heat is not a problem at all. No need to use the cooling pads. Running at HP Recommended power plan setting. Compared to my old Dell P4 and 510m.... this is quite ok what. I am quite puzzled by the fuss on the heat issue, what was that all about. In any case we will see in the few weeks to come. Right now I have to download Futuremark and SiSoft Sandra and do a stress test soon to find about the heat thing is true or not.

Lithium ion batteries continue to degrade from the day of manufacturer even not used. After 1 year most probably around 80% is left. Of course if you take good care, it will lose less capacity over time.

Will see if 1 GB is ok first, if not just throw out the 1GB and get a 2 GB 800mhz as most of you reccomend. 4GB is overkill me thinks.
*
That's a very good deal. 800mhz is the ideal speed for Puma platform. 4GB is indeed overkill if you dont plan to use 64bit OS.

which option better?

if u add 800mhz 1gb it will still run at 667 because the original RAM is 667.

if u remove the original ram, add one 2gb 800 it will run faster but still a bit slower than 2x1GB 800 because of single channel.

hmm.gif so to get the optimum speed is to run it with 2x1GB 800

if 1GB 800+ 2GB 800 how? will it loss to 2x1GB 800

vista premium with 2x1GB 800 better or 1GB 800+ 2GB 800 better?

2x1GB 800 should be enough.

Dunno how many ppl here think this is good news, but I can get exactly 2 hours of battery life using Ubuntu 8.10 compared to 1 hour 20 mins using 8.04 on my 125AX. The power management support has become way better.
