Thanks all for the great review from your own personal experiences. I'm gonna get this laptop for my wife.

The price at Mines IT Centre - Challenger Shop

Compaq Presario CQ40-126AX

RM2099 + RM200 (Vista Home Premium)
Standard nylon bag
Free external USB hard disk kit + 160GB
Free optical mouse
Free cooling pad

Discount on MS Office Home and Student 2007 (RM209 for 3 license) for every notebook purchase

----------

Latest news... already purchased yesterday. My wife love it!

Ask about the 3 year optional coverage plan for RM200. The salesperson over there told me that HP does not give this option to Presario models sad.gif

Setting up now... installing KIS2009, MS Office, Firefox + plugins, Sidebar gadgets.

My first observation... heat is not a problem at all. No need to use the cooling pads. Running at HP Recommended power plan setting. Compared to my old Dell P4 and 510m.... this is quite ok what. I am quite puzzled by the fuss on the heat issue, what was that all about. In any case we will see in the few weeks to come. Right now I have to download Futuremark and SiSoft Sandra and do a stress test soon to find about the heat thing is true or not.

Er. I was thinking. How much do i need to pay for an original Vista? Will i have any problem if i *cough* dont use an ori one?
*
You can get the OEM Vista Home Premium for RM200 when you get this laptop. If I am not mistaken the price for a full license was RM390 when I check yesterday. Or izzit RM290, can't remember sorry.

That is already a bargain in my book since Dell was charging me RM400 to upgrade from a Home Basic OEM to a Home Premium OEM last year!

Are CQ40-125AX is a limited stock???

I heard this laptop is a hottest model ever sold.

Afraid if this model is out of stock.  unsure.gif

You can still get the 126AX version at Mines IT 3rd floor at Challenger shop at RM2099 + RM200 (Vista Home Premium). Still get free external hard disk, optical mouse and cooling pad. They give some extra goodies like a couple of D-Link pens, games, etc. Look for salesperson name Iqbal.

Your UCare is RM300? I got mine for RM250. Its pickup and return package. With Vista Business. Ram upgraded to 4G and total price is RM2400. Got it last month. No free gift.

BTW according to moniqee at this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=845574 that Ucare exclusion includes

1. snatch theft

2. stolen from vehicle

3. theft without forcible entry

Can you confirm this?

Hi, guys

Base on the information given by this thread, the window vista home premium only can utilise maximum 3 Gb ram.
And the dual channel function is still working if we use 1GB ram + 2GB ram.  Is this true? or the dual channel only function at 2GB ram + 2GB ram?  rclxub.gif
*
Yes, I also want to know about this. If it is 3GB will it fully oiptimize the dual channel. I might consider upgrading to 3GB if it is. If not 2Gb only.

ask him go get from the hp store outside lowyat... 134AX is better and same price. ask for free optical mouse and hp backpack upgrade also. also upgrade to 4GB DDR2 800MHz rams. highly recommended to get the hp backpack... its good quality and cheaper than buying a notebook bag from retail.
*
Thanks for the info. I'll let him know, but I think he wants to wait for PC Fair just for a reason to go there meet the salesgirls... hehehe

Agree. The price is so attractive for anyone who really need the notebook urgently. Otherwise better wait.

Why still need to wait? Can get better price after PC Fair or new model coming out soon?

Hi, I'm new here.

I want to ask a question.

1: Will the price go up after Pc fair? can only buy it after 18 Dec  mad.gif

2: Can Vista play older games? like red alert 2 or older.
Totally new to vista..only know XP  sweat.gif as i still used my year 2002 PC whistling.gif

3: Do vista premium come in 64bit ? Cant afford original vista ultimate.

Lastly, how hot this laptop, because i will use it in no air con room and probably no notebook cooler.

Anyway, Thanks

Hope to join you all as Proud owner of cq40 thumbup.gif

Using CQ40-126AX. To play games you might need the cooler. Just buy any ordinary RM9.90 laptop cooler will do.

so,this laptop is worth the price?

anything to lookout for when buying from pcfair?

compared to the c2d t5800,does the turion x2 rm-70 fare off well?

is it fast enough to be usable say,3 years from now?

thanks.
*
Just go and buy already. Today is last day of PC Fair.

Any laptop shelf life is 3 years. But at the end of it's time you cannot espect to run all the latest games. Even if Microsoft comes out with new OS you can just continue to use your old OS, no worries. People are still using Windows XP comfortably even it has been more than a year Vista come out.

hi guys any of u here using vista has a problem on the on/off button? turning it on ofcos is not a problem but with recent update, i found i cant shutdown my laptop by pressing the on/off button anymore, it goes to sleep instead, hav to alt+f4... works fine b4 this...

any solution?
*
I think by default it goes to hibernate. Just right click on your battery icon and select power options. On the left side column you can select a few options. Among them

- Choose what the power button does

I change my setting for closing lid to do nothing so that I can close the lid when viewing movies on my plasma smile.gif

Is this the same version selling at last PC Fair for RM1500. If I remembered correctly it is 133AX and my wife just bought 126AX at RM2k++ a month or so earlier.

Hi guys,
I have 2 question:

1) May I know there have any different in performance if i'm use the graphic card driver from HP and mob version (driver heaven)?

2) Why my DVD rom cannot install game in normal window. But it can install at safe mode. any1 know why?
Answering #2. Are you new to Windows Vista?

You need to have administrator rights to install programs that access registry or system files and folders. This is the user access control (UAC) file protection. You can do this by right clicking and run as administrator since login using admin accounts not enough.

No worries. But remember to scan files for viruses first since you are bypassing the protection.

has anyone know whether the Dell 90w adaptor compatible with CQ40? the connector are the same, but i saw the voltage is slightly higher than my 65w original one (19.5v vs 18.5v), and the amp (A) is also slightly different... unsure.gif

i have one spare dell adaptor, if it is compatible then I do not have to bring my bulky adaptor in my laptop bag...

thank u..

Better don't use if not the same. You don't want your laptop to explode!

Hey guys,

First thing i got to say...this threat ROCKS!!!...It has all d info i need bout my CQ40 133AX...just bought my lappy a week ago in msia...Me studyin in bali, lap top just reach yesterday...BUT...my lappy has 1 dead pixel n my usb port on the left side of the lappy is not working...when i insert my flash d in the usb port, it doesnt read at all(even the thumb drive light doesnt flash)...this is hardware problem right? my next trip 2 malaysia is end of this year:-(
*
First of all is it a dead pixel or a stuck pixel. If it is a stuck pixel you could fix it manually.

http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Stuck-Pixel-on-an-LCD-Monitor

Or use this software.

http://www.jscreenfix.com

I tried the fix last time and it worked for a while but after it came back I decided to send for warranty. Maybe you can try this first.

On the USB part, have you check cmos setting USB is enable or not. You can also check the device manager or run a free hardware diagnostic tool called SiSoft Sandra to check if it is really a hardware failure.
