I did take advantage of last week's J Card Day at 1 Utama. Bought a PV80 and besides the 5% discount, there was the RM450 Jusco vouchers (RM10 voucher for every RM100) plus a bonus RM100 Jusco voucher. Collectively, RM550 worth of vouchers besides the other free gifts - camera, Nike t-shirt, s-video and HDMI cables - and the zero interest installment plan. Certainly the best buy (for a PV80) in Malaysia.

I am inclined to believe competition and economies of scale will be a stronger factor than currency that determine the falling prices of plasma or LCD TVs.  And in Malaysia, consumers can enjoy better bargains for mainstream models, especially 32 to 42-inch flat screen TVs.

When the market becomes more mature perhaps in a year or two, I believe consumers will get better "free" gifts like shopping or petrol vouchers, thanks to market forces and not DVD players or digital cameras.  Afterall, which home (in Malaysia) has no DVD player.

What comes next after affordable flat panel TVs obviously will be blu-ray players.  Meanwhile, we watch from the sidelines with "frustration" our US counterparts paying sub-US$300 players while we still have to pay a bomb to enjoy HD content.

think the price shouldn't drop any further as it's already quite affordable for a 42" Plasma. even if the price drop more, there might be possibilities that Panny won't manufacture their Plasmas @ SG anymore but at China, when quality might be compromised.

so how much is the approx nett price u bought it minus all the free gifts & vouchers?

Thats why I say I better trust the sifu here. Maybe has the marketing skill but not the technical skill  doh.gif

BTW, what do u mean by 480p component DVD to 1080p HDMI DVD? Do u mean the cable or the player itself....?

I set my Plasma tv to Standard and normal settings. I found the Cinema and Warm too yellowish and dull in its colour to my eyes. So, I still maintain this settings since day 1.
*
Older DVD players have only component output, so can manage a progressive scan 480p/576p signal at best. Since there's very little processing done, the DVD is sent via it's original format through the (hopefully good) component cables into the HDTV where it's internal scaler will scale it to the TV's native resolution (720p/1080p). Component always looks good.

The latest HDMI players can upscale to 1080p (via HDMI cable), and so does all the upscaling and deinterlacing work for the TV. The advantage of HDMI is it's lossless and so, in theory, will be better the the lossy, analog component signals. However, much of the PQ depends on the quality of the processor in the player (as it has to upscale the original source using its algorithms). And cheap players have cheap processors, possibly even cheaper than the one in your TV. That's why not every external scaler will be better than the one in your TV.

To test which scaler is doing better, test both 480p and 1080p modes. If 480p looks better, your TV has the superior scaler. If 1080p looks better, your DVD player has the superior scaler.

i dunno whether its right to post here, but need some expert opinion on this.
i am having some problem with my Samsung 32" LCD TV, LA32R81B connected to my PC via VGA cable.
I'm using 1360 x 768 resolution.
Whenever I tried to play games, or even try to run 3Dmark06, my screen will turns to blue screen with error "Mode not supported". (3D mark is running under 1280 x 1024 resolution)
Only after i pressed ESC, it will goes back to the desktop.

This even happens when i switch the resolution to a higher or even lower then 1360 x 768.
Can anybody check if this LCD only supports ONE resolution ONLY??
*
Problem lies within VGA System. For example my Panasonic LCD TV only supports 1366x768 , 1024x768 , 800x600 , 640x480 on VGA. If I go higher then that , it shows Mode not supported , if I go lower it wouldn't still support. VGA uses a different architecture and it doesn't know how to upscale and downscale

You'll have to switch to HDMI output (DVI-HDMI cable would do the trick). This is what I am using right now. What its doing is that my graphics card has an option for HDTV (most graphics card do anyway). So its outputting at 1080i (to support resolutions such as 1280x1024 and of course up to 1080i itself). What it does is that it scales the image (i.e 1280x1024 and outputs it as 1080i. The display thinks the image is 1080i and it displays it). Of course its not going to look great as your graphics card did some downs scaling and then your TV upscale it

Hi all experts here, I am thinking of buying Pansonic LVD TX-32LX88MK. owever, when I searched through the spec, I found the response time is 15ms which is ver slow compare to other brand LCD TV with 6~8ms.

Does this slow response time affecte the image quality? Any problem faced if I use this LCD TV as my computer monitor.

Thank you very much for your advice.

I reckon the nett price will be about RM3,450 after factoring the extra 3% bonus from the accummulated J card points at the end of this year. Obviously, the camera value is very subjective although it has a RRP of RM499. I will be happy to sell to anyone for RM350.

About RM3,500 for the PV80 is about the best price currently. No way HN or BD or even independent electrical shops can match.

J Card Day, in a nutsell, is one sale to look forward to every year especially for big ticket items.

I am using TX-37LX80MK. I think it shares the same specs as the 88MK as well. Anyway I am using it as a PC Monitor too .So far no problems if you're using it via VGA. If you plan to use it via HDMI you might be having some issues though

The image quality is superb , once again it depends on your eyes. Some see 720p as lacking and others even say 576i is superb !. Its all in your eyes and the content of the video !!

Just bought a VGA cable. So difficult to find, cos most stores only have the extension VGA cable and not the Cable to monitor. Hook it up and walah ! PC mode appeared on my HDTV. Vast differences PQ compared to the previous S-video cable.

I told you its much more better then S-Video , its pixel prefect (should be). So get ready and try some HD Trailers out there from Apple. You'll get a shock of your life !

Well, I am glad that I made a wise decision with the 42-inch PV80. Excellent experience - 8.5 ft viewing distance in my bedroom. I guess it is my most exciting "investment" after switching to the Macbook.
