1. What is the meaning Springboard?
- Springboard (aka homescreen) is where all your applications are displayed. The SpringBoard typically refers to the homescreen of your iPod Touch or iPhone. More accurately, the SpringBoard is the program that allows you to launch applications from the homescreen.

2. What is Lockscreen?
- Where you swipe to unlock your phone.

3. Program to create Themes

Totone Theme: A simple program to create themes iPhone (Windows)

Totone Theme is an application for Windows that allows you to create complete themes for iPhone and iPod Touch. Operation is very simple and intuitive, and in this way we can customize any component as graphics: wallpaper, icons, the lockscreen, the slider, battery, and all other images.

SummerBoard Themes with WinterBoard:

"WinterBoard can apply SummerBoard theme. Just upload your SummerBoard Theme to /private/var/mobile/Library/SummerBoard/Themes (by default the folder /SummerBoard/Themes does not exist. We need to create it) and WbApp app, nicely compliment Winterboard as you can preview the theme first before applying it". (by master frozzbyte)

Beginners Guide:

1. What is WinterBoard?
- A powerful app for theming the device in one simple tool and only applicable for Jailbreak iPhones.

2. What do i need to use Winterboard?
- A jailbreak iPhone with Cydia application installed.

3. What do i do after i have installed a theme from Cydia or manually uploaded to my iPhone?
Launch Winterboard and select (tick) the theme you have downloaded. Let it respring and you'll will see the new theme.


4. Where to download themes?
a) There are numerous themes made available via Cydia application. Download the selected themes and select the downloaded theme via Winterboard.
b) iPhone themes sites which requires you to manually upload it to the iPhone.

Intermediate Guide:

1. How to upload the themes downloaded from theme site?
- Use iPhone Mac/Windows File Manager to upload your themes.
1) Windows - DiskAid, WinSCP, iFunBox, iPhone Tunnel Suite
2) Mac - Cyberduck, DiskAid, Fugu

For iPhone users who has firmware 3.1.x above, download afc2add from Cydia which will allow you to use the iPhone Manager above. If not, you will not be able to access the root directory of the iPhone.

2. Where to place the theme downloaded from theme site?
- There's two iPhone partition. One is media partition and the second is root partition.
- All Themes are location in root partition @/Library/Themes.

*The /Library/Themes folder is simply a shortcut to /private/var/stash/Themes.XXXX Where XXXX is some random letters Winterboard creates.

3. View battery percentage and change clock with custom name?
Use Extended/Supreme Preferences. Download via Cydia. Select Extended preferences in Winterboard and quit Winterboard. Let it respring. Proceed to Settings and scroll down till you see SpringBoard. Select Springbaord and select Numeric Battery.

4. 5 Dock icons
Download Five Icon Dock via Cydia.

5. Manage application into Categories
Download Categories via Cydia which allows you to move your SpringBoard icons into folders.

6. Changing carrier name
Download "MakeItMine" via Cydia.

Advance Guide:

*Please manually create the folders for all the path examples given below as per the folders name if the folders are not available in your current theme.

*(Your Theme) is the theme you're currently using with Winterboard.

1. Customize Icons
Icon path: (Your Theme)/Icons/
*make sure the icons in the icon folder must be named exactly like it shows at springboard i.e SMS is text.png, Mail is mail.png, installer.png and so on.

2. Change Wallpaper and LockScreen Background
- Wallpaper (Homescreen) and LockBackground.png (Lockscreen)
Choose any picture and resize it to 320 X 480 and name it Wallpaper.png. Place them in your theme.

3. Changing System Font/Clock
* Connect USB cable to your iPhone. Use file manage and select root folder. Navigate to the folder below to change your font.
Clock Fonts: /System/Library/Fonts/Cache/LockClock.ttf
System Fonts: /System/Library/Fonts/Cache/Helvetica.ttf
System/Library/Fonts/Cache/HelveticaBold.ttf
*Replace the fonts with the custom fonts and restart iPhone to see changes.

Backup the original fonts before proceeding. (Helvetica.ttf, HelveticaBold.ttf and LockClock.ttf).
Navigate to the following folder on your iPhone using iPhonebrowser or any iPhone File Manager.

7. Change UISounds and SMS Tones
Change User Interface and SMS tones to any sound you like and name as stated below:

1) Lock sound - lock.caf
2) Unlock sound - unlock.caf

4) SMS sounds - sms-received1.caf to sms-received6.caf

8. Change Slide To Unlock Color
(Your Theme)/Folders/TelephonyUI.framework/
- bottombarlocktextmask.png to change the color of slide to unlock background.

9. Change Slide To Unlock with custom text or to no text
Saurik's new string to add text to AWAY_LOCK_LABEL
Under Saurik's theme, go to Bundles/com.apple.springBoard/en.Iproj. Copy SpringBoard.strings to the desktop. Edit SpringBoard.strings with texteditor and you will want to map just that one string to a different value. Change the "AWAY_LOCK_LABEL" = "slide to unlock" to:


Download: SpringBoard.string
Place SpringBoard.strings to your custom themes in Bundles/com.apple.springBoard/en.Iproj

10. Change Telco Carriers Logo

11. Transparent background on Clock and Slide to Unlock
Have these files transparent.
1) topbarbkgnd.png
2) bottombarbkgndlock.png

Download
Place these files in : Your theme/Folders/TelephonyUI.framework. You'll have a full lockscreen/charging screen.

12. I can't seems to get the widget and my theme working. What's the solution?
- Move/Swap the themes by selecting the the 3 lines on your right screen in winterboard and place your theme as first priority.

Glow Text does not use any batt at all. Just text-shadow on your icon text and download the GlowText file. Check the folder and you will see the plist file.

For Mp4 movie wallpaper, the movie will be moving. Pretty cool rite. I've updated the mp4 wallpaper with a link for you to checkout some clips.

ANd i have to create a wallpaper folder in /Summerboard/themes?

The plist is in the GlowText folder. Use a text editor to open the plist.

mp4 wallpaper only can be used via Winterboard. I have not tried the Summerboard path way.

then went to winterboard thick on "Gun metal" and home button but ntg changes ... how come >>?

selected it, respring & rebooted.

but it doesn't shows the theme

Try deleting the Summerboard Gun Metal and only use the one you put in Library/Themes. That should work.

ive done lil' mod upon Kids Icons by Everaldo to be used as icon set. feel free to use em'

alright guys this is how exactly happen and how to make it works easyly . *~tested on 3G iPhone ~* [ WINDOWS USER ]

1stly : i would said the previous files is corrupted because it should contain 2 folders in GunMetal . As inform by David , he'll reupload it again .

2nd : Now u have to prepare to download "GunMetal.theme" which provided by David and then make sure u've any filemanager to transfer it to your iPhone Devices . another option which is SSH which have to be prolly in command for windows user some sort of
ssh root@[ipaddress] passwd apline
scp [ file name ] [drive located] <<=== not recommend

Personally recommend for using "DISKAID" (Windows User) under iphone Application that provided by David oso .

Note***** Do double check again the folder after abstract , because winrar may make double folder while abstracting . so only use the folder which have 2 sub folder inside "Bundles" and "Icons" . Complicated huh ? probally u would get wht i meant after take your action .


if you're using DISKAID , when running the app u might see there is option at the btm left which u can switch to "Root folder" and then go to location

Library/Theme and drag the particular "GunMetal.theme" folder into it

Last step :
slide to unlock your iphone , go to winterboard and choose "GunMetal" then press home button again . Now after slide to unlock again u will be able to see the changes

Hey bro, will look into the gunmetal file but for the tap tap revenge mod, better not do that way. Tap Tap Revenge will not be able to open after a day or two. I have tried the way you mentioned and i have gotta install tap tap app couple of times. So by selecting via Winterboard, Tap Tap has not crash or not able to open since. Safer via Winterboard.

hey david i just got your 3g edge for winterboard..
But when i apply it...all i see is a square box with a dot in the middle...

Check the file you downloaded. There's 2 png pictures in it. It may due to file corruption too and have been seeing files get downloaded from LY forum and not work like for example gunmetal theme.

I have updated the 3G Edge icon to 3G Edge.theme. It should work well.

If you can'tget it to work, try this:

got the guitar hero tap working last nite rofl!! was jamming until late nite and now so sleepy

Still can't get it to work..
Gonna try with the overwriting later..
Anyway..when i down the 3G EDGE icon..
Inside the folder i see 2 PNG file but no preview at all...
When i use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to open.
All i see is a box woth a cross in the middle..

only 1, the default iphone font were Helvetica, it use both the regular & bold

u only need to replace helvetica if u would like to change the font

Weather widget for your phone. (credit to MacThemes)



To change to your state and update interval time, go to Private folder and use text editor to view configureMe.js

Update interval:

Weather update interval every 35 minutes. (You can set any amount of time)



State:



Change to your state. e.g: Penang, Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia etc..

Save.

View Wallpaper.html with your browser and see if the weather widget works before you SSH to your phone.

*You have to be online to for the widget to work.

Hey..i think i know why the 3G icon not working..
For some reason its not working in my hse...
When i go to subang jaya its working lol.

maybe its not in the range for 3g?

i went to maxis center past few days , they mention to activate 3G function we have to dial *136# and then msg will be acknwledge again to set our phone on *100# phone setting , problem is i dont find any mobile company that related with iphone - - ( non of them ) .... anybody know hw or mind to share their knowledge ?

The 3G icon is a replacemnt to your EDGE icon (the box with E), if you see square box with a dot, it is because you are on GPRS network. It all depends on the area where EDGE is supported. Thats the reason why it works in Subang but not in your house. This is normal.

I don't know if anyone had mentioned this, but here's a comprehensive tutorial covering the use and features of Winterboard.

Thanks zc_squash. Nice tutorial site. Tried a couple of days ago using this tutorial site + others to get our local carrier logo (maxis, digi, celcom) to use with Winterboard and can't get it to work yet. Any ideas mate?

I am actually running into the same trouble. I remove any settings using Erica's MIM and my carrier icon is now back to MYMAXIS. I created this directory:

Library/Themes/Carrier Icons/Bundles/com.apple.Unknown

And in this folder i have:

Default_CARRIER_UNKNOWN.png
FSO_CARRIER_UNKNOWN.png

Applied using Winterboard and it didn't work.

So i change the carrier text to AT&T using MIM, too and created the following directory:

Library/Themes/Carrier Icons/Bundles/com.apple.ATT_US

And i renamed the icons:

Default_CARRIER_ATT.png
FSO_CARRIER_ATT.png

Didn't work either.

Any idea?

I thought u do since from your screenies i can see it is replaced with the Maxis icon.

That icon is thru SSH and placing the 50212 folder to Carrier Bundles which works well but since Winterboard can do it, this is much easier to change the carrier logo but somehow, it does not work via Winterboard yet and still finding solutions.

Oh yeah, i'm not very fond on replacing it directly too. Because i like to switch back and forth.

First of all you need to know how carrier bundles work.

Looks like you are not using any custom carrier bundles hence the phone will use the general bundle.

Ok i've tried with mine to change Digi to AT&T and it works. First of all ... how did u put in the carrier bundles folder? Do you have 1 bundle folder named to your carrier and the other one using a symlink with the 502XX folder name (XX refer to mobile prefix no)?

Hi Terence,

Sure you can mate. Actually, most of the mods does not requires you to enter root command. Everything is done via the dot plist which is in the theme. You can do the changes on windows and SSH the theme to your phone.

The "slide to unlock" is a dot string which you need convert via a website, use a text edit software to edit the lines, save it and SSH back to the phone.

Btw, i'm totally not good at root command line stuff. Frozzbyte taught me some fundamental commands yesterday. Learn alot from him. Thanks frozzbyte

Snapshot Lockscreen (credit MacThemes)

Finally..we can take snapshot of the lockscreen.

1) install UIKIT Tools from Cydia
2) Open Terminal

In terminal:
ssh root@your ip address

and SSH in as

user: root or mobile
password: alpine

3) Lock the phone and hit the home button again to bring up the lockscreen (keep the lockscreen shown)
4) run the command "uishoot" (without quotes) in terminal

Terminal will show you where the picture is being captured too.

var/root/Media/DCIM/999APPLE/IMGxxxxxx.PNG

Now we can share our lockscreen..

Frozzbyte was really kind to have spent time with me last week and guided me in changing the carrier icon on my iPhone 2.0.1. So i'm writing up a brief tutorial so the rest could refer. Before that, do take note that this guide is specifically tailored for MAXIS users. The steps are identical for other telcos users but u'll need to find/edit your own plist, etc. Perhaps those who are having them could provide the files. So, here goes:

1. Unzip MYMAXIS.bunlde.zip
2. Browse to System/Library/Carrier Bundles
3. Copy the unzipped folder here
4. Highlight MYMAXIS.bundle folder (single click)
5. Right click on an empty area
6. Select New -> Link
7. Create two new folders and name them 50212 and 50217 respectively
8. Check if you have properly created the symlinks. Double click them.
9. If they are correct, you should be directed to MYMAXIS.bundle
10. Reboot your phone and keep your fingers crossed

2. do i really need to use SSH?can i use iphone browser? (got answer already)

i will add some explanation to your second question. SHH is always preferred over iphonebrowser as it provides more functionality (for example creating folders in between etc)

copy the file LockClock.ttf to /System/Library/Fonts/Cache/LockClock.ttf

* rename the original LockClock font if u feel u still need em'

I'm sure you can still do the mods if you are still one 1.x but the folders organization on 2.x is very different.
