Hello...i have the norton antivirus free trial installed on my PC. It's very annoying and I can't seem to uninstall it. Even if I try to delete the folder away it'll say that the program is running in the background and kenot be deleted. Now that the free trial is up, some stupid window keeps popping up everyday telling me to key in some number shit.

The only bad thing about it is, the real time scan sometimes causes computer start up to be slower, and also sometimes causes the opening of folders to be slower.

yes even when press start button u will feel abit lag. this is wat i dont like about kaspersky and version 5 will somehow add ADS tag to every file they scanned on NTFS partition drive. mad.gif

I feel that Kaspersky Antivirus 5 set at Maximum protection is the best for the following reasons:

- Updates DAILY (sometimes a few hours got new update)
- Scans for ALL KINDS OF VIRUS (most antivirus softwares like Norton and McAfee only give you updates based on your regional settings)
- Has intelligent scan ability (dosent scan same file the next time u run scan unless its been modified, thus reducing scan time; unlike mcafee or norton which totally dosent scan certain file types cos they think its an uncommon virus target)
- Scans all files in all types of archives (eg. .zip , .cab,  etc etc)
- Real time scan will scan all files in the folder automaticly as u open the folder, it does this in the background, this will stop viruses even before you open the file
- Has won the best antivirus software award many many times
- Held a competition where they challenged hackers and programmers to try and make a virus that defeats Kaspersky..... nobody sucseeded.

The only bad thing about it is, the real time scan sometimes causes computer start up to be slower, and also sometimes causes the opening of folders to be slower.

Another bad thing is, Kaspersky Antivirus and Zone Alarm Firewall tends to clash, this will cause your com to crash and it'll give you BSOD even in XP !! I dunno abt other ppl, but this happens to me, so now i use Kaspersky Antivirus 5.0 and Kaspersky Anti Hacker 1.7 (Firewall).

from the way u speak, im thinking: 'this guy knows what he is saying', and u got my attention on Kapersky. thumbup.gif

ive being using mcafee for 2years, ever since v8 came out, ive been using it for long term. i use their firewall too, i just love their 'silent protection' philosophy.

these updates, they apply automatically and download quickly? is kapersky a resource hog? [apart from the startup issue].

how about total scan times? is it efficient?

i try up kaspersky last time, the manual scan take around 15-25min...

regarding the lag of kaspersky, i think is your computer maybe in low performance kua...

coz i using it on a computer with 2.8GB p4 system and 512mb ram for it... seem it looking fine, but if this install in a p3 550 and 128mb ram or below, then it will be a problem, is quite lag...

Yeah, updates download surprisingly fast and they install instantly upon download completion in the background, so it doesn't bother you. It also has automatic update which you can set to scan at any interval as the following:
Every hour / 3 hours / 6 hours / 12 hours / 1 day / 2 days / 3 days / 1 week

It's not a resource hog, it uses very little memory and cpu power.

Total scan time I noticed is slightly longer than Norton. The first Kaspersky scan you do will take a long time, but subsequent scans will be much faster because of their intelligent scan system.

Also, when I used to use Norton, I always kept it updated. But one day, with my friend's recommendation, I decided to shift to Kaspersky, upon completion of the first Kaspersky scan, there were 14 viruses and trojans detected in my laptop that Norton overlooked.

As for another one of my friends, I suggested to him to try Kaspersky because he felt that there were some viruses that his McAfee did not detect. After he did his first scan, Kaspersky detected a few trojans and viruses that McAfee ignored. Also one technician from Acer who attended to my friend's laptop before he used Kaspersky told my friend not to use McAfee because it doesn't scan thoroughly.

Personally, I'd recommend Kaspersky to anybody. As long as you have a P4 comp or laptop, you should be fine with Kaspersky.

well, u better get an antivirus fast, at least get those free one such as AVG or avast.

for normal users, Pc-cillin 2005 is a good choice. I have been using Pc-cillin for few years after swtiching from norton. It is very effective in cleaning out virus compared to Nod32(before version 2).

Currently using kaspersky on my primary PC and Nod32(2.5) on my secondary pc. So far kaspersky is doing a good job( a bit lag compare with pc-cillin 2005) and the latest nod32 2.5 is doing good also, with its additional spyware scan engine.

bear in mind, the clean engine is also important as it repairs the files and registry and not jst deleting the infected files.

Seriously, you can live without antivirus given that you always update your PC and have enough common sense in surfing the web (as in do not simply download doubtful files, avoid visiting potentially malicious websites etc....)

But it is better to be safe than sorry, so you might want to install antivirus for security-wise. flex.gif

Just get AVG/Avast/Antivir if you are not ready to pay anything for antivirus.

well, you can reinstall the norton u have and then uninstall it again, i should work, if not try locating the file thats running in the background and end task it

then delete the file manually. It should solve ur problem. If it dosent, get one of your PC Savvy friends to do it for you or email norton.

You should really really use antivirus. Spyware detectors, firewalls and updates alone arent enough. Malicious codes can still make its way into your comp. Sometimes even the files you download may have viruses in them.

If you're not hardcore on security, maybe you should AT LEAST get the free AVG anti virus.

If u want somebody to help u, u must help urself at the first.

First, uninstall Norton and use other AV which is more better than Norton. Trust me, Norton is useless.

I experienced many Norton users encountered this problem. The Norton was not working after got infected. Double click the Norton icon on tha system tray also no response!

Not quite agree with this...
I have antivirus installed on my compter and haven't encountered any virus for ages already

I just installed it for safety purpose and my PC didn't infected with virus for quite a long time already

It really depends on HOW you use the computer, Internet is just as dangerous as your surfing behavior. Antivirus just acts as a guard to prevent your PC from getting infected.

Just my 2cents...
