if ur on high rams,

i suggest not using too much of ur HDD as virtual memory, too me, swapping too much at times might kill HDD
*
just extra wear and tear on the hdds... bah.. just cauz ur pagefile is large doesnt mean windows will fill it up. however, if a small pagefile is filled up and theres not enough, what happens? i think windows always tries to 'finish using' ram before using the pagefile, at least to an extent tongue.gif

QUOTE(cpkid @ May 31 2005, 09:18 AM)
if not using virtual then kill ram????  tongue.gif

i not really know how to set virtual memory, but i found out from internet the virtual space min set it to be ram size x3 and maximum into 1gb..

i using 512mb ram, but i set it to be 768 and max 1gb...
*
save urself the trouble, just set max and min to 1gb and youre all set laugh.gif

hmm, in my opinion, the most of the antivirus, thier realtime scan is not as efficient(in term of Detecting and Cleaning) as the conventional scan engine. So thats why we still hv to conduct a full system scan weekly or monthly.

well, maybe norton beefed up thier Real Time Scan, thats why it uses up so many resources.
*
heh... lets hope so. norton aint really favoured by many people here... even though its amazingly popular among the horde of users out there...

hmmm hey, maybe u can check ur systems task schedule and change the frequency of norton's liveupdate? unsure.gif

cpkid i agree... when u know more and more stuff about computers, you'll run away from norton.
i dont know why, ive been 'purging' so many computers of viruses and spyware... even though their norton AV is the latest update, alot of viruses cannot be removed by it... the funny thing was it even entered the system in the 1st place...
ive clean their computers and installl MS antispyware [for its auto scanning] and mcafee for them... never hear from them again (which is good, cauz it means no more problesm biggrin.gif)

nonono....i mean, they only update the virus database for live update once a week.

QUOTE
The Intelligent Updater is updated daily, while the LiveUpdate definitions are usually updated weekly.

During a major threat outbreak, however, the LiveUpdate definitions are updated as needed.

Many of the definitions that are added to the daily (Intelligent Updater) definitions are not in the wild, or if they are, they have a very low incidence of infection.

So, while the Intelligent Updater may provide a slightly greater level of protection for a few days (until the zoo and low-level threats are added to the weekly LiveUpdate definitions), for most customers, the protection that is provided by LiveUpdate is more than adequate..

Intelligent Updater = manual update

I feel that Kaspersky Antivirus 5 set at Maximum protection is the best for the following reasons:

- Updates DAILY (sometimes a few hours got new update)
- Scans for ALL KINDS OF VIRUS (most antivirus softwares like Norton and McAfee only give you updates based on your regional settings)
- Has intelligent scan ability (dosent scan same file the next time u run scan unless its been modified, thus reducing scan time; unlike mcafee or norton which totally dosent scan certain file types cos they think its an uncommon virus target)
- Scans all files in all types of archives (eg. .zip , .cab, etc etc)
- Real time scan will scan all files in the folder automaticly as u open the folder, it does this in the background, this will stop viruses even before you open the file
- Has won the best antivirus software award many many times
- Held a competition where they challenged hackers and programmers to try and make a virus that defeats Kaspersky..... nobody sucseeded.

The only bad thing about it is, the real time scan sometimes causes computer start up to be slower, and also sometimes causes the opening of folders to be slower.

Another bad thing is, Kaspersky Antivirus and Zone Alarm Firewall tends to clash, this will cause your com to crash and it'll give you BSOD even in XP !! I dunno abt other ppl, but this happens to me, so now i use Kaspersky Antivirus 5.0 and Kaspersky Anti Hacker 1.7 (Firewall).
