I've done a bit of snooping around and found some good websites that list gigs. So hopefully when I have time, I can head out and check out the local bands.

When i redecorated my house, i threw all my old thrash metal cassettes into the trash with heavy hearted. Sepultura, Death, Slayer, Sodom, Napalm Death, Destrcution to name few.

Now just watch their concert on youtube. Funny to think on those days i only wear those group printed black tshirt every where i go including to lecture hall.

One of my all time favorite album

They started as your run of the mill metalcore band.

From the recent stuff I've heard, they seem to flirt between hard rock and power ballads but throw in metal riffs and other influences.

We're not talking groove like disco or something that makes you want to dance, haha. It has a certain groove to it. It's not super fast like thrash riffs, not fast and complex like death metal riffs. Slower and heavy.

Well, as far as British bands go, I've been listening to a lot of Electric Wizard, and God is an astronaut (ok, technically not British since they're Irish) recently.

Other than that it's been a real mish mash, I've been listening to the latest Burzum album and Sad Legend from Korea, who I think are amazing.

Who are your favorites at the moment?

Cool. thanks for the link. Will give it a look around.

I enjoy thrash as well, all those bands you mentioned are awesome, but overall I much prefer thrash's heavier cousin, death metal.

death metal is too heavy for me. And the musical structure are complex too, thus make it sound less catchy to my ears than thrash metal.

One of my favorite. Tides - The Invisible.
