I usually juz toss the whole thing away when I clean the whole tank. but I got this cute spoon with holes (it came with the toilet) that can pick up the poo and sift the sand away

Yes, they'll poo everywhere included in their food bowl, but they'll only pee at the specific place. It will be much easier for you to keep the tank clean if they are toilet trained.

toilet sand and bath sand is different. I usually put the toilet sand in a bowl then i collect all its poo and the bedding that is wet with pee and put it into the toilet sand.
