lol.. u guys are missing the point of "collecting" and having classic consoles at home.

yes the psp can play it. but does it have the same feel as playing on a TV set complete with the designated controller and etc?

clearly this thread is about old console lovers and collectors. probably you guys are too young to appreciate the old consoles.

keep your psp away from this thread pls.. we know you got the best handheld ever.. [/sarcasm]

NES >>>> PSP..

NES is where great games are born. before that there is the Atari 2600 (the 5200 is useless).

Today's games has lost its touch of staying up late, with the tv on and the lights turn off and nothing but the sound of Super Mario Bros. 3 (or Kid Icarus FTW)playing thru ur tv set, good times. Im lucky to have experience dat.

Feel so happy to realize there are a couple more retro gamers here smile.gif Oh yeah, I'm regretting for not taking care of my 2600, and I think it's lost or thrown away by my mom when I was abroad. My next target now is to get an arcade cabinet, with all the shmups like Raiden, Strikers 1945 etc. If everything goes well, it will be this Saturday.

Still looking for a reliable NES.. saw something called Retro Duo which can play both NES and SNES games, but can't find the NES games that I want to play (all 4 Dragon Ball Z RPGs).

That's what I'm playing at the moment. Still remember the day I play this game on my SNES+UFO (yeah, no money nor place to buy originals back then), it was May 1996, when I was in school holiday, Form 3, about 10+ times after I've completed Final Fantasy V cool2.gif Today's Final Fantasy's are nothing like yesteryears', thus me not playing anymore newer ones since X (and that was well below par at best).

Hah not only that, I remember my dad used to have this log book to keep record of all the high scores (that time no way to save games mah!) just for bragging rights. We'd have neighbors coming over just to outdo each other.

Most of the 2600/colecovision game covers were awesome because they were hand painted works (no photoshop mah!). I suppose it was really a case of judging the book by it's cover then.

Aiyo, don't use helicopter kick. Use super knee kick and the whole game become so easy. I finish DD2 twice a day everyday during school holiday.

i used to have that Casio's handheld ala Game And Watch.

u know, Western Bar, Heli Attack (not sure what it's called).

i remember there's this traditional medicine shop near my house, they have 2 Game And Watch machines that dispenses kacang and you can play the game for 20 sen.

i used to hog the Donkey Kong machine while my dad was getting a haircut next door.

i was 5 back then. wow..

that sure brings up some nice memory. hehehe...
wonder if the old taukeh still keeping that machine.
wonder if i can buy it.. just for collection's sake.

la. i thought u have. if not i can pinjam and try for 1-2 hour. hehehe.
i'm a big fan of "ol school" FF.

FF7 is still bearable with the jump to 3D, FF8, 9, 10, 10-2 just killed it for me.
while FF-12 made me interested in MMORPG thanks to the gameplay (straight away sold my soul to WoW).

i know it's weird, but all these while, my fav FF game would be FF Tactics for the PS1.
that game was deep and killed hundreds and hundreds of hours of my life
i finished it 3 times. uncovered all the secrets on the last run.

haven't touched it till now.
(damn.. where's my PS1 memory card)

FF9 did at least get me hook on FF again after the debacle on FF8. Seriously, where can u find a hero with a tail named after a great football player(zidane), cheeky fellows tongue.gif

For ff tactics, its true. Its a deep game and seriously hard as hell!! Finish it 2 times and by todays standards, its still freakin' hard.

Really? I'm going to arcade shopping later, if I can find one I'll help you get. Please give me more details what you want (number of slots, condition, and any games you are looking for) and I'll see what they have. I'm not selling mine because it is consolized to play on TV like normal console and I got it made from a German friend after a lot of hassles blush.gif

Aiyish - Just come back from shopping.. couldn't get anything for now, waiting for the seller's response to my offer. MVS-1F usually around RM300+ shipped. How are you going to play ler?

technophile - yeah you are most welcome to come over to my place when you visit Sabah, just let me know in advance. And since you like old FF so much, you will regret not playing Panzer Dragoon RPG. Definitely ranked among the best RPGs I've ever played (and I played a lot of pre PS2 ones). And I have 3 Saturns in complete with box in case you are interested cool2.gif

bidfordun - I have some GBA and NDS games, but not selling any of them. Took me ages to find the original cartridges of GBA games (all RPGs) and I really want to keep the NDS ones except a few garbage game which I feel bad for you if you buy them (it was free gift)

Hey gundamalpha and the rest of the retro console freaks here! It's been awhile since my last post in the forums. I've been rather busy and catching up with my new job smile.gif Good to know you have also started a thread here devoted to classic gaming! Some guys over here mentioned that the PSP could replace all the consoles and play those classic titles from the palm of your hand. But from what I experienced, it emulates those games pretty well and yes, I do admire the emulator author for their coding skills and so forth, BUT the actual playing experience is MISSING. I tried playing a Famicom game on the PSP and it felt kinda odd. Nothing beats the real thing. Sitting in front of your tele, deciding which game you wanna play for that evening, then slotting the cartridge in and sit back waiting for the title screen etc. And what about those light phase gun games like Duck Hunt or Wild Gunmen? Sure you can't emulate that experience. However PSP is one of the better machines for emulation. NDS was quite bad (but I'm not too sure how is it right now). I've heard that the GP32 was pretty awesome for emulation. I even tried playing some GG or GB titles on the PSP and it also felt like something's missing. I just feel that each console out there is built for it's own specialty/reason and not to emulate other machines.

As for my current wishlist. It's gotta be the white GG. Has anyone in Malaysia seen the White GG set before? I first saw it in a shop in Komtar Penang. That was back in 91-92 I think. It's super rare - only 10000 units were sold in Japan.

Another one would be the PC Engine LT. Super rare and expensive. I might be able to strike a good deal with someone, and if the deal comes through, I think I'll let go my current PC Engine GT (since both of them perform almost identical). Any takers for the GT? smile.gif If yes, I'll post some pics at the classified sections for you to checkout the condition.

That's my rant for today. Happy gaming!

White GG is really rare, and I saw some are fetching quite high price $199 and above for the complete set (with the carying case).

As for PC Engine LT, you might consider to find an adaptor to connect cdrom2. But this one also became rare, but still popping out in auction sites. Pity that the GT cannot connect to cdrom2, so it can only play hu-cards tongue.gif

Hey man. Yeah, not many have heard about it! I got the opportunity to see one when I was a kid. I'm so glad I finally secured one. Just hoping to see it next week. I'll post some pics here.

Yup the LT can be connected to the CDROM2 base unit directly without any adapter, but for SuperCDROM2, an adapter is required (and like you said, rare to find one now). The seller has shipped the LT and hopefully I'll be able to see it soon (crossing fingers)

In the meantime, here's a setup that I've always wanted:

This is due to aging of the game gear and it's prone to have LCD and sound problem. The cause of this is the faulty capacitor which needs to be replaced. I have a link to do this, if you're comfortable with soldering and replacing electronic component wink.gif

Well as long you can still play it, just leave it that way then. My GG is also a bit blurry, luckily the sound is still very loud. But it's not really bothering me though, it's still lots of fun tongue.gif

the guy ran away n nowhere to be found (yg malunya org melayu kita sendiri)... i lost a lot of stuff... aldy paid ... was shocked that one box didn't make it...

RS is an awesome game... quite late tho... am happy with Treasure's effort.. Guardian Heroes also the best...
so far RS is very limited in number and very pricy... tried to get one last year (from US) ... USD170 plus shipping USD30... thats USD200...
most expensive i've seen is at USD300... also careful dealing with ppl online... some try to sell ahem version of RS at USD100...
playasia out of stock also

even ST-V boards expensive... few RS cart around above USD100 each...

found out rent a hero on sega MD is rare title... shame the manual koyak... box n cart still intact

Hi, actually Radiant Silvergun is not really the rarest game. But due to high demand for RS, causes the price to skyrocket. People thinks it's one of the best shooter available for Saturn, some people thinks it's the most genius shooter design.

That's really bad, for the expensive items you should handcarry them instead actually.

Last time I saw someone wanted to sell off his COMPLETE collection of Japan Saturn on E-Bay for 19.999,99 Euro shocking.gif

He needs a full two 5-storey rack to store all his games ...

But I don't think anyone will buy his collection for that price sweat.gif

Because the company collapse while half way printing this game, only 5000 or less copies printed. It's a very special game, a rare 3D game from that era that still look decent these days

Yes, now this is what I called rare. I played it before, the graphic animation of the bosses is quite good actually. It feels like Castlevania, but the reason for the high price is not really that it's the greatest game of course, but due to the limited number copy being produced. In fact no matter how good is the game, as long it's in abundant or has been reprinted, it's somehow reducing its value. It's following the economic rule of supply and demand, I guess laugh.gif

Wow.. Some serious Saturn talk recently here biggrin.gif Don't wish to interrupt. But yeah, Saturn is also one of my wishlist. Nights is a good game, and so is their other 2D titles. Anyone played Shinobi on Saturn before? Awesome graphics!! Heard there are a few variants of Saturn in Japan.. The VSaturn made by Victor, and I think there are other limited editions (like the skeleton Saturn) Maybe you avid collectors should hunt them down? biggrin.gif

Hi u're welcome to join us laugh.gif

I just like to play games for fun and a bit of collecting. So far I only have one only, not the fancy Victor or Hitachi one, just the white one. The different is for these kind of Saturn they included the VCD card, while other type of Saturn has to buy the card seperately. The skeleton edition is quite nice, but not really within my budget as well tongue.gif

8 years ago, i remembered bidding on ebay for SEGA Saturn SGX system. Later got outbidded by several large margin...

Made back in the late 90’s by a company called SunSeibu, The SGX is basically a modified SEGA Saturn mounted in a heavy-duty metal enclosure with a coin-op mechanism. It also has a special seven-CD changer for easy switching between multiple games. The box has standard video and audio and controller ports so you can hook it up to any monitor and play.

Did u guys still play chu chu rocket on dc? those days played multiplayer and online a lot... best part.. got it for free from Sega Europe.. at the time they giveaway as u register sega online service..

Yes, the problem with most of the dreamcast is with its lens. U can try to tweak your lens though, before deeming it not working. If you can open your Dreamcast of course brows.gif

lens not reading no more...

open dreamcast is easy... look at power supply circuit... burnt smell... also in the past dc consoles have problem with power supply to the mainboard (the pins connection sometimes rust)

used to play dc without the top casing...

i've used dreamkey in UK, for web browsing... give it a go...

btw ... look at that collections... simply nice... rclxms.gif

Seems that ur lid is damaged. U can easily remove the top part of DC actually, then maybe u can check what's wrong with it. If you have a non-working DC u can just swap the top part of it with ur working DC.

Anyway the PAL base of the cd/ gdrom (where u put ur cd) is actually nicer since it has 2 soft cushions on the base, rather than JAP or US one (which don't have this). It can help to reduce chance of scratching ur cd actually, since ur cd will not be in direct contact with the base.

Yes, it's quite easy actually since u don't need any special screwdriver to open the DC...

Wow, why u always play without the top casing ??? it's not like Neo Geo CDZ or X360 where it may help to reduce overheat rite ? I'm sure it's not due overheating reason rolleyes.gif

Yes Gundamalpha collection is very nice and clean. Mine are mostly quite yellowed for the Nintendo line-ups tongue.gif

Wah.. Super Famicom/Nes collection! One of my dream machines from the 90s too! You know when I was a kid, I only had gone through the Famicom era. Never owned any 16 bit monsters. Well, if the time's right. I might get a couple soon tongue.gif

I dunno guys, but I kinda felt that Super Famicom games are more polished and better looking compared to Gameboy Advance, which is supposedly more powerful. Maybe developers have gotten lazy. However the ports for all the super mario series were awesome! And Metroid too.. The first ever cartridge I had for the GBA was Wario Advance, and that game ROCKS!

playing w/o top casing.. not always lar.. when something goes wrong with dc not reading the disc or fail to power-up... can do diagnostic run... shame really it died..

i have spare jap dc now... still ok

imho dc is very appealing console... since most of all sega's console before dc are all in black color... except saturn gone black in us and europe, jap gone grey n white

Found my old original MD cartridges while looking for my stuff in my old cupboard. Nothing to shout about coz only 5 games... haha.. laugh.gif laugh.gif But, that's the only amount of original games that I can afford back in the early to mid 90's, as a young schooling teenager.

Some are without casing and manuals as I'm unable to find them. sad.gif

For the MD2 it's using 10V, while the older MD1 using 9V (U can see the voltage spec on the bottom of your MD console). If you have a famicom, the adapter will also working with MD and PC-Engine too, as they are about the same (+/-) voltage and are DC. But do not use the NES adapter as it's not DC but AC I believe, so pls don't do this unless you want to fry your adapter (and possibly your console) rolleyes.gif

Yes, I have also Mega Key 2. For console of certain region, u cannot just put the cart inside the console so it serves as an adapter. I'm not sure whether it's only due to the different cart shape, but I heard that some games have a software region lock-out. Also there's a jumper you can set on the Mega Key (to set whether your console JPN, EUR or US), so it can be used on different consoles.

Chronims, thanks for the valuable information. So, it must be DC type and not AC right, bro? This is the exact adaptor right?

http://cgi.ebay.com.my/SEGA-MEGA-DRIVE-2-A...emZ380077776931

I have a question. What does the "INPUT: AC100V" mean? Does it have to be "AC100V" and not "AC110V"?

As for the Mega Key, mine jumper switches at the back of it too. I seem to have peeled of the yellow sticker for the jumper settings on the cart itself (when I was younger). Now I don't know the correct settings for each region. sad.gif doh.gif

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. thumbup.gif

AC100/110V means the voltage on the wall socket.. that's US/JP standard. M'sia uses 220-260V, so you have to be careful on this

Yes, it's DC. Just like Gundamalpha told u, 100V is Japan, 110-120V is US normally, so even for people in US (when they use JPN console) they should use the stepdown converter as the extra 10-20V can cause extra heat.

If u have 100V/ 110-120V adapter you definitely need a stepdown converter, because MY uses 220-240V outage. You can buy this in many electronic/ computer shops. Or you can find asian/ australian/ european MD2 adapter which has an input of 220-240V, so you can just plug straight away. Or you can buy an auto-sensing adapter (3rd party) which can auto adjust 100-240V, which some Ebay sellers from HK has to sell (but dunno whether will last as long the original or not).

Yes mine still has the yellow sticker in tact. If u need a reference for this, u can ask me later or u can google urself laugh.gif

LOL! with the lyrics ... at more options

++Intro++

Yea YEA
can I make it clear?
its NES 4 life
you know thats right
f*** those people with ps3's and 360's that aint old school
get outta here with that shit!
You know how it goes

++Verse 1++

Lets, Go, back to the old days and gaming ways
the futures not bright it's no place to stay
back when a cartage was five by five
no f***ing Wii-motes, Nintendo hi-fi
when 8 bits of glory, told the whole story
in the electronic gaming category
now theres real time physics, 3d character maps
motion capture hardware and all that crap
four buttons and a D-pad was all you'd see
on your consoles gaming peripheries
back when I was gaming on my daddies knee
and Sony only made shitty TV's
when Microsoft had windows 1.3
and there was no such thing as an online fee
When your second controller came bundled for free
Mike Tysons punch out taught us all briefly
how to float like a butterfly sting like a bee
Nintendo held it down tight from A to B
when I see things today I must decree
that 1985 was the place to be
DJ Garry Muzak's on a lyrical spree
spittin out Rhymes like a cracked out banshee
shoutin out to all my CS homies
Held down by the weight of society

++Chorus++

All the games that you ever sat and played
owe their start to the NES what paved the way
Get up on yo feet and let me hear you say
you'll play NES till your dyin day

NES Yo
still fresh Yo
party rock Yo
to the beat Yo
on the street Yo
move your feet Yo
NES Yo
party rock Yo

++Verse 2++

Step up show your love for the power glove
givin you the advantage to rise above
we were playin with power
in our darkest hour
blastin through castlevania's haunted towers
dance to the beat and play some track and field
back before DDR could even hold appeal
NES knew the only way to keep it real
Was official quality approval seals
I remember when Donkey Kong was the bad guy
when Toad was just a know nothing small fry
if it moved and you touched it you'd probably die
to float up to that warp pipe high in the sky
remember when you thought Samus Arayn was a man?
look me in the eyes homes tell me you can!
there's nothing at all better than the first day
that the legend of Zelda had it's first play
on your NES or Famicom
don't lie to me son that shit was the bomb!
if you ever got tired of the gaming tirade
you could watch yourself some Saturday Supercade
Super Mario brothers super show
and Captain N the game master all in a row
ya'll think I'm not a serious rapper?
check out the business end of my Nintendo Zapper

++[Chorus]++

++Verse 3++

Yo, G, got a problem with me?
and all my NES playin' Homies?
step it up son let's have a brawl
plug in urban champion and your face I'll maul!
I don't like your style or your disposition
and your anti Nintendo superstitions
what the hell did you have growin' up?
ColecoVision? Wow that sucks!
shut the f*** up and get outta my face
for the sake of the Nintendo playin' race
we'll stomp your ass in Blades of steel
get off your feet bend knee and kneel
to the Jesus Christ of console gaming
that succeeded without polygonal framing
b**** you know it's the truth don't deny
hook a NES up and try
the system that blows your house into the sky
playing with power does not justify!
there's never gonna be a better system around
then the first NES that you ever found
it's the best, the greatest, the motherf***in' king!
clap yo hands to the beat and sing
check it out home boys, here's the arrangement

Ya la... Semua tahap dewa2.  notworthy.gif
Btw, just to share with u retro guys, was browsing thru playasia. I found some oldskool console on sale.

Super Famicom Jr.

Super Famicom Box- But no box

Sega Saturn Console - Victor V-Saturn

Saturn Jap

Neo Geo CD
Sega Megadrive for RM364?? Nahh.

Go go and buy.. whistling.gif
*
Play-asia's price mostly are at the high range of the item price, but sometimes they got stuff with good price too.

-Super Famicom Jr. - at this price is quite high and no games included, shipping also @ extra cost.

-Super Famicom Box - this is an unit that usualy used on the hotel at that time, just like the famicom box, quite a rare item. But no games included.

-Sega Saturn Victor V - Nice for collecting, price gone down (recommended) tongue.gif

-Saturn Jap - If it's a mint ok lah (but quite common version of Saturn), no games included.

-Neo geo cd - A bit above the market price, with no games included.

-Sega Mega drive - It's a nice NTSC unit (instead of PAL that we normally have in asia), but the price is very high.

The bad thing about play-asia for buying the 2nd hand console is, u might not know what to expect on the condition of the item. If you're lucky you get a mint item, but since this is 2nd hand mostly there's something that makes it not new (marking, incomplete). For completeness, luckily they still include the description but for the exact condition of the item unfortunately no description (and the photo's actually a stock one). But still recommend it, if you cannot find it elsewhere with cheaper price though smile.gif

They prefer to get their stock from JPN I guess, but actually in many Asian country there are lots of US & PAL, PS1 & PS2 consoles in the circulation.

But I think a lot of people selling off their PS1 & PS2 in the garage sale forum, it shouldn't be too difficult to get one right ? 1 out of 5, I bet it's a US system. Unless you want it in a specific condition & completeness and certain more valuable PS1/ PS2 series tongue.gif

NES is my first ever console that my dad bought me.

So I'm still quite attached to it since it gave me many gaming experience and memory, playing together with friends at that time.

What's your first ever console btw ?

Retro Gamer and SEGA fans please help.

Does Game Genie work on a JPN SEGA MegaDrive?

I need to bypass MegaDrive Region lock on a JPN MD,
but not sure whether Game Genie would work on a JPN MD.

Extensive research on Google doesn't really clear doubt....

I do believe Game Genie does not have region lock embedded, so it should be safe. However there games that have region lock chip, so you can't simply plug and play. Games like Sonic 3 (weirdly not & Knuckles though), Gunstar, Contra, PSIV and Shinobi III are region locked, which are possible to bypass through Game Genie, but you need the right codes. The whole region lock thingie made me sold my Mega CD and settled for a CDX since, for some odd reasons, Genesis games are much cheaper than JP MD games. No problem playing imported Mega CD games too cool2.gif

If i dun want to be bothered by MegaDrive region lock, which iteration is the best?
MegaDrive "SKU" is really a "parade", there are X'eye, CDX, Mega Jet.... even a Aiwa Mega CD.

Hopefully to get a MD that could bypass region lock, and can support 32X & Mega CD,
Aiwa Mega CD, Mega Jet seems out of the question for this..

The region lock is software based, so you must use specific hardware from specific region to bypass the chip embedded carts. There's an ultimate solution to this (cost close to nothing) and that is adding a region switch to your console. You need to have good soldering skill to do this though. Would you be interested?

You still need to do hardware mod to achieve that. You should look at Nintendo's SNES/SFC and N64, they had the best region lock in history.

My soldering skill is zero.

You mean that the chip embedded carts are "hardcore" region locked? (Cannot be bypass)

No, this gen belongs to 360. Modding still can bypass Wii's region coding, but still no solution for 360.

Too much of current gen talk, let's go back to RETRO! Have been spending time on PS1 RPGs lately, and finished Parasite Eve. Still can't decide which one to play next since most of them I haven't played before blush.gif

Yes. Mine is a JPN MegaDrive, but i only have JPN games,
which is quite pricey compare to the US one.

That is why I am trying to bypass the troublesome Region Lock,
so i can save more on my collection.

Also thinking of adding a MEGA CD and 32X soon.

Does Mega CD have region lock hardware wise? I know the games can be bypassed through a cart, but not so sure about the hardware itself. Most probably neogeo is getting a JP Mega CD anyway I guess.

And what about 32X? I think it's region locked right? If that's the case JP MD owners would be doomed, since JP 32X games either sucks or overpriced. 3rotor might be able to enlighten us a bit here :here:

Buy the game (Battle Garegga), beat the game once (don't care how many credits) and watch the superplay and learn why this game is unversally recognized as the shmup with deepest mechanics. Every time you suicide, collect item, bombing and even how rapid you shoot affects the game difficulty nod.gif I'm still learning this game every time I play it.

How much did u get it?

I haven't try Soukyugerentai... also Thunderforce 6 on ps2... cry.gif

How u maintain your retro consoles, gundam? any tips...

So far i know
- keep it away from serious dirt/dust and moisture.
- keep the console systems in a dust-free place
- keep the games in a tub or protective case/sleeve, they would last longer.
- the only things that really ever go bad are the batteries.

I don't really have specific way to keep up the retros, just turn them on for hours once a while to make sure the lens still reading and battery still running. Also keep them out from the sun, especially white/grey consoles

Oh, it's a problem with the controller port, not the controllers. You must be pluggin in and unplug while your DC is on? hmm.gif Never do that

Some shmups you shouldn't miss on Saturn shahreza:
1. Battle Garegga
2. Batsugun (ancestor)
3. Cotton 2
4. Cotton Boomerang
5. Thunder Force V
6. Layer Section
7. Shienryu

Those Strikers 1945 and DonPachis are better on PS1

Buy the game (Battle Garegga), beat the game once (don't care how many credits) and watch the superplay and learn why this game is unversally recognized as the shmup with deepest mechanics. Every time you suicide, collect item, bombing and even how rapid you shoot affects the game difficulty nod.gif I'm still learning this game every time I play it.

I like Cotton 100% on SNES, but i checked price for 3 & 4,
forgot the figure but remember it is expensive.

No, I haven't used those before as I already own the Agetec stick. You may want to take off the whole thing from bottom and clean the inside and check the connections, shouldn't be hard. If they are snap fits you could even replace the buttons, but I'm not sure what buttons might fit hmm.gif

Hello!

Didn't know such a thread existed :-O
Anyway someone here was asking if you could play MegaCD PAL/JPN games on a US CDX, you can but you need a Pro Datels Pro CDX adapter, there were 2 types, one for a model one genesis and one for the model 2, I am using a model 2 on a US CDX, so far it works on most PAL/JPN imports, I bought this to play Keio Flying Squadron (JPN) cheapest version out there, lol, but fortunately managed to score a mint complete US copy for next to nothing.

Regarding the game genie I think you need to enter codes, I personally use the Super Mega Key with the dip switches so I can change between PAL/US/JPN games.
Works on my Sega Nomad too.

Has anyone played any of Capcom's VS series on Saturn? I have a 3rd party 1MB/4MB RAM cartridge, which doesn't seem to work on 4MB mode. I'm really itching to know how does it look and play on Saturn. Yes, you can already play the actual arcade version via emulation, but I get a kick out of playing kick-ass ports on home consoles.

Of course I do play the VS series on Saturn. I'm assuming you are using the earlier model cart where only X-Men VS SF can work. Better get the newer one from PA, it can load every single 4M required game on Saturn smile.gif

I can still appreciate Virtual On even to this day. Played the game throughout the whole of 1997-1998. It's pretty much burned to my retina now. Which is probably why I'm kinda clouded by nostalgia, tech be darned. Oratario Tangram is definitely the better game, but the 1st will always be something special to me.

Added on February 6, 2009, 4:01 pmI can get the item cheap, but the problem is shipping, as you said it's bulky and heavy hmm.gif

I remember someone offered RM100 to get a special model PS1 from Japan for him last time doh.gif The shipping already cost more than that, and that particular PS1 cost more than RM200 doh.gif

100X and 300X model
You oldest console is older than mine laugh.gif I think my oldest console is either PCE Duo or SNES

@triple B - I'm not sure, because I really don't know how heavy it is but I would estimate shipping alone cost more than RM150

Yeah, it was gold for just plug and play and you can enjoy the game to the fullest.. unlike now where you have pay again after buying the game to enjoy. I don't play game in the plane since most of the buttons are broken and have to pause every time the pilot make stupid announcements tongue.gif

I don't have extra since NGCD and NGCDZ use different ones. I know where to get but then might as well get a new unit since it's not that expensive

Bro, u mean those made in china Mega Drive 2 consoles? I tried buying one of those last week, and to my horror, it is unable to play most of my MD cartridges (black blank screen). Even the AC Adaptor has a different power output and can't be used with my original Mega Drive 2 console.

Hmm... any idea why it can't play most of my MD games? Now I'm beginning to think that it could be most of my MD cartridges are already faulty. sigh..

Seeing you guys got the fake MD and due to compatibility issues, some fake games are readily available and here's my recommendation (from what I've seen in the market):

Contra Hard Corps
Castlevania Bloodlines
Yu Yu Hakusho
Gunstar Heroes
Shinobi 3
Sonic & Knuckles

Hi, is this the one with the built-in games ? because this copy looks almost exactly the same with the original, but with built-in games and no connector for sega mega cd expansion.

I would recommend to buy the original Mega drive though, it's still the best there is to play MD games with full compability.

The compability with the various version of MD carts is not good for the 3rd party MD console. I would suggest u getting the original MD console and this would have better compability towards any version of MD/ genesis (ori/ fake) carts (with converter needed for some carts).

Hi, is this the one with the built-in games ? because this copy looks almost exactly the same with the original, but with built-in games and no connector for sega mega cd expansion.

I would recommend to buy the original Mega drive though, it's still the best there is to play MD games with full compability.

*
Yes, chronims. That's the one. It looks exactly like the MD2, but extremely lightweight and comes with built in 300++ games. laugh.gif Clearly there are no connectors for the Mega-CD expansion, hence it can't be connected to a Mega-CD and yet the box says so. doh.gif Well, can't complain much... Luckily it's cheap.
I'm still looking for an AC Adaptor with the exact 9V power rating output for my original Mega Drive 2 though.

EDIT: Correction, it's 10V, not 9V. Anyway, the AC Adaptor that came with the fake MD2 has a 10V output, but the connector doesn't seem to fit on my ori MD2. rclxub.gif

Yes, one of the shops in Sungei Wang is still selling this. I have another fake version which has a very bad compability, so some of my carts can play, others cannot. But when I used the original console, it would play all the carts without problem rclxms.gif

I think the adapter can be used with ori MD2 (If it's AC to DC10V), you only need a converter for the input connector (different size) of the adapter. Note that DC9V is used for MD1, while DC10C for MD2. Also note that both MD adapter's current rating is 850mA.

Thanks bro. I checked on the fake MD2 AC Adaptor and it's current rating is 1.2A, which is 1200mA, right? But, as you mentioned, it still can be used as long as it's AC to DC10V, right? And, may I know how does the converter for the input connector roughly looked like? Coz, I think it may be convenient for me just to buy the converter.

Current rating.. higher means no harm to the console nor the adapter itself, just make sure the rating isn't lower smile.gif I'm quite surprised you haven't found a compatible one nizam sweat.gif May be I should head out to the electronic store sometime, need to buy some stuff brows.gif

gundam, thanks. So higher rating is ok, huh. nod.gif I'm slightly busy these days. Only manage to visit the electronic store once, and that was a very brief visit as I was in a hurry. sad.gif But now, since I already have an AC Adaptor from the fake MD2, I probably only need the converter connector as previously mentioned by chronims.

It;s basically a converter to adjust the head size of your adapter. I think your MD2 console should be fine with 1.2mA, but if higher than this I don't really recommend it as it may fry your console. Also after finish playing, better unplug the adapter so it will not become too hot. Hope it's helpful for u.

No, mine is the black coloured box (2008 version). I'll try take pic soon.

@gundam: For me, I have more interest towards a 32X rather than a CDX actually. Does the SEGA Neptune (Genesis+32X) was ever being released?

Hmm..never played/seen anyone playing 32X games also.

I've seen couples of shops in sg.wang using their Mega CD/CD-X as demo back then. I love that jet fighter game(I forgot the title) using using real cutscene as gameplay. Can someone enlighten me?

laugh.gif Ya la, I know good games are almost non-existent for it. laugh.gif I only want it for VF and Virtua Racing Deluxe. Yeah, I know people will say that if I want VF, better get the Saturn version. But I just want to see the game in action on the 32X. gundam you have it (32X), right? Great collection you have there drool.gif

Regarding the melting cables, make sure you don't stretch them when you tie them and never ever use rubber band. I noticed cable melting only happen on 3rd party peripherals.. all the ori so far so good.

1 thing I would like to comment though, why get an AES instead of MVS?

coz AES is something tat i wish to have when i was a kid. it juz to full fill my collection not bcoz of the enhancement of MVS. if i got the change mayb i will get MVS after i get AES. too bad gundamalpha is way too far. if not i will sure get a chance to try on the MVS too.

oh ya regarding the cable thingy...how if i keep it in other box(bigger 1) instead of the ori box, coz mayb the compound is too tight for those controller and adapter. hehe.. is tat a good idea?

It's not about the enhancement MVS will receive, but it's the pricing of the games. AES games on average cost 5 to 100 times more than MVS, so if it's for the sake of playing games MVS is the way to go.

I haven't had any problem putting consoles and accessories in their original casing hmm.gif NGCDZ can testified that

how abt the enviroment u keep ur console? is ur precious console all keep in aircon room? any sunlight?

feel bad when i saw the cable like melting.

If the Dreamcast has really been modded, then yes you can play NTSC/U and PAL discs. However, most Dreamcast systems I've seen (or own) are never modded. Back then, I bought a NTSC/J title, and tried to run it on my NTSC/U Dreamcast. I couldn't run it without modding of course. However, you can use a utility disc called Action Replay CDX. After loading the utility, swap out the disc for your game disc, and play! Not all games can be run using Action Replay though. A modchip is still the best way to bypass region lock.

Ok, S4PH and tripleB, thank you for your answers. You have been very helpful. So, in this case, any modded DC will do to play any original DC games from any region?

Modded for something else means modded to play backup games, I presume. laugh.gif I'm slightly confused.....because, if a DC is modded to play backup games, can it play original games from other regions also?

You don't need to mod to play back ups, just depending on the DC's version but I don't know how to differentiate them. I use boot disc for imports, which also require DC's that can play back ups.

Yeah, very hard to find now. I got mine from lik-sang.com. Otherwise you can burn your own boot disc.. Utopia or something. But make sure you only use Utopia on NTSC console, never on PAL because it will display inceorrectly if you do.

I have not purchased a DC yet. blush.gif Will try to get by the end of this month, hopefully. sweat.gif I'm thinking of buying and collecting NTSC/UC games for it. As an American DC is quite hard to find locally, that's why I was wondering whether Japanese ones are able to play those NTSC/UC games. Honestly, I didn't know that Dreamcasts are not needed to be modded to play backups. I learned something today. biggrin.gif

its something to do with the bios/os which was hardwired into the machine . seems there was a software loophole etc which allowed the cd-r to be run

Old is gold, my 1st ever console is Atari with pre installed 8games maybe.
At the generation it seems a good hobby. It was borrow & never return.
I have to save angpow money just to get this.

Then comes Mirco Genious, my fav game Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Ryūkenden. Cuba wars, slamander, many good games & forgot titles. Again console were borrow & never return.

Never owned the Nitendo, as it was too expansive that time, but still like the Ikari that is stuck in my mind.

Sega Megadrive, just for mortal kombat, sonic, landstalker , sinobi & many more. Console still have but never touch for long.

N64, golden eye, & some CD's invented by HK fellers using CD that recorded a few games inside. about 30games per cd.
It's called the Doctor V in order to activate you need a original game & load the CD. Still have & this is a great invention.

PS/PS2 - my payback era started when i join Sony Malaysia as a PS promoter in 1996/97. good contacts good game good life.

planning to get PSP to load classic such as Contra, Ninja Gaiden & many can't recall title (now is 7am lah)

dunno if you ever heard a game called Body Hazard ?
i never forget this game, it quite sick & weird. Go & get it. then you know..

Arcade era grow in late 80's - Street fighter 1 (reversal play) Golden Axe 1, & gemini wings, double dragon - abobo...
midway 1942,1945,1945x. fuu..
