Hey gundamalpha and the rest of the retro console freaks here! It's been awhile since my last post in the forums. I've been rather busy and catching up with my new job smile.gif Good to know you have also started a thread here devoted to classic gaming! Some guys over here mentioned that the PSP could replace all the consoles and play those classic titles from the palm of your hand. But from what I experienced, it emulates those games pretty well and yes, I do admire the emulator author for their coding skills and so forth, BUT the actual playing experience is MISSING. I tried playing a Famicom game on the PSP and it felt kinda odd. Nothing beats the real thing. Sitting in front of your tele, deciding which game you wanna play for that evening, then slotting the cartridge in and sit back waiting for the title screen etc. And what about those light phase gun games like Duck Hunt or Wild Gunmen? Sure you can't emulate that experience. However PSP is one of the better machines for emulation. NDS was quite bad (but I'm not too sure how is it right now). I've heard that the GP32 was pretty awesome for emulation. I even tried playing some GG or GB titles on the PSP and it also felt like something's missing. I just feel that each console out there is built for it's own specialty/reason and not to emulate other machines.

As for my current wishlist. It's gotta be the white GG. Has anyone in Malaysia seen the White GG set before? I first saw it in a shop in Komtar Penang. That was back in 91-92 I think. It's super rare - only 10000 units were sold in Japan.

Another one would be the PC Engine LT. Super rare and expensive. I might be able to strike a good deal with someone, and if the deal comes through, I think I'll let go my current PC Engine GT (since both of them perform almost identical). Any takers for the GT? smile.gif If yes, I'll post some pics at the classified sections for you to checkout the condition.

That's my rant for today. Happy gaming!

White GG is really rare, and I saw some are fetching quite high price $199 and above for the complete set (with the carying case).

As for PC Engine LT, you might consider to find an adaptor to connect cdrom2. But this one also became rare, but still popping out in auction sites. Pity that the GT cannot connect to cdrom2, so it can only play hu-cards  tongue.gif
*
Hey man. Yeah, not many have heard about it! I got the opportunity to see one when I was a kid. I'm so glad I finally secured one. Just hoping to see it next week. I'll post some pics here.

Yup the LT can be connected to the CDROM2 base unit directly without any adapter, but for SuperCDROM2, an adapter is required (and like you said, rare to find one now). The seller has shipped the LT and hopefully I'll be able to see it soon (crossing fingers)

In the meantime, here's a setup that I've always wanted:

Wow.. Some serious Saturn talk recently here biggrin.gif Don't wish to interrupt. But yeah, Saturn is also one of my wishlist. Nights is a good game, and so is their other 2D titles. Anyone played Shinobi on Saturn before? Awesome graphics!! Heard there are a few variants of Saturn in Japan.. The VSaturn made by Victor, and I think there are other limited editions (like the skeleton Saturn) Maybe you avid collectors should hunt them down? biggrin.gif

Wah.. Super Famicom/Nes collection! One of my dream machines from the 90s too! You know when I was a kid, I only had gone through the Famicom era. Never owned any 16 bit monsters. Well, if the time's right. I might get a couple soon tongue.gif

I dunno guys, but I kinda felt that Super Famicom games are more polished and better looking compared to Gameboy Advance, which is supposedly more powerful. Maybe developers have gotten lazy. However the ports for all the super mario series were awesome! And Metroid too.. The first ever cartridge I had for the GBA was Wario Advance, and that game ROCKS!

Hey guys.. Sorry for the longgg absense here. I've been rather busy. Last Friday, I finally received the original Nintendo Famicom!! Semi complete (it was only missing the AC Adapter and the 75/300 ohm RF Adapter) Other than that, it looks very sharp for something that's made in 1980s! (I reckon mine is made around 86, as it came with lots of Famicom Disks pamplets).

The Box.. Very sharp looking!

All the paperwork that was in the box!

The console when I first got it. It looks alot dirtier than what the camera picked up.

user posted image

Here's what it currently looks like after tearing it apart and cleaning it up. The RF socket was quite corroded.

Bought Akoumajo Special as my first ORI famicom game! I used to play this one as a kid. Now if someone can help me pass Stage 5's boss which is a quiz and I can't read Jap!!

Yeah, so there you have it. Just wanna share this happy moment with you guys here. I used to own a gray Famiclone when I was younger. And also a whole lot of pirated carts. Finally I'm able to own the real deal!! This console means alot to me. Even more than your average PS3s and WIIs. This console started it all. I'm ever so curious to try out the Famicom Disk System too. And good news is it's on the way! Have to expect some repair though as the belt has a tendency to give way.

Cheers!

(ps : If any of you willing to donate or part with your old Famicom games, let me know!)

Hey thanks man. The Famicom certainly brings back alot of memories. Having sat down infront of the same old Sony Trinitron TV we got some 15 years ago and playing back classic games like Akoumajo Special really make me feel like a kid again!! I'm so loving it.. Now I should be hunting somemore Famicom games.. Ahh.. Turtles 2 Arcade, Tiny Tunes, Chip and Dales, Rockman, Castlevania, Kage, Recca , SMB, SMB3, Double dragon, CONTRA.. Man.. too many titles to name here..

Hey Gundamalpha! Long time no see. Thanks for the complimentsman.. Hmm I sorta almost complete my handheld collection (just missing the Gameboy color). Anyways, yeah.. I think I'm starting with consoles now.. Slowly.. tongue.gif But I wanna concerntrate on Famicom for now.. Game carts, pheripherals, etc..

How about you my friend? Still can't get enough of the Saturn huh? wink.gif Cheers man..

Yeah, you are right. There is a turbo pad for the famicom which plugs into the ext port. It is made by Hudson.

Sony S4PH (lol). Yeah we here in Malaysia was plagued by the invasion of the FamiClones. I have never seen an Ori Famicom being sold in shops here even once. I'm not surprised if you thought yours was original (as I also thought mine was when I first got it) But it was cool looking. White and Gray color scheme, and it has orange turbo buttons. I think it looked sleek and wouldn't mine buying one if I see them again... Mine got busted by my bro's friend when he got excited and accidently pulled out the eject slot! I suppose it can be repaired, but we didn't care about it and just left it there and eventually threw it away when we moved to the new house. doh.gif

Hey, yeah I remembered that MicoGenius model! At first I thought it's a handheld version of the Famicom, complete with it's own LCD screen and is also a TV Tuner. Haha. It's a cool piece of engineering though, but sadly wasn't good enough like you said tongue.gif

I hooked up the Famicom on my TV, which fortunately still supports it using RF connection. It really brings me back in time.. I was glued to it, initially wanted to do a test run, but ended up wanting to complete the game! I finally gave up in the last stage after numerous attempts to beat the final boss. Now I need more Famicom cartridges.
Any of you guys wanna donate your pirate carts? whistling.gif Lol..

Yeah, the ori Famicom's jack are tight as they were just made yesterday. I still can't believe mine was manufactured in 1986. She still looks hot! Even when she's not plugged in, I could just sit there and admire her body. Yeah, I'm slowly becoming a retro nut.. icon_question.gif
