8 years ago, i remembered bidding on ebay for SEGA Saturn SGX system. Later got outbidded by several large margin...

Made back in the late 90’s by a company called SunSeibu, The SGX is basically a modified SEGA Saturn mounted in a heavy-duty metal enclosure with a coin-op mechanism. It also has a special seven-CD changer for easy switching between multiple games. The box has standard video and audio and controller ports so you can hook it up to any monitor and play.

Did u guys still play chu chu rocket on dc? those days played multiplayer and online a lot... best part.. got it for free from Sega Europe.. at the time they giveaway as u register sega online service..
*
Oh man! Do u have any more info on this SGX system?
Like a website or whatever, that sounds very interesting....

Tonight, if you still own a SEGA Saturn,
remember to turn it on with Night.... into Dream!!!

To all Retro-gamers,
Merry Christmas!

Retro Gamer and SEGA fans please help.

Does Game Genie work on a JPN SEGA MegaDrive?

I need to bypass MegaDrive Region lock on a JPN MD,
but not sure whether Game Genie would work on a JPN MD.

Extensive research on Google doesn't really clear doubt....

I do believe Game Genie does not have region lock embedded, so it should be safe. However there games that have region lock chip, so you can't simply plug and play. Games like Sonic 3 (weirdly not & Knuckles though), Gunstar, Contra, PSIV and Shinobi III are region locked, which are possible to bypass through Game Genie, but you need the right codes. The whole region lock thingie made me sold my Mega CD and settled for a CDX since, for some odd reasons, Genesis games are much cheaper than JP MD games. No problem playing imported Mega CD games too  cool2.gif
*
If i dun want to be bothered by MegaDrive region lock, which iteration is the best?
MegaDrive "SKU" is really a "parade", there are X'eye, CDX, Mega Jet.... even a Aiwa Mega CD.

Hopefully to get a MD that could bypass region lock, and can support 32X & Mega CD,
Aiwa Mega CD, Mega Jet seems out of the question for this..

The region lock is software based, so you must use specific hardware from specific region to bypass the chip embedded carts. There's an ultimate solution to this (cost close to nothing) and that is adding a region switch to your console. You need to have good soldering skill to do this though. Would you be interested?
*
My soldering skill is zero.

You mean that the chip embedded carts are "hardcore" region locked? (Cannot be bypass)

You still need to do hardware mod to achieve that. You should look at Nintendo's SNES/SFC and N64, they had the best region lock in history.

Wii is the most hardcore Region Locked console this gen!

No, this gen belongs to 360. Modding still can bypass Wii's region coding, but still no solution for 360.

Too much of current gen talk, let's go back to RETRO! Have been spending time on PS1 RPGs lately, and finished Parasite Eve. Still can't decide which one to play next since most of them I haven't played before blush.gif
*
Did i told u this already?

I just got my Chrono Trigger for PSX, the loading is intolerable.....
The game even have some odd pause when switching between menu....
Oh man, but not as bad as Samurai Spirit RPG on Neo Geo CD la....

That shouldn't be a problem since you are playing the NDS version now smile.gif

Is it true that Neogeo CDZ is getting more expensive these days? Just had a quick browse and caught me by surprise hmm.gif
*
I followed the price pretty closely,
Neo Geo CDZ price fluctuated,
it will come down.

I am looking to get a back-up unit myself,
my current Neo Geo CDZ gila-gila a bit already.

No.
Will pay attention to it while browsing next time.

I do believe neogeo is owning a JP MD, so inserting cartridges from any region shouldn't be a problem.. unless mine is modified without my knowledge hmm.gif
*
Yes. Mine is a JPN MegaDrive, but i only have JPN games,
which is quite pricey compare to the US one.

That is why I am trying to bypass the troublesome Region Lock,
so i can save more on my collection.

Also thinking of adding a MEGA CD and 32X soon.

Buy the game (Battle Garegga), beat the game once (don't care how many credits) and watch the superplay and learn why this game is unversally recognized as the shmup with deepest mechanics. Every time you suicide, collect item, bombing and even how rapid you shoot affects the game difficulty nod.gif I'm still learning this game every time I play it.

Added on January 31, 2009, 7:06 pmI wonder how do you guys maintain your retro consoles hmm.gif Curious because that's what I'm doing right now
*
Dude i am quite new in retro gaming scene,
most of my console were the console i got back in those days.
Never maintain it at all.

What should i do to maintain it?

He just bought it recently I believe hmm.gif Still a newbie laugh.gif

Some shmups you shouldn't miss on Saturn shahreza:
1. Battle Garegga
2. Batsugun (ancestor)
3. Cotton 2
4. Cotton Boomerang
5. Thunder Force V
6. Layer Section
7. Shienryu

Those Strikers 1945 and DonPachis are better on PS1
*
Gundam, those are NOT CHEAP AT ALL.

I like Cotton 100% on SNES, but i checked price for 3 & 4,
forgot the figure but remember it is expensive.
